Warner - how short is is leash today? (1 Viewer)

He'll play the full game just to show the entire world how bad Warner really is and silencing in potetial questioning.

I can't see Green pulling Warner today unless it gets real ugly. I'm thinking he gives Warner enough rope and waits to see if he hangs himself.

I'm hoping for garbage time gold myself. My other options are Kitna and Smith. Ouch!

:(

I'm benching him for Marc Bulger versus the Lions, but I wouldn't rule out 300+ yards. Question is, can he get it into the endzone often, if at all, and can he keep the turnovers down?

He was on my bench as well until I read:

"Kurt Warner, QB, Arizona: I know he sees Matt Leinart closing fast in his rear-view mirror, but he might be able to hold him off another week. Why? Well, look at what he's done in six career starts against the Falcons: He's 6-0 and completed 69 percent of his passes for 1,657 yards with 18 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 126.3 passer rating."

I know this mean jack squat for today, but you can never underestimate any angle.

I'd start Warner over Blesdoe if not for the fear of a short leash. I just hope Warner hangs on for 1 more week so the guy who picked Leinart as his QB #2 in my league will have to spend some $ on the WW for week 5 =)

I'd say the leash is pretty damn short...

-- Leinart was Close to Starting Today --

Fox Sports' John Czarnecki reports for a 24-period, Arizona Cardinals HC Dennis Green wanted start first-round draft pick QB Matt Leinart over QB Kurt Warner this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. However, once the Falcons got whipped on Monday night football, there was no way he wanted Leinart to get his NFL debut in a hostile road stadium and before a truly upset Falcons' team. Now Warner, who has fumbled eight times and has five turnovers in his last two starts, can decide his own fate by having a great game. If Warner continues his fumbling act and it leads to another Arizona loss, look for Leinart to start next Sunday at home against the Chiefs.

This exact scenario was confirmed by Mort this morning... Green had made the switch on Monday, only to reverse his decision after seeing the Monday night game. Warner is supposedly on a very short leash today.

Dicisons, dicisions.

I'm keping him in my line-up today. With Edge calling for more of the ball I expect the Cards to agree.

I say they run the ball with vigor int he first half just to keep Warner's head in place & limit any mistakes from Warner. A few long ball throws just to keep the pass rush honest.

Warner has proven in the past that he can beat the Falcons pass protection and hopefully that will prevail today.

My other option is Walters from Oak. & being his first start and with the other problems Oak has had I will roll the dice with Kirk.

If Green made the decision to start Warner against the ANGRY Falcons then why would Warner have a short leash in this game unless they are down by 30 points at the half? Green's actions, to me, say that he doesn't want to expose (for lack of a better word) Leinart to a strong D on the road. I read this to mean it doesn't matter if it's the 1st quarter ot the 4th, he doesn't want to put the kid in against Atlanta on the road. Only time will tell.

I feel that Mortenson was just trying to wipe the egg off his face that he obtained by reporting that Leinart would start. It made him look pretty silly and cost him a lot of credibility. After reporting that Green made the switch on Monday, the only way to save save face is to tell people that Green changed his mind. I seem to recall a quote from Green saying that he talks about personel decisions on Tuesdays.I think Mortenson was trying to "get the scoop" and was just wrong.
