This comes down to the general theory on whether or not handcuffing a cheap backfield is a good idea. It's not unrealistic to expect RB3 numbers out of Portis/LJ, it's probably unrealistic to expect better than RB3. So, is it worth it to get RB3 from 5th and 8th round picks? Most people probably plan to fill their RB3 in round 4 or 5. You could open with something like Turner/Grant/Desean Jackson/Best. Solid team. Then in rounds 5 and 8 you could go BPA, and add something like Nicks and Michael Bush. I like this team a lot better than a team that requires me to use picks 5 and 8 on Portis and LJ. While it may seem "cheap", it's eating up two of your picks, and I'd rather just take a guy a round earlier who I can have reasonable faith in producing more points anyway. That said, Portis isn't a bad pick in round 5 or 6, nor is LJ a bad pick in round 8 or later. I just don't like the idea of handcuffing a backfield with two picks in the first 8-10 rounds. You won't see me with both Deangelo and Jstew, Felix/Barber, Jacobs/Bradshaw, Bush/McFadden, or Portis/LJ, unless incredible value presents itself. I don't think you give your team enough diversified firepower to win when you target one of these RBBC situations.
