Week 1 waiver wire pickups (1 Viewer)

I'm eyeing a decent-sized bid on Jacoby Jones in a league where return yardage counts quite favorably. Haven't decided how high I want to go.Will probably err on the side of caution given that he'd be looking at spot starts in the flex spot at best right now.I'm pretty well off at TE but I'm leaning towards dumping Kendricks for Fred Davis in my deep league (to back up Gronkowski). Not even giving any of the other TEs with big weeks (Dickson, Chandler, etc.) consideration.Dickson is handcuffed by Pitta. I need to see Chandler used in a non-blowout context. There are more guys to choose from in some shallower leagues I'll be hitting waivers on later in the week (i.e. Henderson). Not really keen on Cadillac but I suppose he'll have some value if SJax is out an extended time.Gibson should be owned in any 10+ team leagues if he isn't already.
Don't get your hopes up Davis isn't even the starter. He only started because Cooley was injured...

FWIW- Cooley started. Was obviously hurting some but Davis is too good to ignore. I wouldn't be surprised if they sit Cooley to rest a couple weeks. True "passing of the torch". Davis was incredible.

Nobody is going to mistake the Washington Redskins for the New England Patriots, but it seems pretty clear to me that the Redskins will be using 2-TE sets for a good portion of the game similar to what the Patriots do. So who actually starts the game at TE for Washington is pretty darn irrelevant. Fred Davis put in a very Gates-like performance on Sunday and his combination of size and speed makes an aging Cooley look like a limp smurf. A lot of TEs put up good numbers this weekend, but Fred Davis overall performance and opportunity going forward may very well make him among the better waiver wire pickups of the season.

How about DHB? He converted 4 of 7 targets for 44yds against a tough secondary. He also caught a 5th deep pass in coverage along the sidelines but his left foot was just out of bounds, had that pass been thrown 6" to the right he'd have been 5 - 80/90yds roughly and would have been firmly on everyone's radar.

Al Davis refuses to let him be a bust as he was in on a majority of the downs and he certainly has the speed and size of a top receiver....

Could people who saw the game comment more on this (I didn't see it)? Do we feel confident that Doucet will be targeted heavily on a consistent basis? Did he play in the slot or at the WR2? Are we confident now that he is the other WR in AZ to own or do we still have hopes for Roberts? Roberts only had two passes: did he just not get open?

Randall Cobb
I LOVE Cobb in Dynasty, and own him in dynasty, but I think he is fool gold in redraft. How often is he going to return a kick for a TD? And that receiving TD was a bit of a lark too--he didn't run the right route. Until there are some injuries, he is still going to be a deep option on that team THIS season. I guess if you have deep roster bench and want to pick him up for later in the season, it may make sense. Obviously, if one of the other guys gets hurt or if Cobb replaces one of the top three WRs later in the season, it will be difficult to get him then. But this week, in redraft, unless you get return yardage points, there are better options.

Agreed, would like feed back from someone who saw the game.Or a Carolina fan, tell us more about your defense in relation to Doucet's production :blackdot:

The guy got 3 catches on 3 targets and they were only on 3rd downs, I don't think you can really determine much from this outing since Roberts started and got 4 targets. Doucet just happened to have a wide open lane on one of them...

In a PPR league dexter mccluster. HE seems to be inline for 4-5 runs and 4-5 receptions a week. Had a 10 point week last week.

I would rather gamble on Todd Heap at TE before either Roberts/Doucet. You're not going to see fellow TE Jeff King catch too many more passes. JMO Beanie and Heap are going to have better years receiving the ball than people think with Kolb in his first year at QB here.Doucet TD (Carolina put no one on him) http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d82224fb8/Doucet-70-yard-TD

Thanks! I see what you mean:http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d82224fb8/Doucet-70-yard-TDHe benefits from the 5WR set and being the one WR who is left uncovered. He does avoid a tackle and have a great run, but I can see why we wouldn't want to conclude from this that he is second target in AZ or the better talent necessarily.

Gaffney. Anyone interested in him? Had a good day but could have been a huge day
 Fred Davis is the WW add there IMO.Wouldn't be shocked if he led the Skins in receiving yards. In a passing offense devoid of offensive playmakers, he's cementing a big role in that O.

I have Olsen at TE in my 14 man ppr league.

my Bench (all from draft):

J. Nelson

Sproles

(good to see your fliers become week 1 must have ww!)

Rice

Spiller

Kolb

Knowshon (sigh).

I would love to take a shot at a TE with upside, most likely would grab Davis, but who would you drop from that list?

I would lean towards Spiller or Rice, but losing Rice would leave me hurting at WR, not to mention that in PPR as a #1 he could have value, and there is always that chance Spiller breaks through.

Someone you can afford to sleep on, maybe but not too long is TE Kevin Boss. Is finally practicing after being out a few weeks. He might be ready this weekend at Buffalo. Oakland made a star out of Zach Miller (look at him now) and not the other way around. Boss could easily take on Zach Miller's old pass catching TE spot, plus is a better red zone target. He could be a sneaky pickup to stash and hold.

Cam Newton. I got him with the 6th position. So apparently no one else in my league thought too highly of him. Hopefully they are wrong.

I think I'm gonna let everyone else spend their FAAB dollars on these guys, as I don't think any of them are really integral to my hopes of a championship.

I've got $1 down on Ben Watson, Fred Davis, and Ed Dickson, in that order, and dropping Jared Cook. Not sure I'll actually get any of them, and I'm okay with that. Otherwise I'd probably bid more than $1. Pettigrew is my current TE, and is certainly starting this week against the Chiefs.

With Amendola hurt, if Brandon Gibson is out there, he should be rostered. He was on the field for the most pass routes last week and had 5 targets.

Just scooped Antonio Brown and Eric Decker to add some WR depth. Brown had 9 targets and Decker should be a good red zone target for a team that passes a lot. I do wish I could pick up Jeremichael Finley instead though.

In pretty deep leagues, so most of names are gone.

Looking into the likes of Doug Baldwin WR Sea, Scott Chandler TE Buf, David Nelson WR Buf and possibly Caddy.
What do we know about this cat? I know he also had a big pre-season game and was undrafted.
Watched him a lot in the preseason, the guy just plain stood out on the field. Well built, fast, tons of effort and a great attitude. Then he does this W1 (w/o Rice though). It's everything they thought Tate was and more it seems. But the team is a mess.

Fred Davis or Jermaine Gresham. Leaning towards Gresham as he doesn't have to compete for time like Davis does with Cooley and has a rookie QB so could be the beneficiary as the safety valve.
Let Cooley beat on the knee a little and wear down and by week 5 you have a Top 7 TE the rest of the way in. He's already proven he's got big skills and he's even more refined now. Shanny won't miss this one.

The PPR Top 200 Forward still has Roberts ranked ahead of Doucet by a bit. Roberts looked good apparently, but it was Doucet who broke a short pass. Both seem like pretty good grabs though, but wouldn't be surprised if Roberts ended up on top later on.

Few deeper non-sexy PPR names I still like, once we get passed the window dressing of Week 1.

Hartline- the guy gets no respect as even a WR5 it seems. Here's his ff ppr points in reverse order over the last few years or so (rounded down): 14, 11, 12, 14, 12, 13, 10, 8, 5, 13, 11, 13, 6, 12, 6, 14, 12.... As your WR3 or 4 in deep dynasty leagues, you'd take 10-15 points as a lock weekly.

Douglas

Crayton- see Hartline. He was in every week start mode as WR3-4 PPR last season with Rivers before he got injured. He's pretty good and very under the radar right now.

Parrish- see Crayton

Baldwin

Armstong

Chaz-needs a little time

MoMass

Snaps matter more to me than catches (in the short term ) - I am watching the shortcut (DTV) right now - and Roberts is in all the 2WR sets - to me that means he is the confirmed WR2, so I like his chances over Early going forward . . .

How many targets did Roberts have with his two catches? Did he have any drops? Bad game?

i think he had three targets and two catches - not enough of a sample to critique . . .
