Week 1 waiver wire stud (1 Viewer)

If I knew now, I'd just pick him up right now and he would no longer be a waiver wire pickup.
This is exactly what I thought of when I read this thread. But to play along, I guess you can say what guys do you kind of think may have a chance to do something that you just didn't draft.

First, the number of rounds and teams in your draft play a significant part in this discussion. Let's say it's a 12 team league, 18 rounds. You still have a little talent left in the waiver wire..maybe some wide receiver rookies or some old vets.

So, I guess my answer to start is a WR. Sometimes, an entire league can miss a wide receiver who didn't show much during the preseason.

Depending upon your league but it could be someone like a S. McDonald from the Lions. He's not going very high, decent player who's supposed to NOT get much action in this current offense. HOwever, if he catches a touchdown pass week 1, he'll be picked up.

Amani Toomer- Another Vet who could go undrafted. Who knows what's up with Buress, Toomer played well at the end of last year and looks decent this year. If he catches a TD week 1, he'll be picked up by someone.

Fasano at TE- He may be drafted but maybe not in some leauges that don't require you to carry two TE and it's only 18 rounds. If he gets some looks early on, I could see Fasano being picked up.
Not in my leagues. I have him in every league...

Obviously this is a guessing game and no pick at this point can be right or wrong. That being said, the last time David Boston scored 10 fantasy points in a game was in 2003. That was 65 games ago.

Michael Clayton is slightly better . . . he's had one 10 point week in the past three years (48 games).

Michael Gaines (TE-DET) will have 2 TDs in week one. Teams will scramble to pick him up and he won't score again the rest of the season. At least that's how the WW works in my 16 team, 20-man roster, NON-IDP league. (Everybody else is taken, except J.T. O'Sullivan, who would have to be my second choice in this category.)

I'm gonna go with Michael Pittman
the FB?
-- Pittman Willing to Do What it Takes to Help Team --Mon Aug 4, 2008 --from FFMastermind.comThe Denver Broncos' official website reports Broncos RB/FB Michael Pittman, who is listed as the third-team fullback, has taken more reps at the lead-blocking position in recent practices with a tight hamstring sidelining rookie FB Peyton Hillis (hamstring). After missing the last few days himself, Pittman returned to action on the field and again took quite a few reps at fullback. "Michael plays both at fullback and tailback," HC Mike Shanahan said. "He's a guy that can play both, very similar to RB/FB Mike Bell. Michael has a lot more experience at both positions, and he looked it today coming back from his hamstring." Pittman said that he is willing to do whatever necessary to help the team, something he has continued to say since joining the team as a free agent in May.

sure why not

Donnie Avery. Drew Bennett isn't a legit NFL WR.
Right idea wrong rookie Ram WRBurton
Yeah could be. From recent scrimmage Avery is out with that pelvic bone issue. Since the offense was limited to six plays at a time, the first touchdown had to wait until later in the practice. The Rams worked mostly situations instead of allowing a play to happen and then picking up from the spot where the play ended. So, it wasn’t until third-string quarterback competitor Bruce Gradkowski connected with Keenan Burton for a touchdown that the offense reached the end zone.- The only other touchdown of the day came from running back Lance Ball. Ball really has some juice and his low to the ground, one-cut style is a nice fit in this system. It’s a crowded backfield and it will be tough for Ball to land a roster spot but he could easily be a strong consideration for the practice squad or even an active spot if he can have a strong preseason.

Avery has a very strange injury. It's actually the top of his femur that has the fracture. They thought it was the pelvis but it's actually the femur according to Jim Thomas of the Post Dispatch. That being said, there is no reliable time table as to when he will be able to return to practice. And every day he misses the better prepared Burton will be for Opening day. The injury was first slated as a few days to a week, maybe two to heal. Now their saying it could be longer. Then again he could be back tomorrow...Like I said, a very strange injury...

bump

here are my guesses for standard, 8-12 team leagues. Obviously some of those guys won't be available in your league, but some will be

Josh Morgan

Desean Jackson

Antonio Bryant

Dustin Keller

Zach Miller

Burton - STL (not many catches, but possibly a nice TD)

M. Jenkins - ATL (should catch 5-8 w/ the attention Roddy will get)

M. Jones - JAX

B. Johnson - SF if not rostered in smaller leagues

someone out of Hurd, Austin, Stanback in DAL should emerge, but it will take a few weeks.

I mainly play in 14+ team leagues or deeper dynasty, so pickins are usually slim.

Seeing as I had to drop Drew Bennett and Laurent Robinson late this week to finally roster a K and Defense, one of those guys will go off crazy.

Or it will be Ronald Curry as I've got a waiver claim in on Meachum that should go through tomorrow. Will have to wait 'til Monday night to find out.

Going with

Darren Sproles

Pierre Thomas

Laurent Robinson

Devin Hester

Tavaris Jackson

Dante Rosario

Joe Flacco

Josh Morgan/Arnaz Battle

Dennis Northcutt

Put huge stock in Deshean Jackson. He will be the number one receiving option against a pitiful rams defense. Also, he will be returning punts and kicks against the worst special teams coverage in football. 14 Points in standard leagues.

QBs should be a hot pickup this week, for obvious reasons.

After Cassell, I'll throw out Kerry Collins name.

He can put up some number by throwing little outlets the Chris Johnson alone, and judging by some of the stuff on this thread, [pure speculation] there is a possibility that Young doesn't see the field again this year. [/pure speculation]
