Week 16 Stat Corrections (1 Viewer)

That stat correction for Jared Allen changed the result of the championship game in one of my leagues. Luckily both guys are taking it well. (commish was the one who went from winner to loser, so there DEFINITELY could have been some shady doings if he was so inclined).

Basically a $300 swing on that one sack change.

Good work Joe Summer. So at the end of the day, fair to say that the Walker situation is similar and Amendola's 2 / 5 yards should stand? (I just happened to randomly find the Walker fumble which had a separate stat correction within the play, but in a sense not related to what we are talking about with Amendola!)
Yes, it seems that the NFL's official policy is to deduct negative fumble yards from your receiving yards, while positive fumble yards do not count at all (unless you recover the fumble yourself).
Hey Joe, great job breaking it down for us. But this still doesn't make sense to me because Calvin Johnson in week 16 also lost the fumble and he didn't get charged -2 yards on his reception. Here is the play-by-play log.(Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short middle to C.Johnson to ATL 47 for 5 yards (J.Abraham). FUMBLES (J.Abraham), RECOVERED by ATL-R.McClain at ATL 45. R.McClain to DET 40 for 15 yards (M.Stafford). Penalty on DET-C.Johnson, Illegal Formation, declined.

C. Johnson had a total of 225 yards after counting those five yards before he fumbled otherwise the stats should've said 223 yards.

I think Delanie Walker case is the same... if you watch the video, he didn't really gain any yards.

This makes me believe, Danny Amendola should get credit for +3 yards... not -3 yards.

Many thanks to Joe Summer for helping to clarify this issue. I have now called off my pitchfork-wielding army that was ready to descend on NFL headquarters.   Seriously, though, this thread really sums up what makes FBG so great: incredible amounts of knowledge from the hive mind and dogged persistence on an issue that is esoteric to the point of being utterly meaningless. :PI would still quibble, however, with the NFL's method for recording such plays in the game log. If Amendola has a -3 yard catch, it should be listed that way, not as +3-and-you-do-the-math. The way they do it now just invites needless confusion.
Lol, I think you are right about Amendola getting screwed those 6 yards. I think someone who keeps track of the stats accidentally pushed the minus button instead of plus and they still don't know it yet. I went ahead and looked at Redman's fumble too in the last play (CIN VS PIT), he didn't get charged minus receiving yards after he lost the football either.

In this situation, Johnson actually fumbled the ball forward by 2 yards (from the Atlanta 47 to the Atlanta 45). Therefore, the extra 2 yards aren't credited to anyone. It's similar to the Marques Colston fumble discussed earlier in the thread.

Which stats are you looking at? The NFL.com play by play shows Redman with a 13-yard reception and a 22-yard reception, which was then fumbled backwards 3 yards:
(:03) (Shotgun) 7-B.Roethlisberger pass short left to 33-I.Redman to PIT 50 for 22 yards. FUMBLES, RECOVERED by CIN-23-T.Newman at PIT 47. 23-T.Newman to PIT 44 for 3 yards (66-D.DeCastro).
The box score shows Redman with 32 yards receiving, which must include the 3 negative yards from the fumble. Seems pretty consistent with what we've seen with Amendola and Delanie Walker.

You are absolutely correct. Calvin Johnson's fumble actually did go forward. So the whole thing with Amendola was not a mistake from the NFL
