Week 16 weather (1 Viewer)

The biggest thing is wind.

I know it’s against FF protocol, but I always carry 2 defenses and 2 kickers this time of the year. Hate to give K points away because they are kicking in a windy stadium.

The Cleveland game is the biggest one that affects me and it seems legit.

Windy with snow showers in the morning. High 13F. Winds SW at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of snow 50%. Snow accumulations less than one inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 50 mph.

Still several days out, but Chicago’s report now just says cold and windy. Estimated 10° and windy. Previous reports indicated heavy snow or rain. So for Buffalo or Chicago players, it shouldn’t be too bad kicking might be challenging with the wind.

The snow is hitting Friday there.

I’d actually prefer snow or rain vs wind for Allen too. Not that he’s benchable in any case. Can still get it on the ground

Agree with you on kickers. I stash one in a dome just in case. I’m praying for bad weather for any of my defenses.

Forecast for Saturday says cold & sunny.
I’m right across the lake from Chicago and will get hammered with lake effect snow. A good day to watch the suckers sitting outside,

Chicago, Cleveland, possibly NE look like wind problems.
Keeping my eye on Pittsburgh as well.

Daytime forecast is similar to Cleveland, 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mp but at night it's just 10-20 mph. With a few days to go seems like some margin for this to change a little.

As such for me right now I do think the weather this week is a big deal for some players in some games but I won't even be thinking of making any weather related calls until we at least get close enough for a good hourly forecast and then, at least for the Saturday games, I'll take it up to fairly close to the game to see if anything changes.

The Thursday Jax at Jets game is a game that I will already start looking at weather to impact decisions and that game just started getting into the hourly forecast zone but as of right now just enough to get into basically end of first quarter range. It's a fairly warm weather game but the nigh-time forecast right now is heavy rain with 15-25 MPH wind. So far the hourly forecast only covers about the first quarter and is just saying rain, not heavy, and 12 mph winds so not quite as bad but might forecast worse later in the game.

Some players in particular seem like they will just shrivel up in cold, rain or wind. Zach Wilson and Amari Cooper are two that come to mind.

I think the passing attacks in the Chi/Buff and Cle/NO games need to be downgraded

Yes, with the caveat that Fields is largely unaffected since his legs are his primary value.

I’m reluctantly shying away from Bass in the Buffalo game. Reminds me of the playoff game against the Ravens in 2020 where both him and Tucker missed a couple fgs. Too much risk. Hoping to add Jason Sanders who might have spent this morning on the beach for all I know.

Even in perfect weather CLE/NO should be downgraded

Going to be bitter cold in KC on Saturday.

-9 with the wind chill. Wind will be about 10mph from the north/northwest.

Pretty sure this is footage of the actual game being played in adverse weather conditions.

I'm nervous. We've all seen the magic he's worked with his legs this season, but in those conditions and with his 'weapons' there is no reason to leave anyone in center field except for third and very long's. It'd be one thing if they were facing a defense headed by a dummy, but this is a group that's routinely gotten home with 4 all season and adapted when they haven't. I think they're going to dare him to win with his arm to which I say...good luck.

Models have been unusually aligned on this thing for quite a while. I'm not too worried about Pittsburgh. The impactful winds subside over the 12-24 hours before kick, so we're looking at a breezy 10-15 degrees and a feels like below zero. Not fun in the stands, but like most of the other frigid games earlier in the day on the field impact should be minimal.

I'm more concerned about JAX/NYJ than the non NO/CLE and BUF/CHI games on Saturday. Heavy rain and impactful wind will hit between 8 pm and 4 am, but...when. I'll be checking in on that in 36 hours.

Yes that was back in the dark times. When Brady was still in NE.

You may be right about Coop, but these conditions are a whole lot bigger than him. I'll never forget the 3 game homestand in 2020 when we had biblicalesque storms (some hyperbole) sweep through in November at the specific time the Browns hosted games - with swaths of mild temps and sun in between of course.

Offenses scored a total of 69 points combined over those 3 games. The first one against the Raiders was played through sleet/rain (snowing by the end) in sustained winds around 30 mph with gusts around 50. At the time this was two of the better offenses in the league, it ended 16-6, and the two passing games combined for just 233 yards. The wind subsided enough in the last one to allow each passing game to (barely) top 200 yards and offenses combine for almost half of the points (30) scored over this 3 game stretch, but heavy rain impacted the game throughout. None of the scoring drives were over 50 yards amidst that slop though. The one in between? It involved the Watson-led Texans when the Browns 'coasted' to the easiest 10-7 win I've ever seen. The front that whipped through at scheduled kickoff was so vicious it delayed the start. Precip was nothing like the Raiders game, but the wind was worse. Passing games combined for just 295 passing yards and this was with temps above freezing.

Saturday's game is going to be worse than any of that. A lot worse. It's possible the wind will be more like the 2020 Raiders game than Texans by that time, but with temps in the single digits and the lake effect snow variable looming...unless there are D/ST scores that 32 total is too high. There's no way I'm starting anyone in either of these passing games regardless of alternatives - no hyperbole.

I’m with you. The ball will be rock hard, there may be some fumbles in these games

Weather is usually overblown. But maybe not this week. What changes are you looking to make to your lineup due to potential weather?

I saw something about this on ESPN this morning... about 6 games that will see single digits and very high winds.

At the very least I am dropping my PK Daniel Carlson... single digits in PIT this weekend. Picking up a domer.

Makes benching Deshaun Watson a very easy call.

Nervous about any player with nagging injuries... weather that cold makes it difficult to stay loose... warm... yes, I am looking at you Kenneth Walker III @ KCC.

He’s at home, and he just rushed for almost 100 yards against the Eagles.

And Miami just ran all over BUF.

Ain’t nobody benching Fields for this.

I made sure kickers on both my teams are in a dome (Gano and Joseph). I am benching DPJ & Njoku (for not great options). I am probably starting CLE defense. No other changes.

Nervous about Lawrence at Jets due to weather but no better options (Carr at Pitt, also terrible weather) so hoping for the best, that the heavy rain doesn’t come until late in the game or just afterwards.

Yeah, I added Chase Mcgloughlin. No way I’m sending a K out in rain, snow and/or high wind

I checked the hourly forecast for this last night and it's actually not that bad. Will be a steady rain with winds in the 13-15 MPH range.

That's not great either but key with the rain is it's not supposed to be heavy. I actually looked this up last night when I saw the hourly forecast for rain and for almost the entire game the rain does not even meet the threshold for what would be termed "moderate", which is .10-.30 inches per hour. Most of the game is currently forecast to be in the .06-.10 range.

That decision may be the right one regardless, but this game vs those 2 are apples & oranges.

I picked up Cleveland defense as I could see the Saints having a world of trouble in wind and single digit temps.
I just worry with the passing game likely taking a big hit, there won't be many opportunities for sacks and INTs. Sure, you can hope for low points given up, but there won't be many other opportunities for defensive points if there isn't much passing.

As far as averages are concerned the weather app at this point is generally accurate for a given area...but not specific locations. Think Buffalo last week - the stadium ended up being fine for 3+ quarters because the band organized a few miles north, but we didn't know that until the day of. If that band lined up over Orchard Park no one would have been happy about starting anyone in those passing games! With this system pockets within it are expected to be heavy, which is why it'll be important to check-in pre-game if you're able. Conditions may end up being inconsequential like Buffalo last week though.

On days when the wind chill falls below 0, do you think about moving to a warmer place, like FL, TX, or AZ?
Nope. I'd rather have my nice conditions during times of year when we have 14-15 hours of day light instead of 8-9. When our kids are older we'll just vacation more in February.
