Week 17: Who Sits? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
please refrain from dissing those who have championship games in Week 17. everyone's league has different rules. TIA.

post inside info, beat writer updates, or any info regarding fantasy stars who might sit because they have nothing to play for in real football.

The Texans seem most likely to rest players. They can't improve their seed and don't have a bye.

The Packers have a bye but are in the same position otherwise. Rodgers has all but said Flynn's going to get major reps in week 17.

Falcons seem likely to pull players early. They're on the road and could use the bye week, and they have a good chance of beating the Buccaneers with their backups (if they care about seeding).

The Saints might pull players if it looks like the Rams won't pull off the upset (plenty of scoreboard-watching this weekend).

The Patriots get HFA with a win. The 49ers get a bye with a win, as do the Ravens. The Steelers play at the same time as the Ravens and could capture the division and much-needed bye if things go their way, too.

:blackdot:

Will Andre Johnson get some reps to knock the rust off?

Lots of interesting choices to make like Brees vs Alex smith.

The one I'm most curious about is Megatron. The Lions have a playoff game locked up, but if they win they guarantee they won't have to go to NO/SF week one. I'd rather take my chances against the Giants in the Meadowlands than the Saints in the dome.

Judging from what we've seen out of both SF and STL this season, I doubt the niners are blowing them out at halftime. SF/Saints starters play 3 quarters minimum IMO.

Packers likely play it smart and play Rogers a quarter or just a series (if at all). Finley shouldn't see much action either. Even the Packers D should be totally vanilla.

Texans are the one team I see dumb enough to play their starters the full game, even though they have a playoff spot AND seed locked up. Look for Foster to get a Peterson type injury in the third quarter, spawning a gajillion "Why was he even in the game at that point" threads here in the pool.

Packers and Texans are the only teams with nothing to play for and the Texans especially with a game a week later and the 3 seed locked up would be crazy to put any starters out there.

All the other guys are iffy. Pretty much any playoff team has players that could get rested in 2nd half of games if things don't go their way.

Detroit and Atlanta are going to want to avoid the first round game with New Orleans.

The Saints will play all starters, although in the 2nd half if the 49ers are destroying the Rams, the Saints could start benching players.

Pretty much if they aren't on the Packers or Texans, they should be played, I would think.

Falcons are pretty healthy. I'd think that the Falcons will start the game going all out to win, as they don't want to go back to New Orleans. Also, the Falcons can't worry about injuries. They will get crushed in New Orleans if they can't fix their offensive problems. They need to play and play well to gain some confidence heading into New Orleans.

The Falcons will know by gametime if they can avoid the Saints in the first round as Detroit will have already played GB. If Detroit wins, Atlanta has nothing to play for. They will be the 6th seed.

If Detroit wins, I would expect Turner to sit and Ryan and White to play one quarter for the home town, imo.Atlanta would have just played New Orleans so it is not like beating up on Tampa Bay is going to be useful preparation, not to mention risk of injury.

Thanks for that. I didn't realize they played a later game. Yep, so Atlanta is definitely a risk to sit players if they get locked into the 6 seed.

Roddy White, Julio Jones? When Detroit wins, Atlanta's game is meaningless. Wouldn't make sense to risk injury for the main Atlanta players.

I agree, but I think Roddy White has a good chance at getting four quick receptions in the first half to get him to 100 for the season. Less likely to be pursued is the 117 yards Julio Jones is shy of 1000 for the season.

Really? The Saints have just as much to play for as SF.
Yes, they do. If things play out like the Saints did last year, the starters play into the 4th quarter. Tom Brady's only 190 passing yards behind Drew Brees, and Sean Payton isn't about to let Brees' passing record get broken by Brady.
