Week 2 IDP surprises and potential FA pickups (1 Viewer)

As I mentioned in last weeks thead, its time to start taking Sean Considine's play seriously. That pass D sucks and he once again put up #'s. Finished 2nd on the team in tackles. Scored about 11-16 pts in all my IDP leagues. He earned a starting spot for teams next week.

How about James Harrison's huge day? Definitely led to a W in one league

Cameron Wake is on pace for 24 sacks, we didn't truly know his role at the beginning of the year. But now we know he's playing the Elvis Dummervil role in the Mike Nolan defense and is a every down LB.

Daryl Smith put up yet another solid performance. He's the top scoring IDP free agent in my league. Is this guy fool's gold who's numbers will come back down to earth? considering he plays on the strong side and the general rule of thumb is that strong side LB's don't generally put up big numbers. So is he for real? Anyone watching the Jags play? LOL, just kidding. Noone watches the Jags!

Watch the Jags here and there. But that D is just so bad that some on their D will rack up the pts. That unit is always on the field since that offense has just been average at best thus far. I have kept my eye on him as well. But have not made a move since my LB's are pretty solid

Im kinda happy Sean is doin pretty good (kinda local hero so to speak)

Im personally lookin at T. J. Ward. Im havin trouble deciding whether to just cut R. McClain. Id like to have the player w more big play upside (might be too early)

Are you from Byron, IL? Because I am and saw some of his high school games

nope I read about him in Rockford register star quite a few times
got ya, hes a big thing around town. in the offseason, u can always find him in the gym pumping iron. but the rockford area, has had a few big names. carlos polk was a special teams star with sd. stillmans guy bucky babcock had some tryout and was in camp but i dont think he ever got in a real gm. then u have some good players from niu with michael turner, mccariens, indy's olinemen diem

Did you know they have/had a hot sauce named after Turner the Burner?

love listenin to NIU games on radio btw havnt caught one in awhile though

i did not but i would imagine they would have something for that guy. hes their only true star in the league. i try to catch a few gms of niu on tv. that school pumps out good rb's like no1's business. wolfe, now a special teams player for the bears, was sick in niu. i still remember that gm he lit up ohio state by himself. that was nasty

What about James Anderson? He is also a strong-side starter, but he has put up two strong games in a row now as well. Think he is for real?

I believe Anderson is worth rostering. I believe he was mentioned in the last roundtable or the thread about the RT. one game you watch, two you know, four you score It might be hard to land em @ 4th game though. I actually was checkin bye weeks etc. last season when the guy I was lookin to snag was picked up (but I think I did pretty good w the 2nd guy I was watchin) I believe the guy I was gonna get was injuried a few wks later anyway...

I would research the RoundTable before deciding anything (lots of good info) I can tell you I havnt made any changes yet. fwiw

english was another stud for niu. but on the defensive side. no one could contain that guy in college. but he was tearing up the mac. not sure that is too much to be ecstatic about. i still have faith but i see some ppl are labeling him a bust already. for some reason sd loves guys from niu, first turner and now english

but english is starting now with no merriman. he needs to show something or he will be a situational player here soon. i still think he should be a dlinemen. he is best when he is rushing the passer. i see some derrick burgess in that guy

as long as he keeps starting then sure. but i mean he is filling in for thomas davis. who should return by week 8. so keep an eye on that. otherwise, ride out the hot streak. since carolina's offense sucks that defense has spent too much time on the field. allowing guys like anderson to rack up the stats. anderson was decent last yr in racking up the tackles

considering that he tore his ACL I'd love some conformation on that
i just read an espn report stating he is on the pup list. and read some info he was on pup instead of ir since they thought he had a good shot to return THIS seasonhere it is: Blogs.Charlotte.com: Even though Panthers LB Thomas Davis just suffered a second torn ACL in less than a year, the Panthers aren’t prepared to place him on injured reserve any time soon. Sources with knowledge of the situation said that at least some small degree of hope for a return this yearm was expressed upon the second opinion by Dr. James Andrews. At the same time, such a return would be extremely unlikely, and isn’t expected.

Frankly, there’s no use not holding out hope, no matter how small. If he could get back in six months, it’s worth placing him on the active-physically unable to perform list, which would make him roster-exempt for up to the first nine weeks of the season.

Is Babin worth a roster spot? Or is Hayes going to eat into his numbers when he gets healthy? TIA.
Babin has been a real nice surprise but Hayes will be back and Morgan will start to get more snaps soon. The Titans system uses a heavy rotation on the DL which makes it tough to predict who is going to have the numbers.

Just coming in to ask about him since Michael Johnson isn't exactly panning out.

I expect Johnson to pan out huge when he takes over as the starting SLB once Maualuga moves to the middle. He's probably barely getting snaps playing behind Maualuga at present. I'd say that the promising pass-rusher is a hold for next year... Maualuga as well, of course.

If Jason Allen can keep that job he might be a real surprise. He has a lot of athletic ability and is a physical player - previously a safety. He certianly made a case last week to remain the starter. Big stats through two games.

any fa dlinemen that ppl like? i put in a waiver on babin since hes had 2 nice weeks in a row. but also keeping an eye of juqua parker. not sure if i still want to run with corey williams

some random thoughts on a few idp's for week 2. i tried to tune in too as many gms as possible. flipped from 1 gm to another. and redzone channel helped in this as well. welp, here they go.....

rocky mcintosh looks like the real deal. lost posluszny so i rolled the dice with him over connor and it worked miracles. rocky went to the u so he has some clue on how to play. i have like him for a few years now and even at school. seems really athletic to me and should be be underrated the whole year. i like him as a low end lb 2.

brian dawkins rose from the dead after a quiet week 1. still has something left in the tank

freeney and mathis still make up 2 of the best pass rushing tandems in the league. and to think indy draft that kid hughes high who was a solid pass rush dend in college.

pitt's lb's will always be valuable in your lgs. but predicting which one will breakout is difficult. last week, it was james harrison.

roman harper is a very underrated safety in this lg. 2 solid weeks in a row.

kiwanuka is another personal favorite of mine. he can line up to rush the pass and play some lb. still think hes better suited rushing the passer

this kid suh is the real deal. a force to be reckoned with. and will be huge in turning around that lions d. already has a sack in each of his first 2 gms

i just looked at the top lb's in my idp lg. surprise, the top scorer is a fa in clay matthews. timmons is also a fa and in the top 3 in terms of lb

greg toler continued from where he left off from week 1. i do like this guy this year since teams will try to avoid cromartie's side as much as possible. im buying for sure

but when are Hayes and Morgan expected to be back? Is Babin good for another week or 2... yes, I'm too lazy to lookup Hayes and Morgan

morgan is already back. and has played the first 2 gms of the season.....

hayes was questionable last week n didnt play. believe he has sprained acl. doubt he plays but of course keep an eye on it

just a few other dlinemen added to my watch list: tim crowder, ngata, and pouha (jets dt who replaced jenkins)

i found some info on belcher on a chiefs fan site. some of it is good and some not so good. in summary, sounds like he can play just a bit small and there were questions regarding the competition he played against in college. but he tore that league up

more info:http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2009/5/12/872835/chiefs-udfa-lb-jovan-belcher

"Due to its remote location and lack of high-class facilities, UMaine is at a recruiting disadvantage, unlike most of the southern schools. Most top players in the Northeast don't even consider the Orono campus as an option, so coach Jack Cosgrove and his staff are faced with finding players who get overlooked, with Belcher being a prime example.

Belcher's speciality if you will is his pass rushing ability. He's quick and goes all out on every play. NFL Draft Countdown breaks him down some more:

Strengths: Good athleticism...More quick than fast with a burst...Real tough and physical...Powerful tackler...Excellent pass rusher...Durable...Team leader...Versatile...Good work ethic...Has nice special teams potential.

Weaknesses: 'Tweener who may not have a true position...Did not play against top competition...Poor timed speed...Stiff...Too aggressive at times...Raw coverage skills...Still needs to get stronger...Questionable awareness.

If you really want to get into Belcher's measureables, check out these clips of his workouts during his pro day.

Heading in to his senior season last year, Belcher was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan award (He came in second in the voting), named after the great Chief and given to the best defensive player in Division I-AA (Now the FCS). Yale LB Bobby Abare, who was at the Chiefs' rookie mini-camp this past weekend, was also a finalist for the award. DE Jared Allen won the award in 2003 while at Idaho St."

:goodposting: Thank you for this.

I believe Im in agrement with you. Ive spent time tryin to read about Wake, I missed out on Elvis last season. I like Wimbley too, but I dont like the schedule as much. I really like this post (lot of good info)

Big Fins fan here, Wake was supposed to be a big thing when they signed him from the CFL. Never really did much but I do agree than Nolan should get some credit for knowing how to use him. I know he excels at pass rushing but coverage is a different story. All of those LB's are pretty young since they started the youth movement there and parted first with Zach and now Jason Taylor. That Koa guy even seems like he could be good. I really liked what I saw from this whole defensive unit vs the VikesGood article from teh Miami Herald regarding Wake today. http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/09/22/1835...on-defense.html

How good are you against the run?

``Hopefully, I'm getting better,'' Wake said. ``I like to think I'm an all-around linebacker, as much as I can be. I have the skill set I was given and I try to work hard to improve those things.''

Wake could point out that the holding penalty he has drawn in the first two games came as he set the edge on a running play. Or, that he has two tackles for loss to go with his 2.5 sacks.

``People talk about pass rushing, pass rushing,'' Wake said. ``Up until recently, I wasn't really asked to do much more. `Can you do this, can you do that? I don't know, let's see.' Nobody really asked me to do it up until now.

``Every time I get on the field, be better at what that situation is -- special teams, pass coverage. You want to be an all-around [player]. Being asked to do that is a challenge and I love it and I'm accepting it.''

Still, it's his pass rushing that pays the rent and off which he creates the most havoc, such as the strip of Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre that fellow outside linebacker Koa Misi recovered for a touchdown Sunday. Wake is listed at 6-3, 250, but without the long limbs of the basketball player he longed to be as a child. What that medium cut build allows him to do, though, is get around the edge low with speed and quickness.

Hey Underdogger, I just noticed the post about Timmons on the WW ( I would trully consider pickin him up).

I picked up LaRan Landry (guy dropped him maybe for the wrist inj report) but its big play so usually someone on the wire still this early in season..

Im still liking TJ and Wake (didnt like the matchup for Wake) Wimbley is off my target list. I added Eagles Nate Allen but not in lineup this wk (SF wk 5 though)<-- I might be tryn too hard to compensate for my error in judgement on rookie McClain(McClain also on my BN, bet he goes off now)

WK 4 is almost here, any changes to list of potential FA pickups??

btw Chad Spann MAC player of the WK, starting to bring it! Ward sounds like sumpn special :lmao: (freshman)
