Outta all those I like Cowboys versus SF.San Fran scored two tds off of special teams. If the Cowboys defense plays like it did versus the Jets they should be benching Alex Smith by Week 3.How do you rank these?Browns in IndyTexans in MiamiRedskins @ home vs. CardsBills @ home vs. RaidersBroncos at home vs. BengalsCowboys in SFBucs in Minnesota
I have Indy going 3-13 or 4-12 without Manning...Cleveland is one of those wins.I'm going Dallas @ SF.Any insight on the Browns? I thought they would perform better against Cincy, but Indy looks even tastier. They are at home though and Collins gets another week to study the playbook.
Gotta like the Bills considering the Raiders are traveling to the east coast and they kept Charles in check. Also, Cassel is a good hit to the ribs from being out of the game. Of course, that could help the Chiefs the way he started last week. Similar issue for the Skins as a nice option with Zona coming east and they did a good job of handling the Giants O. The Giants have more weapons than the Cards. The worry is the Skins offense putting their defense in bad situations because I'm waiting for Grossman and Hightower to turn the ball over. Between the two I lean towards the Bills.Redskins and Bills should get their chances. Not sold on Kolb and Jason Campbell just stinks
Is the talent level really there on Bills D? Havent watched a Bills game in about 15 years.Thoughts on MIN vs TB? Several pieces of talent are there: Marcel Dareus and Kyle Williams up the middle make a huge difference. The only time the Chiefs got positive yardage on running plays is when they went out wide. I suspect that they have a good enough D-Line to get pressure on the QB, but they really need Shawne Merriman the get/stay healthy to get some big plays out of the D. Just two years ago the Bills were at the top of the league for interceptions, last year it dropped off drastically. I like the matchup this week, and I think they could be a sneaky good fantasy defense going forward when they aren't playing the Patriots, Chargers, Cowboys, and Eagles. Is the talent level really there on Bills D? I started Cleveland last week as well, hoping for a turnover or two. Cleveland also has a nice schedule for the first eight weeks or so, so I was hoping they might turn into an every week starter.Unfortunately, I'm starting to think I discounted their new defensive scheme and new DC, **** Jauron, too easily. Switching from a 3-4, under Rob Ryan last year, to a 4-3 under Jauron, means a fair amount of change for a relatively young defense. Additionally, Jauron, IIRC while the head coach of the Bears, ran a very "bend, don't break" 4-3 scheme that did not produce a lot of turnovers. I'm starting to think that Cleveland is not going to produce enough turnovers, at least early in the season, to be a reliable start. I will probably be dropping them this week, but will keep an eye out to see if they improve later in the season.I didn't watch Cleveland but did they look good on defense? The TD they gave up to Green was atrocious but not the kind of thing you'd expect to see much, indeed Green was locked down all game except for that quick snap.I started Cleveland last week and was mildly disappointed but may ride them again.
Hillis is gonna grind them into the turf (main reason Addai on my bench in what seems a good matchup). I think Seattle, as long as the game were in Indy, is the only team I'd use Indy DST against. What about doing the reverse and taking the Colts at home against the Browns? It's a respect night for the Colts and I got to figure man for man they are still better than the Browns.
They are available in a couple of my leagues.Another one to add maybe the Lions at home against the Chiefs. I'm starting to think that trumps the Browns or Cowboys matchup.
They could be a decent play against Miami. Could significantly generate more pass rush than the Pats did. They have an awfully juicy schedule weeks 14-16.What do you guys think about the Houston defense for the remainder of the year?
Pretty sure NO was one of the top 10 defenses in pre-season, so they aren't really a WW defense. This thread is more about the "bad" non-rostered defenses you might pick up for a week. I have the NE defense in one league and I don't like their matchup with SD. My only problem is that I don't really like any of the WW defenses in that league as none of the available teams that have showed any potential play bad offenses. The Bills already got picked up and of the folks in the OP, you could almost do a coin flip as to which team could show up and win.How come nobody is mentioning NO def vs CHI? Home opener in a loud dome vs the sieve-like offensive line and mistake prone QB?
I currently have NE and Arizona as my D's and considered dropping Zona for Washington but I may just stand pat and start NE this week. SD is traveling east...and the SD offense didnt look dominate Minny like I thought they would...also add in that NE could very well return a KO or punt and I'm going with them.I dont want to split hairs with this move...I think NE can score just as many, if not more, then a lot of the defenses mentioned in this thread. What are your guy's thoughts on NE this week vs SD? I was all but prepared to drop someone and pick up either Buffalo or Washington for this week when I noticed that in the preliminary rankings Dodds has NE ranked.. well, let's just say very very high. I realize SD gets off to slow starts and the game is in NE, but still, it's San Diego. New England wasn't all that impressive against Chad Henne and co.
gradkowski is a really bad nfl qb. he throws more picks than tds, fumbles a lot and gets sacked a lot. he has a very bad completion percentage and awful yards per pass metrics.I don't see why Gradkowski makes Denver any more attractive, in fact it makes them less attractive.
I picked up Buffalo this week to supplant Arizona.Gotta like the Bills considering the Raiders are traveling to the east coast and they kept Charles in check. I have NE on one team with a short roster, so picking up a WW defense would be hard. I agree that they have just as good a chance at scoring points as any of the real WW defenses mentioned above. I plan to just see what they do.'Bigboy10182000 said:I currently have NE and Arizona as my D's and considered dropping Zona for Washington but I may just stand pat and start NE this week. To me lions @home overwhelming KC offensive line is play of the week. They are available in a couple of my leagues.Another one to add maybe the Lions at home against the Chiefs. I'm starting to think that trumps the Browns or Cowboys matchup.![]()
Good luck with that. Raiders OL and DL are playing great right now. Buffalo was the 32nd ranked Defense from last year. What are their key additions? Marcus Dareus, Merriman, Morrison? Really? What are you expecting? Some sort of Bills domination? The bills defense allowed 6.2 ypc to the Chiefs in a game they dominated. What do you think the Raiders do to that line? The Raiders D got 5 sacks, 6 hurries, and an INT. Their front seven is going to suffocate the Bills runners. They are the #1 rush defense, giving up just 38 yards last week. Campbell sucks? Maybe so, but maybe the coaching staff said, why bother passing when we can run it down their throats, (which they did). Why not kill the clock and salt the game away? The Bills DST waiver wire crowd is going off of media bias that the Raiders suck so play the opposing D against them. Not very clear analysis imo. again good luck with your Buffalo DST.Going w bills. Raiders play on short week, traveling to east coast, Campbell sucks.
THIS is the playoff defense to have. They could be a decent play against Miami. Could significantly generate more pass rush than the Pats did. They have an awfully juicy schedule weeks 14-16.What do you guys think about the Houston defense for the remainder of the year?
Houston could potentially be a solid defense this year, even converting to a 3-4. From what I understand, while Wade Phillips isn't a very good head coach, he is a very good defensive coordinator for the 3-4. The schedule starting Week 5 is:Wk 5 - OAKWk 6 - @ BALWk 7 - @ TENWk 8 - JACWk 9 - CLEWk 10 - @ TAMWk 11 - BYEWk 12 - @ JACWk 13 - ATLWk 14 - @ CINWk 15 - CARWk 16 - @ INDGames against Baltimore and Atlanta aren't great, and Tampa Bay and Oakland (if they have continued success running the ball) could be difficult. The rest of the games look like solid match-ups.The issue is really Weeks 3 and 4 - at New Orleans and home against Pittsburgh. I wouldn't be comfortable starting the Texans defense in either game. If you have a roster spot, you could pick up the Texans and hold them until Week 5, but I don't know if tying up a roster spot with a second DEF early in the year is the best idea. Maybe people would be scared off by the Week 3 and 4 games and they may still be available? Anyone else with additional thoughts? What do you guys think about the Houston defense for the remainder of the year?
