Week 4 Waiver Wire Defense (1 Viewer)

The Giants @ Philly might be good. I think the Eagles are the #1 matchup for opposing defenses right now. Obviously, the Cardinals vs. the Dolphins if they aren't already scooped up.

I can't imagine a league where Seattle and the Giants defense are not rostered.
You can't imagine such a league? In a 12 team league with 5 bench spots, you don't see how only 12 defenses will or might be rostered per week? The Giants defense was good last week, but terrible the first two weeks. They were dropped before the Carolina game. Even with the Carolina, they are the 19th best defense in the league in total points YTD.

I wouldn't do it, but I could see someone dropping the Seahawks before the Packers game, thinking it's a tough matchup.

Well, obvious ones would be Seattle if someone dropped them because of the GB matchup, or Zona if nobody grabbed them yet.

A little more likely options are ATL, MIA, TB, and CIN.

I think a sneaky play is the Rams defense against Seattle in St Louis. A 1 week play but Seattle's offense is not very good and St Louis defense is pretty stout when it has had to be. Could be good for a couple turnovers and some sacks. Points a gonna vary but I see about a 17-13 win for Seattle so not too bad. I think a solid 10-16 pt performance from them (depending on your scoring) is not out of the question.

And if they're still out there, the Giants D vs the Eagles. Just too many turnovers and sacks allowed. the O-line is atrocious. I do think they'll score some points this week but TO's and sacks will be there.

Is Cincinnati really a good enough defense to play this weekend? Even if it is against Jacsonville Brats?

Just looking real quick at yahoo's ownership % on defenses.

Arizona 47%

Atlanta 31%

Tampa Bay 6%

Buffalo 51%

Cleveland 16%

Dallas 36%

Minnesota 6%

San Diego 8%

St Louis 3%

Miami 7%

Denver 21%

Washington 8%

Indy 4%

That's all the ones around 50% of lower. I also noticed that SF's Defense is ranked 4th worst among all Fanatasy defenses so far. Now a lot of that is a product of the offenses they've played but it only hammers home the point to not draft a defense until the second to the last round. People were taking them as high as the 6th round!

Stud fantasy defenses change every year. Streaming defense is a much better strategy until you can find out who the defenses to own really are for the new year.

Yup... I am 1 of those who dropped NYG Def before the Panthers game... only to pick up Arizona!

12 Teams - 11 Starters with 18 roster spots. Most franchises have 1. I also have Buffalo.

14 Def are rostered. Seattle and NYG are both available.

You must play deep benches leagues. 12 team leagues with 5 bench players could certainly have one or both of these teams available. I play in 6 money leagues and almost every one has the Giants D available.

AZ should def be owned and played this game and the rest

Cowboys have a decent match but are on bye next week

Atlanta has been solid and consistent for 3 weeks and have a schedule like this: Car @Was Oak Bye @Phi

they should be solid for the rest of the year imo

STL hosts Kolb/Skelton and ARI next week also....might be worth a shot. At home they get a good pass rush and have some ball skills in the secondary. The downside is a special teams TD is nearly impossible for them.

and MIA in week 6 i believe...

Giants.

In one league, Philly has given up 21 to Cleveland, 10 to Baltimore, and 26 to AZ. Yes, those are or can be three good defenses, and the Giants are away, but I'm liking the Giants here.

Three games, 6 lost fumbles, 9 sacks, 6 INTs by Philly.

Next best is SD vs KC. You have to realize the Saints (!) were holding KC to 6 points for 3 quarters, with sacks, turnovers, and as many as 2 possible DST scores called back by the ref's, one of which was a very bad replacement ref blown call and the other a return INT that went out around the 10 but could have gone all the way. It took another horrendously blown call on what was basically a missed hold/tackle that made Charles' 91 yard run possible, otherwise it was all field goals, no sustained TD drives.

KC was similarly bad against Atlanta and Buffalo. They also are playing at home but should still be in for some poor offensive play.

Time to drop Jets D/ST?
Interested to hear thoughts on this as well - Revis injury does a ton to lower expectations for me. Would need to drop them to run with Dallas or SD - best options available at the moment.

According to FFToolbox, after three weeks:

BEST OFFENSIVE MATCHUPS for D/ST:

PHI STL GB CIN KC CAR DAL CLE DET CHI

WORST matchups for D/ST:

ATL BAL NYG SEA IND NYJ MIN OAK ARI HOU

Based on that, you might like DAL (at home) this week vs. CHI.

But careful about the JAX and ARI offense assumptions. You would think they would be great matchups for DST, but they do not commit alot of turnovers. With Jax, maybe not alot of points/yards, but not alot of mistakes. Same with MIA and OAK.

Who do you like between DET and DAL, and even ATL this week even though they think its a bad matchup.

This will be a bit of a homer take, but the Bengals could end up being a pretty solid play. Not great, but a decent option. The return of Carlos Dunlap at DE last week vs. the Redskins was huge. The Bengals were able to get a ton of pressure and played good D for the most part. In the 1st half, the Bengals D shut out the Redskins offense until a last second FG (24-10 at half, with Wash scoring a defensive TD). In the 2nd half, the Redskins came out in a pistol offense running some crazy option plays that gave the D a lot of trouble and led to a TD. Other than that, they were pretty stout until they started playing prevent up 14 with 6 minutes left.Against Gabbert, they have a good chance of keeping the Jags offense in check, though MJD should get his. Last I saw, Vegas had Jacksonville's O/U at 19.5 points, so obviously the experts don't think its going to be real high scoring. Should be a lower scoring game with pretty conservative, run heavy gameplans by both teams. Dunlap is the Bengals best D player (imo) and changes the entire dynamic of the defense due to the pressure he is able to bring off of the edge right in the QBs face.

I'm liking Atlanta's D vs Carolina this week.
That's not a waiver wire defense anymore. I'd suggest after the way the shutdown both Denver and San Diego, they should have been picked up by now.Obviously if you seem them available, by all means pick em up. I'm just thinking if you have astute people in your league, they'll not be available on waivers anymore.

I dropped them for the Giants, FWIW.
Ditto. Even bid 10% to get the Giants D. Look at the upcoming schedule. Also attempting to drop NYJ defense in another leauge for: SEA, CIN, and the Vikings. Not sure why the Vikings are so overlooked for the upcoming weeks.Revis is just too big a blow to that D.
