I'm not generally one to vent, and ultimately I'm pretty calm whether I'm winning or losing fantasy leagues.
But, I do feel like I'm having probably the worst season in almost 20 years of playing some kind of fantasy football. My longest standing league I now sit at 1-6, and in my second longest league I'm now 3-4 after starting 3-0. And in the league I formed with neighbors this year (the one where half the guys have never played fantasy before), I'm now 2-5 and lost Stafford (maybe), Santana Moss and Run DMC this week.
It's easy for me to see where it's gone wrong. Injuries have played a part, for sure, but it's not all that.
As I reflect back on my drafts, the guys I targeted just haven't worked out for the most part.
*** I grabbed Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles with my 1st round picks any chance I got
*** I grabbed either Hillis or Mendenhall in many leagues in the 2nd or 3rd (where I felt like I was fleecing people)
*** I took Mark Ingram in nearly every league
*** I targeted Santonio Holmes, Brandon Lloyd and Vincent Jackson as key WR adds
*** I focused on Percy Harvin, Santana Moss and Mario Manningham as "value" WR2 adds
*** In spite of valuing the TE position this year, I seemingly fell into grabbing Owen Daniels and/or another 2nd tier guy instead of the top dogs
Ultimately what I'm saying is, this year has just been a cascade of poor decisions, and sometimes it's worse to have guys like Chris Johnson and Mark Ingram on your roster than guys like J. Charles. At least with Charles there's no uncertainty, you cut the cord and do your best to add help to your roster. With CJ2K, Hillis, Mendy and Ingram, they've been in my lineup more times than not and I keep justifying that THIS is the week they'll turn it around.
