Week 8 Waiver Wire (1 Viewer)

I think he was mentioned before but I will reiterate that I think J.J. Nelson, AZ is a great play if you need an extra WR/Flex play this week because of byes or injuries - Floyd dropped some key balls on Sunday and Jaron Brown is now on IR. Add John "Smoky" Brown dealing with sickle cell trait issues (making his legs hurt and hard to keep him rested and hydrated) and the matchup with Palmer and the Cardinals facing a poor Panther secondary.

Film Review for some of the interesting the WW picks:

RB

Chris Thompson (Runs mainly off-tackle, edge, and pass plays.  Never goes up the middle (that's mostly Kelley & Jones, really only viable in PPR imho)

Alfred Blue (Looked good other than a forced fumble, Lamar Miller could miss time, though not likely)

Don't forget about Knile Davis for those in Standard leagues, he could be playable this week if you need a RB badly.

WR

Marquise Goodwin (Boom or bust play, note he gets a concussion with 3min to go in 4th quarter, questionable for this week, but high upside if he plays)

Davante Adams (Packers gameplan was clearly to abuse Devante Bausby #20)

Cordarrelle Patterson (Vikings use him almost always on bubble screens.  They get Chicago, and guess who got abused on the last primetime game by a WR3?  That's right, Devante Bausby)

Russell Shepard (Looks like a real WR, reminds me of how I felt when watching Meredith, great matchup vs OAK, which is ranked #29 vs WRs)

Saw an interesting tweet with Matt Asiata on the wire in my ppr and McKinnon banged up. Asiata does suck, but if you are desperate, maybe? Catching passes and GL carries always gets my attention.

HB routes run leaders, Week 7
Le'Veon Bell 44
Ty Montgomery* 43
David Johnson 43
Melvin Gordon 40
Matt Asiata 29

Same thing in my league. I am way RB screwed in one league with byes and now Coleman hurt. Might have to drop Enunwa for Asista if I can get him. Thompson is the only other viable RB but this is a nonPPR league.

None of these guys will help this week but Rawls and Dixon might be 2 waiver wire rb's to target for the stretch run.  Ladarius Green and Ebron could be 2 TE targets.

Is Davante Adams an "All-in" target this week? Hard to ignore the production.
My WR's are such a steaming pile, I may have to put in a claim. I'm not a big time believer, but the guys seemed to be doing something with little up to last week's explosion.

This is fantastic thanks.

Hey I dont want to rain on your parade but have you watched the giants this year? They CANT run block. And even if they could, Ben Mac isnt calling running plays. They MOST definitely will NOT change into the Cowboys run first team  coming off a bye ..this year's D. Johnson is wishful thinking , Im afraid...

Giants havent had a decent running game in several years now and it wont happen this year either.you are better snagging Chris Thompson if he's on the waiver wire in your league.
I agree. They didn't addres OL in the offseason and it shows. I like what I've seen of Perkins, but can he pass block? I hear not very well.

Nope, I watched him vs. Baltimore and his pass blocking is abysmal. He tries to shoulder-chip guys instead of actually committing to the block. It also should be mentioned Larry Donnell's blocking has not been good this year either.

EDIT: Odd, someone just dropped John Brown of the Cardinals in my league. Even with his sickle-cell trait he's playing this week and Cards WRs are hurting badly, that's a $10-15 FAAB bid at least, no?

Is Montgomery? Assuming his position is WR - We use flex roster spots, so him being a RB does nothing.

oh yes. at this point in the season, montgomery is the type of guy you should be going all in on with your FAAB.

until something changes in their gameplan, he's a pretty clear cut WR3 with strong WR2 upside. his RB eligibility is just a plus.

i can't imagine adams being anything more than the occasional bye week filler.

Just something to consider about Sheperd... he played very limited snaps on offense. Even Cecil Shorts played more offensive snaps than him, he just wasn't targeted.

I know people were burned by him last year...and maybe Jordy keeps improving after coming back.  But why can't he be more?

Week 1...he was WR 26 with 11 points on 7 targets

Week 2...he was terrible.  .6 points against Minnesota who is killing all WRs value right now.  There are very few I would start against them.

Week 3 he was against WR 26 with 8.3 points...now that is TD dependent there as he only had 2 targets and catches

Week 5 he was WR 14...another 8 targets and 14.5 points

Week 6 he was hurt part way through the game...had 3 targets for 34 yards or so before leaving with the injury.

Week 7 he blew up for 16 targets, WR1 with 28.2 points.

I can see him as a great WR 3, with flex and WR 2 potential the ROS.

Cobb is in the slot and thriving there.  Monty out of the backfield.  Jordy still taking coverage with him and Adams is the other outside WR for this team and Rodgers trusts him.

Agree with all of this.

I picked up Ty on the cheap last week and am going all in on Adams this week. And then hope Ty gets RB status in my league.

Desperately need to pick up a WR/TE this week to avoid starting TWilliams @Denver. Here are the claims I put in:

  1. Adams (but I won't get him)
  2. Fiedorowicz
  3. RShepard
My logic: I'm intrigued by Shepard, but I've seen too many cases where a WR (especially a rookie) has a good game out of nowhere, everyone gets excited about his potential, and then he promptly disappears. This year alone we've seen Sharpe and Eli Rogers seem to have carved out roles for themselves before falling off the face of the earth. As for CJ, his role has been expanding week to week, and he has a great match-up against the Lions (worst fantasy D vs TEs).
Added two more names above Shepard: Patterson and Marqise Lee. They're both dart throws, and probably spot starts at best, but both have at least been getting targets the past couple weeks. Also, this league gives return yards and both have been decent in that area.

Honestly, if I can get 7-10 points (standard) out of whoever I pick up I'll be thrilled.

To me, there is a chance Jordy is done.

If there's a chance that the new #1 is Adams I think it's worth the gamble.
Somewhat of a tangent, but worth remembering the pre-Peterson CW was that a guy was never all the way back his first season off an ACL tear. This year has been a good reminder that AD may have been an outlier. Of all the prominent ACL guys from last year, only Benjamin has done much, and even he has been inconsistent.

All of which is to say Adams may have value ROS if Jordy's not back to being Jordy yet.

Trying not to live in the past but Adams had such an opportunity to cement himself last year and he so didn't do that. What's to say it's changed now?

Maybe you guys have covered this.  Darren McFadden said he was good to go last week (Rotoworld's last update was 10/5), trade deadline coming up and he's not going anywhere on this team barring some catastrophe.  Detroit or Green Bay would be nice landing spots..  I'll have to drop one of my lottery tickets to make room, probably Smallwood.  If nothing happens, back to the ww.

Who's the pickup this wk for the Vikes vs a crappy Chi secondary..Thielen or Cordarrelle?

I thought about this, but he would probably need at least 2-3 weeks to be acclimated /  fantasy relevant, and by that time I don't know if we could trust him like that in crunch time.

With injuries and all though, who knows. He's worth a stash if you have room at the very end of your bench.

The wire looks like #### this week.   Some things I'm seeing however..

Quick has seen his snaps rise for 5 consecutive weeks and saw a season high 9 targets last week. Kendricks has also been trending similarly. I still don't really want a part of the team but it's probably worth monitoring.

Wallace's snaps/targets have essentially risen every week. If Smith's injury keeps him out longer/he's finished it may be worth targeting Wallace during his bye. Perriman and Aiken pretty much split work behind him.

Hunter played on 93% of BUF's snaps last week but only saw 4 targets.

Lafell plays on essentially all of the snaps and sees a ton of RZ targets but his targets are highly volatile. He should prob be owned though.

This is an aside, sell Tate before Riddick/Ebron come back. Do it now.

He's probably not available but Doyle played on 93% of the snaps, saw 10 targets and gets a lot of RZ looks. Also, Rogers, who likely is available, isn't a factor (only 3 targets).

Theilen played on 88% of the snaps even with Diggs back (80%). Patterson's snaps also remained constant (~65%) with Diggs back and he even out targeted both of them with 7 targets (Diggs and Theilen had 5). If I had to take a shot on one it'd probably be with Patterson but it seems like a toss up.

Hogan has been worse with Brady back (snaps/targets took a dive). How?

PHI is a complete and utter #### show as it pertains to fantasy.

Shepard played on 36% of the snaps, Shorts actually played on 41%. I mentioned Shepard as someone to watch in the VJax thread but he's going to need to see more of the field to be a consistent option. Given his performance though, it's quite possible.

Corey Coleman and D. Adams are on my waiver. Going to drop Jordan Matthews for one.

I believe there needs to be a dynasty waiver wire thread, because in a dynasty league players like Devante Adams and Corey Coleman aren't on the waiver wire and dynasty owners don't drop Jordan Matthews.

He did see the 2nd most targets with 6, everyone else after him had 3 (and Shorts had 0).

What about Vikes in general, like Asiata vs those two?
Sure. RBs are scarce and if he's getting a large majority of the carries, he'll probably make a good flex play at worst. I'd rather have that than a coin toss WR4/5.

Fitzpatrick has an easy schedule ahead if he can get his head straight.

Week 8  - 31 @CLE

Week 9  - 18 @MIA

Week 10 - 17 LA

Week 12 - 24 NE

Week 13 - 29 IND
