Weekly strategy vs. your opponent (1 Viewer)

I am just curious about your strategies as far as facing your weekly opponent. For example:

WR (my team): Chad Johnson, Roy Williams, Rod Smith, Mushin M., Lee Evans

QB (Opponent): Eli and Plummer both starting

Do you take away some points from Plummer by starting Rod Smith opposite of him?

Do you stick w/ Roy since he's a #1?

This isn't for just this week, just curious as to how you look to trump your opponent other than simply scoring more points.

There isnt one. I treat it like golfers approach a tournament. Score as well as I can with what I have.

 1--The best way to win is to score the most points. In fact, it's the only way to win. 2--It's not so simple sometimes.

Even w/ the rest of my squad exceeding his, playing my wideout that trumps his QB who he throws to doesn't help solidify a victory?

Playing your wideout that scores the most points solidifies a victory.

Yep.If I start Roy, I should end up with 100 points. If I start someone else, I end up with 95 on average. Then, starting Roy is the EV+ play.

I agree with the others. Who is on your opponent's team has absolutely no impact on your team's scoring. I often don't even look at opponent's rosted. Just drives me crazy when they've got a player on one of my other teams.

depends I think. For example in a 2 ppr for TE league I'm starting Watson over Heap. all receptions\yards\TD's would combine to give me way more points than he gets for Brady.

Now obviously You aren't going to start Reche Caldwell over Chad Johnson just because He has Tom Brady.

The only time my opponent's roster factors into the equation is for the one team I have that requires two kickers on my roster.

i.e. - All things being equal between two kickers, I'll take the SD kicker over someone else if my opponent has LT. This makes LT's TD's worth five instead of six.

By playing R Smith you (in part) tie your results to your opponent's. This reduces the number of possible outcomes (both favorable and unfavorable). If your team is stronger than your opponent's it increases your chances of winning by shrinking the universe of unfavorable scoring combinations.

Conversely, if you're weaker you want to have as many possible outcomes as you can. In this case you shouldn't start R Smith.

This was discussed at length last season, but I don't have time to do a search. BostonFred, GregR, LHUCKS,

Ridgelake, and BassNBrew all have posted extensively on the topic.

If you have WR3 or flex spots where you have a few players that you would normally be ranking about the same and can't decide who to start, and one of them happens to be the main target of a QB your opponent is starting, then sure, that could be a determining factor to start that guy, otherwise it shouldn't be a factor.

This doesn't happen that often, but if you're trying to fill your WR3 spot, and looking at either Doug Gabriel or Mark Clayton and your opponent is starting Brady, go with Gabriel. Hopefully you'll never have to reach that far down in the WR core though.
