This guy sums up my feelings on Radiohead:

It's an excellent album, but I just can't seem to appreciate it like other people do. The vocals don't strike me as particularly great and I have difficulty making out the lyrics over the majority of instrumentals. Yorke's singing lacks personality to me, but I could defiantly see why people enjoy it. I love the exceptional instrumentation and profound interlude, but some of the experimental portions of the album throw me off. It's like reading computer coding. I have trouble making out what this project means or what it's trying to say. With that said, I still enjoy this album, and what it did for music.
Great that you guys get something out of it, I can't see how though. I tried listening to OK Computer and two songs in I wanted to take a nap.
The 2nd song on OK computer is Paranoid Android. You wanted to take a nap listening to Paranoid Android?
Yea I'm not crazy about that album but Paranoid Android is definitely a tune I like.

Weezer's longest song on Maladroit (critically acclaimed, but just 'meh' for me) is 3:19. Look, I do a lot of drugs. I need songs to take me somewhere. Weezer's average song lasts 2 minutes and change. That's just not enough time to floor me. Give me 6 minutes of Paranoid Android with it's twists and turns and changes and complexity any day of the week. Seriously, what's the difference between Green Day and Weezer? A high IQ lead man with dark lyrics? Please....
this

Maybe should have said "More listener friendly" or less "pretentious sounding"....

I went to shows and listened a lot more to those 1st few cd's...

Maybe Fred was right.
I think it's more 'boring' than 'pretentious'. To people that understand music I'm sure Radiohead is far ahead of Weezer on a technical level, but as for enjoyment for the non-musical they don't come close to Weezer.

Since when is "dude, it sounds awesome on drugs" a legitimate musical critique?

Your reading comprehension is lacking. He said he needs music with depth, not some pop bubble gum bs.

Since when is "user friendly"? ;)

Weezer are the pull-ups of pop music.... Not QUITE ready for big boy music yet, but their fans HAVE made the jump from Beiber and Nickleback.

Since the beginning.

Weezer Vs Chumbawumba ??
oh come on. Radiohead sucks but they're better than tub thumping.
A company I worked for in 98 got sold and Anderson came in and did the audit. The lead was hot as hell, but really uptight, and I shared my office with her. We all went out for dinner the first night they got in and went by a bar for a few after where tubthumping came on after she'd had a couple margs. Got her to dance a bit with me to that. For the rest of the time she was there she would just randomly in the middle of an hour of silence breaking into "I get knocked down, but I get up again..." and gyrate in her chair. That song is stuck in my head with that memory and it's a pleasant one. Otherwise, it might be a baseball bat to boombox situation. So, in conclusion, the Chumbas get a pass. So it is decreed.

Saw them live in 2003 in Atlanta (thanks for clearing it up, AJ) and they played "Creep", and it wasn't the only time they did so even on that very tour. Saw them again in 2009 as they toured for "In Rainbows", and again they played it. As far as I can tell, the whole "they don't play Creep" thing hasn't been accurate for ages. I'm sure they got tired of it for a while, but the truth is less polarizing than the myth.

PS. They were fantastic in both shows, and Radiohead wins this one by a country mile, even though I enjoy Blue Album/Pinkerton Weezer.

PPS. Editing the quotes out 'cause the formatting is all messed up.

Might as well just compare Radiohead to the Beatles next, OK Computer vs Sgt. Peppers. Radiohead is just copying what REM did a decade earlier. Just another in a long line of crapass bands that college kids idolize.

I can just picture @[icon]posting in here again.

UR SO MAD should be the next title of the next Weezer album.

I've said repeatedly in here that I enjoy Weezer's music, I just think Radiohead are on a different level.

If I'm in the mood for something poppy and simple, I listen to Weezer.
If I'm in the mood for something more creative and complex, I listen to Radiohead.
Both are good stuff.

I was just kidding.

Blue Album is absolutly phenomenal. Closest thing to a Beatle's album in terms of sheer "catchiness" that ever existed.

Start to finish, there isn't a single song that doesn't get stuck in your head. Every once and a while I put it on and just smile. Just beautiful. A shame how hard they collapsed after PInkerton. Basically unlisteable.

I love Weezer but it's not even close. Weezer Blue and Ok Computer are voth monsters.   The next four best records from both are all Radiohead records imo.  And Beverly Hills.....oof!

I think it's great that people graduate high school and still enjoy that feeling where nobody else gets your favorite band.

I'll say this: the legendary @shuke is flying cross county to see one of these bands with me.  I got presale tickets.  When they went on sale, tickets sold out in minutes.  Biggest venue in Portland.  Hint: the band in question is not Weezer.

My friend from Portland was debating going to the show with my other friend from San Diego. Enjoy, GB.

:lmao:  I missed this nugget of wisdom the first time around.

I'll be there as well. GA floor? This is the first time they've played Portland since I've lived here. I saw them play the Gorge in 2001. The first time I had seen them and one of the craziest shows I've ever witnessed. Climbing up the Walls and How to Disappear Completely gave me shivers.

I've had the pleasure of seeing both bands live in concert a few times--and for me--the clear answer is Radiohead.   With that being said--it pains me to say that I preferred the older Radiohead albums to the more recent stuff they have released.  I preferred when their music sounded more like actual sounds than "soundscapes"--but they are still damn good.

I'm no music buff, but I think both of them kind of suck. I'm sure there's something I just don't get. I know people that still talk about Radiohead and love them. Sometimes I wonder if there's some new band named Radiohead that has popped up. I remember Creep was alright about 20 years ago, but was unaware that they were somehow still relevant.

Did a quick listen of a few songs. That crap is dreadful.

I think the Radiohead debates over the years has taught me to just appreciate the differences in people and their tastes - my kids give me #### all the time about listening to Sinatra or The Beatles or Simon and Garfunkel - all while listening to current music that sounds like absolute ####.

My only issue is I WANT to like Radiohead, a lot of my friends like them, lots of good posters here like them, it just doesn't do anything for me.  It doesn't bother me like it once did - let people listen to what they like and I'll do the same.

This is kind of a mantra for life, really.

Oh for sure.  The thing I like about the music discussions/debates is it usually doesn't go down really annoying path that the same discussions for movies do.  You know - if you don't like Kubrick or Malick you are a mouth breathing rube that doesn't get movies but if you do like more artsy stuff it's obvious you are just doing to pretend you get it to feel superior, but don't actually like it.

On board until someone brings up Counting Crows

Weezer is like your favorite color.  Solid and a great go-to on most occasions.

Radiohead is like a rainbow.  All over the spectrum; some truly awesome, some unlistenable.

I like them both a lot, but I just feel like Radiohead is musically on another level.  I'd be surprised if Weezer didn't agree as they've actually done some Radiohead covers in their day.  To my knowledge, Radiohead hasn't done any Weezer covers.
