"We're Alive" Zombie Survival Audio Show (1 Viewer)

Thanks for starting a thread on this and bringing it to my attention; I would never have even been aware of this if it wasn't for the FFA. Just finished Season 1 today and I've really enjoyed this so far. The guys who voice Saul and Michael in particular do a great job. Non-spoiler: This series takes a different approach to the zombie apocalyse and breaks some of the "rules" of the genre. I was uncertain about this at first, but I found that it ended up making the series fresher than what you might expect from a genre that's getting pretty stale.

Just finished Season One. While there are some questionable actions in the writing, it's pretty solid all around. Bert's voice is distracting since he seems to be the only one putting on a character and not using a real voice. Datoo (sp?) isn't a very good actor but improved quite a bit later on, especially in the Purgatory chapter. And his friend Samantha was very good. Telling someone that the zombies are smart would usually turn them off on the show but they seem to make it work so far. Downloaded the first few chapters for season 2.

Does Skittles make a return? I took some classes from the guy who played him. Thought he did a great job.

Skittles pops up again I believe.

Yep. Not a major character, but he does show up in at least one more episode.

This week's episode had too much of a character named Glenn - he's someone playing a character as well, and annoying.

Chapter 44 - Wow that was rough.

Only 4 more chapters til the conclusion (12 episodes left), I admire their creativity and am excited to see how they wrap it up.

Am I the only one still listening?

Nope. I listened to the first three seasons a while back, and I'm waiting for them to finish the series before I start season 4. I listen to this while I run, and a season can last me a long time.

Fair enough. I think they have done a good job with season 4. I'm glad this thread introduced me to the show.

I haven't listened to season 4 at all, because I think listening to one a week would drive me crazy.

I'm going to listen to season 1-3 soon, and then go through 4 once it's complete.

I'm glad to hear that people are enjoying season 4. I thought season 3 was disappointing.

The show has been uneven at times but overall it is solid and it entertains me, which is all that matters in my book.

Still listening, still enjoying it. I'm not sure there's enough time to wrap everything up nicely.

Just finished the series. I really enjoyed it and am sad it's over.

Are there any other audio series like this out there?

I literally just finished this last week as well. Season 4 was a strong rebound from a lackluster Season 3.
Agreed.

But overall it was just such a fun ride. They really did a great job frustrating the hell out of listeners just enough to keep us wanting more (####### Scratch  :wall: :hot: ). Even though there were definitely cheesy moments and some head scratching turns I think they did a great job developing characters I didn't realize that I had grown so attached to them (it got a little dusty during the last couple episodes  ). And overall the story was interesting and very well told.

I am searching the web for other serial dramas right now. I really like this medium.

I need to start over. I got through the first season and a half in bits and spurts. Now that I have a long commute I need to to back and begin again.

Scott Sigler books are the best books in this genre in my opinion, though his production is nowhere near as good. They're also free serialized audiobooks. I recommend the GFL series starting with The Rookie, but honestly I've enjoyed all of the books. He just re-worked Nocturnal and had a different guy do the audio, and I liked it.

Well I did some research and it turns out there are a lot of serialized podcasts out there.

I finished the first two seasons of The Leviathan Chronicles and just started Wormwood, both of which have significantly higher production values than We're Alive. TLC is an interesting enough story and it is definitely fantastical in all aspects and while I will hope they come out with season 3 (it's been in the works for awhile and is apparently in post production) I also kind of hope it is the final season. Too many of the principal characters are just too ultra-capable to the point that I seldom felt concerned about whether or not they would overcome whatever obstacles they were facing.

I am just starting Wormwood so I am still unsure about it. I am only three episodes in and there are already so many characters that I don't remember who did what, however the main character Dr. Xander Crow seems like he is going to be highly entertaining. He's a pompous, British, alcoholic, former doctor turned occult scholar/detective, it's a fun mix and the actor is doing an excellent job with the character. I will keep listening just to hear his caustic wit.

I have one called The Zombie Chronicles in my queue but I am not sure I really want to go down the zombie road again after We're Alive. I can't help but think I would be jaded and it will pale by comparison.

Another one that is very highly rated is called Welcome To Night Vale which is not so much a serialized drama but it tells the story of the town of Night Vale through the lens of a weekly radio news show. I have heard very good things about it but haven't jumped in yet.
