West Coast Offense Question.. (1 Viewer)

I dunno why but I seem to get these awesome ideas during breakfast and I don't even eat Wheaties! Anyway, this morning I was wondering about first year West Coast offenses and the type of number changes they had from the previous season. The only thing is, I don't think I could remember all of them.

What better place to ask for help than the most knowledgeable spot on the internet? (Hint: It's this very spot!) I'm leaning towards trying to go back twenty years, so my question is:

Over the past twenty years, which teams have installed West Coast offenses for at least one year?

What? You want money? Greedy bastards.. uh, how about a nice little post detailing all of the preceding info instead? Sound good? Done.

Thank you in advance!

That's a hard question to answer. "West Coast Offense" seems to have become an umbrella term for any offense that utilizes shorter routes along with more 3 to 5-step drops.

For example: The Denver WCO has used the zone blocking running game to open up misdirections and bootlegs, while Philly's relies on short passes to running backs or TEs that technically are considered passes but are more like "long handoffs". These are obviously only two offenses out of many that can be considered WCO. Is there an offense or are there offenses in particular that you have in mind? Because, in my opinion, the WCO term has become a little vague.

Preferably from the Bill Walsh coaching tree.. I know about Shanahan and Holmgren and all them, but I'm not sure of any other under the radar type guys who might have implemented it at other places.

Eg: Jim Zorn, who got it from Holmgren, who got it from Walsh.
