Westbrook's 16th "T" rescinded by NBA....avoids suspension (1 Viewer)

Covered in the NBA thread, oddly enough.
Probably predicted in that thread, too. Not the first or last time it's happened. Technicals and flagrants get rescinded days later after review several times a season, with or without cause. Sometimes refs will huddle and rescind a technical during a game if letting it stand means having to eject the player for two minor offenses.

If this happens in early March, he serves the suspension.

Considering the Thunder have only two games remaining and are still alive for the playoffs, I think it's the right decision.

From what I saw on Sportscenter, the ref accosted him. Glad to see it rescinded.

if possible could you provide an example of the bolded.......thanks

if the technical was not warranted I can see cause for it to be rescinded......if the technical was warranted, it should not be rescinded just because it was his 16th and would cause him to miss a game.....why have the rule if your not going to enforce it......

Because it's a business run by human beings, not robots.

Saw it happen in person once. Gary Payton went chest-to-chest with an opposing guard after a whistle. A ref called techs on both guys to break it up. One quarter later, Payton got T'ed up for arguing with the ref over a foul call. Then the refs immediately huddled and realized they would have to eject Payton, so they rescinded the second T and let him stay in the game.

Seemed pretty tame to me. Guys get away with a lot more every night.

Definitely the right decision, unlike the Westbrook one.

Probably because it is not their intention to have it have that much of an impact on a team's season, especially when they're often such judgement calls in the moment. Not to mention, the timing of the 16th and subsequent suspension is pretty arbitrary. It's not like he's being suspended in the post season for a fight with an opposing player. I'd like to think they'd try to wiggle anybody out of it in such a situation.

Am I the only one that thinks 16 T's is excessive? I think a suspension should come after like 4.
Yeah I definitely do. I'd say someone between what you indicated and 16 is fine.

Coming to a guy/team's aid after 16 T's is moronic. As was indicated above, why have the rule if you won't enforce it? Why have refs call technicals at all if you're not going to stand behind them anyway?

i'm not necessarily doubting you maybe saw somethiing like this happen.....but I am pretty confident that may have been an isolated incident and the use of the word "sometimes" is a little misleading in your post.....almost as if it is a common thing that happens in the course of a season.....in fact you may have witnessed the only time it has happened....andit probably shouldn't have.....

Lol. You should be excited to see them get killed by the Warriors.

A guy getting 16 Ts in a season is one every five games.

Do you really want a guy to miss a game (and a game check) for getting a technical foul once every ten days?

The rule has served its purpose, and I have no problem with any technical being rescinded, especially in Westbrook's case.

(Almost) no one really wants to see one of the league's best players sit out for this at this critical point of the season.

They should stick to the rule. Having said that the Pels have to play SA and the Thunder have to play the TWolves, so it really doesn't matter, OKC would probably beat MIN anyway and if NO beats SA they deserve to be in.
