What a BRUTAL week for byes.... (1 Viewer)

small roster leagues are gonna have to get VERY creative. This looks like one of the worst weeks for byes that I have seen since I started playing fantasy football. Starters galore on these teams...

Cleveland, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New England

Blame NBC and the flexible schedule. They get their choice of Sunday games (with some restrictions) beginning in week 10 and didn't want any byes to limit the pool of available teams for broadcast. The NFL had to condense eight weeks of byes (3-10) into seven weeks, meaning 6 and 7 have six teams off.

Sucks, but every fantasy owner has the same issue to deal with.

It's funny how things work, but last week was killer for me (and week 9 looms as a bad one on the horizon). This week I lose only Ben Watson (of my regular starters) - and that may be addition by subtraction if you know what I mean.

Week 7 is pretty brutal, too. St. Louis, SF, Baltimore, Chicago, Tennessee, and New Orleans.

SJax, Gore, TJones, Holt, and Heap owner. :bag:

Wilkins. That is the roster space I am dreading the most having to fill.Only Watson hurts me this week - and I can accept a zero at TE if necessary.Wilkins in week 7, though - I have to give up a valuable roster spot for a b/u kicker? I am DEEP in that 16 player roster league, and there is simply no WAY you can go without a kicker and hope to win that week. Who do I drop? Michael Turner or Maurice Drew (my RB4/5)? Do I drop Drew Bennett (WR4) or my WR5 (Bobby Engram or Bryant Johnson - depending on waiver moves)?I might have to either punt the week or drop my only b/u QB. Probably go with one QB for a week and hope I can re-acquire him next week.

Also, as for this week, I looked at one roster, and I have FIVE players on a bye.

All five were sitting on my bench this past week. LOL!

I didn't know that was the reason they reduced the bye schedule. Thanks.

I don't want to say anything to jinx my comfortable lead going into tonight, so I won't, but I agree with you. This week I have Brady and Chester Taylor off, but I have Jake Plummer, Alex Smith, Willie Parker and Lamont Jordan in a start 2QB/2RB league, so I am probably not losing too much. I get back Andre Johnson and Chad Johnson (who I think needed the rest for his head), so I am better off this week as far as I can tell. I have been lucky enough to have good depth, so bye weeks haven't been as bad this year even with more teams out.

Marc - I think you drop Bennett. With V. Young in there, his opportunities/targets are plummeting and will continue to plummet.

Hijack over - this week and week 7 should have been factored in during the draft. Its tough, but we all faced the same issue.

Anyone remember the season that the NFL tried 18 weeks, and 2 byes per team? 8 teams on a bye every week...wow...

I'm guessing this has occured to you, but if your depth is that good, it's probably time to think about making a trade up of 2 for 1 if possible. Then you have the room to pick up a spare kicker without having to drop someone you'd rather keep. Even if it's a minor trade - might be worth looking around to try to find one that would help you.

I have 7 players on bye, including my only defense (Jax) and my only TE (Watson).

I have enough players at the other positions to cover those. I've been saving my waiver priority, though, just for this week. I don't want to lose Jacksonville or Watson, so I am going to have to wait until the end of the week and then drop Jacksonville and Watson, then use my #1 waiver spot to reacquire Jacksonville. Watson hasn't exactly been tearing it up, so I doubt he'll get picked up off waivers. I'll reacquire him as either my second waiver move of the week or roll the dice and grab him as a free agent.

That's my plan, but we'll see if it works.

As soon as the NFL schedule came out and this was announced, I started planning for it in Fantasy. Managed to already pass the bye week on almost all of my players by picking studs with 3, 4, and 5 byes. Now the rest of the league will be poaching off the WW and dropping guys I can hold on my bench for a bye week and play the rest of the year.

Like my opponent next week has 3 WRs on his roster (shallow bench, 14-man teams-start 8, bench 6). His 3 WRs are Marvin Harrison (bye), Chris Henry (susp), and Larry Fitzgerald (inj). He'll have to drop 2 guys to come up with a valid lineup--possibly Chris Henry and someone around RB 40. Every other team in the league but me has this problem (I just have Ben Watson on a bye and already have made room for it).

Tried that each of the last three weeks, but noone will talk about any of my players except my RBs - and noone wants Reggie Bush (non-PPR) He's the only RB I'll give up (LT, TBell, RBush, MDrew, MTurner) I'd trade Drew, but noone's asked for him instead of Bush, and I can't go into the stretch here without a solid RB2 (which I expect Bell to be).

I think you are right - I have been dangling Bennett (and all my receivers not named Boldin - Mason, Galloway, Engram) since week one, plus any of my RBs not named Tonlinson for a decent QB, but no takers. I think Bennett would get picked up in a heartbeat from the WW, so I prefer to trade him. I would like to avoid dropping him, and would prefer to go with only one QB for a week because we start-3.I am not comfortable with only 4 receivers on my roster in a start-3 league. I am comfortable risking my b/u QB.[/hijack off]bye weeks are definitely a part of the game - two teams last week agreed to play their matchup without kickers so they wouldn't have to sacrifice a roster spot. Their kickers shared the same bye week. I said to my buddy: "it's funny you and Brian (our league commissioner who was his opponent last week) both had kickers on a bye." His non-reaction to that statement (he loves talking about his team) tells me they agreed not to pick up kickers, and I guess he was worried I'd find it morally reprehensible. It is DEFINITELY collusive, but there was an agreement without any consideration to NOT take action rather than to DO something. And I'm sure it was a casual thing theyt talked about - hey we should both save the 4 dollar transaction fee and the roster spot and just not pick up a kicker this week. So I don't think I care.Would you care if two teams both had their Ks on a bye and both agreed not to fill the roster spot with active players?

Wow - way more risky thean my plan.I feel much better about going with just one QB to cover Wilkins' bye.
