What about Kevin Jones? (1 Viewer)

I rolled the dice in week 14 with Kevin Jones, and it worked out for me. It seems like, no matter the opponent, when Martz is determined to mix in the running game, Jones does great.

But of course, he is not consistent, and they are facing the Chargers this weekend. Will Jones continue to produce, or will they go back to their old ways again?

Funny how the Lions almost beat the Cowboys while running the ball. It is only when Martz throws every down the Lions get their ### handed to them. I cant imagine i am the only one to notice this, so i would assume the Lions try to run until it stops working. When Jones gets the touches, he put up the numbers, so i see no reason to not have him in your starting lineup over the next couple of weeks.

Well, probably not since I am starting him. He's the biggest headache on my team. Everytime I start him he gets 2 carries.

Some things working in his favor...

1. Lions need to win, and had success running vs Cowboys.

2. Merriman is OUT

3. Teams have been able to run on them lately...Fatdale had over 100 yds and 1 td last week.

I would "guess" he's good for another solid game. If not high rushing totals, he may get a GL td.

I'm starting him over K. Smith (who almost cost me a playoff win last wk) and MJD.

The fact that the Lions need to win is what scares me so much. How many times have we watched Martz just abandon the running game early on because he's desperate to pass the ball for quick points?

I'm paging H.K. for guidance here. This is what he posted last week:

"100% guaranteed. They are going to lose but Jones is a mortal lock for 150-175 total yards and at least two scores.

Jones should be the #1 RB on everyone's board this week. He's looking at 25-30 carries and 8-10 recepts minimum.

No Roy Williams.

No pass protection.

No way to stop JJones, Romo, Barber, Witten, Crayton on D.

DET has to shorten the game and keep their D off the field. Jones might get 80% of the Lions' touches this week. Even if the Lions are down by three TD's in the third quarter, they'll still be getting the ball to KJ on every play. Jones owners can't lose this week."

For two days I turned this argument over in the back of my head, and the more I thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. My alternative was Jacobs, whom typically I plug and play when he is healthy. Five minutes before lineups were due, I gave the final nod to H.K.'s prediction, crossed my fingers and switched out Jacobs for Kevin Jones. As a result, I moved on to the semis.

Personally, I like Jones against the Chargers with Merriman out, but I'm very curious to learn H.K.'s take.

umm, why does merriman being out affect KJ?

won't that allow Kitna more time in the pocket (in Martz' mind anyways)

it's not like he'd be tackling KJ anyways, he'd be flying right by him trying to get to the QB

You never know.

I would think since Marinelli blew up after the Minny game and with the success the Lions had running against the Cowboys, KJ should get at least a combined 20 touches.

Problem with KJ is he rarely has 2 good games in a row it seems. :D
I thought he had like 3 good games in a row in the middle of the season unless Im off my rocker? Of course he then went on and stunk up the joint till this past week.

Here's another point: They seem to give the ball to Jones at home at home than on the road. This game is on the road.

I need to decide about this very quickly since for me it's Jones or Selvin Young.

KJ or ADP? Both carry risk now that ADP couldnt run for crap vs SF. Chicago watches the tape and bang AD is in for a tough day, or does KJ tank after his good game?

They completely abandoned the run in Arizona and Minnesota. Philly was his first game back, Washington they were down early (11 carries), but they controlled the game in Chicago by running him 23 times. No clear trend in my mind, it could go either way depending on the flow of the game.I just realized that in 14 weeks of carrying KJ, I have yet to start him alongside LT2:

WKS 1-3 Benson (traded for Holt)
WKS 4-5, 7-10, 14 - Lynch
WK 6 - Leonard
WKS 11-12 Chester
WKS 13 - Kolby
WK 15 - ???I wasted a middle/late round pick on him, he outperformed and exceeded all expectations, and I have still been too scared to plug him in the lineup.

Probably roll with Marshawn again.

It really has nothing to do with KJ. Jones is running as good right now as he ever has. It is just getting the carries.

KJ seems so risky. Playing a rb who has the potential to get only a handful of carries seems like a gutsy call to make, unless you don't have other options.

As for the topic at hand,

I think KJ has to be played with confidence this week. You can't sit him after what he did last week. Without Roy Williams they will need to get production from somewhere. I plugged him in last second because of his PPR value- with RW out, more balls thrown his way...

The only concern I have is how well Duckett looked... he could steal some carries from him this week. But I think you have to start KJ... I figure he'll be good for at least 80 yards, 1 TD, 3 receptions for another 15-20 yards or so... pretty solid game for PPR for a #2 RB

I would not be that concerned about Duckett. TJ will get some carries but every time the Lions were inside the 5 it was all Kevin jones and has been since he has come back.

Good to hear. Seemed that way on my game trackerNow you do know that DET won't win another game right? :goodposting: Kitna jinxed you guys with that 10 game prediction...

I just hope KJ can carry me through these next 2 weeks... I picked him up for super cheap earlier this season with the hope he'd rebound... him and Rudi Johnson. Both seem to be heating up here in the playoffs... both get the start for me this week!

:goodposting: Duckett is just as big of a threat to Jones as Jackson is to Lynch.

Duckett has hands of stone, that is why he will never be more that a spot back. In a martz offense the RB has to catch. That is why Avion Cason comes in when KJ needs a breather in passing down situations.

Maybe, but Duckett is more likely to steal goaline carries from Jones than is Jackson from Lynch.

Other than Duckett's size, is there anything to support that KJ will lose out to Duckett on the goal line? I haven't seen a lot of the Lions, but Jones seems to be getting the goal line touches. In the Dallas game, KJ had was the carrier on **every** rushing play inside the 10, scoring on two of them.

Correct.Duckett's TD run was from something like 32 yards out.

Jones is the goal line back and pretty good at it too.

OWNED!

The one thing that scares me is that the game is on the road. The Lions usually get crushed on the road. They lost by 30 to Phi, Wash, and Minn on the road. I am afraid they will get behind early and abandon the run.

I am trying to decide between KJ and Chester. I am already starting AD. PPR

weird, I'm deciding between those two also. I have KJ in as of right now, but i keep waffling back and forth.

Dude, with the exception of some yards, HK was closer to being spot on than his many detractors were.
Sadly, last week I told people Jones would have a great day and all I got was grief. The reason I wasn't 100% spot on was Duckett, who vultured 60 yards and a TD which wasn't accounted for in my projection of Jones. Usually TJ doesn't get as much work, but the aggregate rushing total for the Dallas game was right in the middle of my 150-175 range generated by my statistical model.Interestingly enough, I spent the entire off season telling people to avoid Javon Walker because Cutler threw to Marshall a ton and to avoid Brandon Jacobs because he couldn't handle the load.....and all I got was skewered by this board. Did anyone recognize that I nailed it? Nope.Much like last week, Jones' production this week should be pretty easy to figure out. The factors impacting the Lions' game plan and Jones' performance are pretty obvious.

Funny, at the time nobody caught the fact that I left TO out of the mix when listing Dallas' offensive weapons. Reason: I knew TO would be a non-factor.

Chargers | Merriman could miss rest of season

Wed, 12 Dec 2007 19:24:55 -0800

Mike Sullivan, of the North County Times, reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman (knee) is out for Week 15 after sustaining a torn left knee ligament in Week 14. There is a chance Merriman will miss the rest of the regular season.

While nobody knows for sure, my opinion is that Marinelli laid down the law after that ridiculous Vikings game with regards to running the ball. I may get burned trying to predict how many carries/touches KJ will get, but I don't see KJ with fewer than 15 carries in this game. He has proven if he gets touches, he puts up solid fantasy numbers.

This may be the toughest lineup decision this week for fantasy owners because of the unpredictability of the Lions offense and the play calling.

Dude, with the exception of some yards, HK was closer to being spot on than his many detractors were.
All last year he was down on Javon Walker and Donald Driver. Driver finished top 5 and top 8 in yards and TD's last year. This year HK's been down on Greg Jennings all year. When he puts up big numbers week after week he says he stinks because his targets are down. HK is like the guy who put s a player down and though that guy is a top 10 players for years when he has a down year he says "See I told you". Name 5 predictions he has gotten right.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was referring to in post 35. Nothing this person claims is true, either. However, there is no stopping him from tracking every move I make so he can come into a thread and attack me. Instead of discussing Kevin Jones' projections vs. SD, this is the where this poster has chosen to take this Shark Pool thread. I do not know why this type of behavior is allowed in here. It is sad.

I completely agree, H.K. I, personally appreciate the insight you bring to the table, and would prefer to direct this conversation back to KJ. As another poster pointed out, the decision of whether or not to play Jones this week is a very tough decision for many fantasy owners.

Curious about the Charger defensive line missing practice....is that routine for these guys at this point in the season, or do you think there is a chance guys like Castillo and Williams miss this game? We knew about Merriman being out, which should be a positive for Jones owners, but if Williams sits, then I think the decision to start KJ becomes easier.

Actually, I was looking closer at when the Chargers have the ball.... How will that impact the game, and KJ's numbers?eta: Thanks, btw

Lots of Running and possibly lots of 3 and outs?

Seems like LT having a huge workload is a petty safe assumption, right? Also, I would expect him to have a lot of success, too.

I don't think LT getting upwards of 30 carries is a good thing for the Lions, or Jones. Leaning on the run game for the Bolts, won't likely result in a ton of 3 and outs.

Could also mean lots of 8-9 man fronts, add to the fact that there is no Neal...I could see a few more 3 and outs than usual. Even for a Norv Turner team.
