What are the "rules" for a dynasty ranking? (1 Viewer)

There are a lot of dynasty rankings out there these days, but IMO, it's one of the harder things in FF to do "well". There are just so many factors involved in the ranking. Redraft rankings are hard enough with different scoring systems, different starting requirements, etc. But throw in the age factor in a dynasty league, and you'll get 10 different opinions from 10 smart guys on how much of a factor that should be in your "basic" ranking.

I don't think we can eliminate that difference of opinion really. But I often wonder if we could at least get the "perspective" of the guys doing this list before taking in the actual rankings.

For example, for my own "rankings", I would be to lay out the following "assumptions" for my values:

- given league size

- given starting requirements

- given scoring system

- coming from the perspective of a competitive but not dominant team with typical average player age

From there, I say to myself, would I trade player X for player Y even up with my average team of average age, and proceed to the rankings.

Personally, I think that every ranking list should be accompanied by a list of assumptions that list is based on. I often wonder what the FBG dynasty rankings are based on, and if all of the evaluators are basing their rankings on the SAME assumptions.

For example, how much is Reggie Wayne worth? Well, that would depend heavily on the age and quality of the team that is considering acquiring (or moving) him. To an older team in the midst of a season with championship aspirations, he has a LOT more value than to a young or re-building team with few current year aspirations. Somehow, as an evaluator, you have to take the middle road there - at least I think so.

So when I look at a relatively recent ranking for a guy like Josh Gordon for example and see the following guys listed in front of him:

Santana Moss

Randy Moss

Mario Manningham

Davone Bess

Doug Baldwin

Donnie Avery

Nate Washington

It would be really nice to know what the thinking is behind these rankings. Would an average team REALLY trade Josh Gordon for Santana Moss or Randy Moss in a DYNASTY league? The guy is 21 years old, just now starting to adapt to the NFL, and already outperforming many (all?) of the guys listed above. There has got to be something I am missing there. I posted a similar example a while back on D Thomas and how low he was compared to some other guys, and he has since moved up quite a bit.

So if any of the FBG rankings guys (or other guys who do or are interested in rankings for that matter) are around, what are YOUR criteria? Am I missing anything?
