What car did you drive in high school? (1 Viewer)

Owned two of those . . bought one for $150 and the other one 6 months later for the same price.. When one started to break down we used it for parts to keep the other one running.. 2+ years worth of driving for $300 :hifive:
IIRC my dad paid $275 for it and bought a pair of tires. Drove it for a couple of years.

A lot of Pinto, Pacer and Gremlin guys not fessin' up....
Drove mom's car in HS - a Pinto hatchback and a red Maverick with a black landau top - both manual transmission.  I actually bought a light blue Pacer after college - I have no idea why to this day.  I actually liked it - but what a POS, didn't last anyway.

1985 Chrysler New Yorker, hand-me-down from my dad's old company car. I remember thinking it was cool because it had a digital speedometer.

59 GMC Napco -- I's pullin da hunnies. I bought it for $100 without a motor when I was 15. Took two years to get running. Left it in the desert for dead before graduation.

Agreed.  I thought Dentist was a couple years younger than me but I graduated in '94.
No kidding, I pegged dentist for mid 40's. (I'm 40 fwiw)

1984 ford bronco II. Loved that thing.  4wd comes in handy up north in the winter.

Oh yeah, I had an old Pinto hatchback for about 4 months. Rusty as hell and the hatchback lift arm was broken so I had to hold it up and then it would sort of slam shut and a bunch of rust would fall from the car. You could always see a rust outline of where the car was parked whenever I used the hatch.

80s era Schwinn 10-speed, <1 horsepower. I was that kid.

Then just before graduation I got my license and got the keys to Mom's 84 Oldsmobile Ciera, two-toned blue.

I preferred the Schwinn.

99? You're younger than I thought. Significantly
That's the big takeaway from this thread. Pretty shocking.

Oh, and I drove a 1983 Oldmobile Ciera. The Silver Bullet. One hubcap, sagging headliner, random rust spots, slowest car in history. It was a good thing that it didn't have a rearview mirror so that I couldn't see all the people flipping me off for driving too slow.

1978 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon.

AM radio only, one speaker in the dash. paint peeling off the hood, headliner in the back falling apart/missing.

i was not swimming in poon during HS.

I saved up enough money when I was 16 (sophomore) in 1986 and bought a 77 Thunderbird.

Giddy Up,

Tex

My grandfather sold me his '71 Cougar for $500 when I turned 16. It was pea soup green with a peeling white pleather roof and had been parked outside for going on 20 years so it was rusty and looked like hell, but it had a big ol 429 v-8 under the hood that ran really well and was super fun to drive. Won me gas $$$ more than once by smoking newer sports cars -- LOL at your Fiero, guy.

1981 ford Mustang hatchback with a 4cylinder and 4 speed.  am radio with single dash speaker.  had to have the engine replaced and it went thru at least 3 timing belts. oh and it was crap brown in color.

Also drove my mom's 1989 Pontiac Grand Am, because of the issues with the Mustang and well, because it was 'cooler' than that Mustang

We had a 85 Hyundai Excel. One of the first models sold in US. Since it cost only $1.95, we were able to get the tricked out version, real nice interior, sweet cassette stereo. Only problem was when you put your foot to the floor, it took the hamsters a couple minutes to get the engine going. Nice car for your teenage guys to be driving I guess.

Friend had a '77 Buick Electra, the Buick version of the Cadillac Fleetwood. It was 221 in long, with a 350 engine; measured mileage in gallons per mile, but man could that puppy move!!

Another had a '70 Olds with a 455. It was a 2 door that when you sat in the back seat, you couldn't touch the back of the front seat.

1980 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham.  Loved that car but it was a POS.  My parents bought it for my brother and me to share.  They were just looking for something cheap and didn't do a lot of research.  Thing was stored in the guys hard sitting on tall grass for an extended period of time, which resulted in the undercarriage to be rusted out.  One day my dad needed to tow a trailer so he used this car instead of his own.  Pulled the bumper right off as the metal frame holding the bumper on just disintegrated.  From that day on, you could just pull half the bumped off, and kids would do that to me occasionally during the day at school.  I'd just set it back in place.

Had a powerless 260 V-8, but it was probably for the best because I likely would be dead if it had any power.

I had an 86 Hyundai Excel (standard tranny) with a different color replacement door.  I absolutely beat the crap outta that car.  It finally died when I was driving just off of campus and I left it there.  I never saw it again.

Had two cars.

First one was a beast up POS 1974 Camaro with a 305 Double Barrel V8 that ran on leaded fuel. The car had no A/C, a POS stereo and a headliner stapled to the roof. Pure piece of junk that was fast as a MoFo. Great car to learn on. It was rusted out and in horrible shape. My uncle sold it to me for $400 bucks. I thought I was getting a steal. It got about 8 miles to the gallon.

After a year proving to my dad I could drive responsibly he bought me a used 1984 Chevy Cavalier Type 10 two door coupe (for about 3K which I paid half of from my own savings). A decent little car that took me through 11th and 12th grade. This one had a cassette player. So I was in mixed tape heaven. Power windows and locks. Now we are talking LOL.

My dream car back then was like most guys. A 1986 Chevy IROC Camaro with the Tuned Port Injection. Black with gold trim. But it was never to be.

Class of 1988

Started off with my mom's Ford Festiva then bought my own 76 Nova.  Poop brown with a dent in the side.  But whatever, I wasn't walking.

'76 El Camino. It was actually a pretty decent HS vehicle.  Blew a head gasket on a college preview trip.  Water pump failed and I didn't catch it in time.
