What criteria do you take into consideration... (1 Viewer)

Rather than turn this into a debate better suited for the AC forum, I won't list any specifics on this. I'd like opinions from you all on what criteria you take into consideration when deciding between two very equally ranked WRs.

What does it for you? So far, here's a few that I consider...

- QB throwing him the ball

- Has QB situation changed?

- Is QB in question at risk of losing job?

- # of targets. Catch % of those targets

- Strengh of running game

Of course I could name more, but what do you guys really take into consideration, that gives one player the edge over another?

Targets.Simply put, Peyton Manning could be the QB but if he's always looking at and throwing to other WRs, so what? Your WR only gets points when HE gets the ball. Jake Delhomme is a serviceable QB, but the thing that makes Steve Smith's numbers so awesome is that they get him the ball so often. On the QB change thing - didn't seem to hurt Gates much this past year (or T.O.)

If they're that close, it's usually small things. Gut feeling. Health issues, especially nagging ones, (ie Holt's knee). Performance down the stretch last year. TDs scored (ie targeted in the red-zone).

Health concerns and poor second half swayed me away from Holt this year.

Few TDs historically and QB changed swayed me away from AJ in favor of someone else.

Size: who is the red zone target?

Speed: Can he create his own space or is he more of a possession type WR?

Age: Go with the 28 year old as opposed to the 32 year old.

Counterparts: Does the guy have someone who will help draw off the double team?

It's usually minor things that sway me one way or the other. However, if all things are mostly equal, I'll take the player I enjoy watching.

I never have any eaqually ranked player by draft time as i rank in the tiers as well but pre draft if I have two the same i look at:

5 year consistancy rate for yards, TD's, TD per game percentage and multiple TD per game percentage. What percentage of total touches on his team he had. Then playoff schedule (not who but where is it, home or not), age, who's offensive unit had the better or worse off season and lastly the offensive system in terms of pass VS rush attempts. By then i generally have a very clear winner one way or the other. I basically do that for each WR tier come up with rankings and start drafting.
