What did we learn? (1 Viewer)

One of the more beneficial posts that I found last year was the "What did we learn" series. I thought that I would kick the week 1 edition off.

I'll throw out a few things about my home team:

1. Chicago will utilitze a RRBC all season. It will be a 65/35 split, Benson owners beware. I realize that Peterson did have a costly fumble today, but I can not deny that he ran hard and should and will get 8-12 touches per game.

2. Tommy Harris is the most important player on the Bears defense. Hands down. Urlacher may get the pub, but this defense goes no where without Harris.

3. Mike Brown has an injury target on his back. On the field, he's great, problem is he spends way too much time on the sidelines.

4. Grossman is ulimate risk reward QB.

5. Berrian can be a great #2 WR this seaon IF Grossman can get him the ball. He's matured a lot and it shows on the field.

What you got?

I learned that I shouldn't have let all the people saying that AD wouldn't carry the load his first game as a NFL player influence my lineup decisions. I can't believe I started the Deuce-Bag over him!

I've learned that studs hate the preseaon, fake injuries to avoid it, then come out and produce like they're supposed to.

I've also learned to forget these stupid %'s that players play at.

Unless they're in the business of predicting injuries, they would have been correct :goodposting:

I have learned that:

- ADP is indeed a stud

- Portis is indeed a stud. I drafted him in 3 leagues so I am thrilled....against a tough Miami D, he did fairly well. I cannot wait until he plays pansy Ds

- Sjax was over-rated like I thought

- Larry Johnson will suffer thanks to that entire O....

- Bears D is hands down the best in the league....Bears should be in SB barring no major injuries (none of the other NFC teams are even close)

- Randy Moss was under-rated

- KC will stink all year as a team

1. If possible bench any RB playing against the BEARS

2. David Garrard is a good QB - The Jags made the right choice.

3. Peterson might be better than Benson. Not that it seems to matter with the Bears, Benson will be the guy until injury.

4. The Chiefs offense might take awhile to come around. I think this is because of LJ's holdout and also the turmoil at QB deciding between Brodie and Huard. Also it does not help that Herm is the coach.

Aside from SJax, I pretty much agree. SD D is close to CHI D. Mario Williams might just validate his pick.Pittsburgh will score muy points this yearRon Curry is a studJay likes Javon afterall

I learned that the O-line in Houston aint as bad as everyone seems to think. (Even though I've already known this)

AJ just might be a top 3 wr this year.

KC... all i can say is WOW.

ADP is a bonafide STUD.

People just really dont like R. Moss and they let it influence their assessment of him.

Tampa still doesnt have any type of Identity. (how does gruden still have a job?) MY GAWD!!! how bad do they have to get?

Ive learned that NFL.com has totally screwed up their live scoring and stats feature. :bag:
As a Fiefox user it's 100% better than last year. Used to freeze on me all the time but today went off without a hitch until this game. It seems to be stuck right at Buress' TD. Otherwise it was fast, accurate and I really like it.Not happy about it freezing on this game though.

Without Caddy we'll soon see. I think he was wearing a rib protector but he took a full speed helmet from Tatupu. Even if it's just a bone bruise it's going to affect him for quite awhile.

Funny, I'm a firefox user and last year the interface was great...I had tabs open to every game and they all worked well with no crashing...tried to do that today and after the browser shot to 500MB of memory consumption it pegged my CPU at 100% and the browser stopped reacting to mouse activity entirely...I couldn't run more than 3 tabs and even then updates were flakey at best...old interface B+, new interface D[/hijack]

I learned that figuring out which WR#'s 2 and 3 to start can be a complete cr*pshoot. I had forgotten this aggravation from previous years but today I was reminded of this again.

Yea bench points... :bag:

Last year NFL.com was run by cbssportsline and was the most reliable live stat tracker around. Amazingly enough, CBS's gamecenter doesn't have quite as pretty graphics as NFL.com this year, but it still seems to work.
Good Call. CBS Sportsline's scoreboard looks exactly like NFL.Com last year! No sweet graphics like nfl.com, but a much more usable display and easier to keep track of your fantasy guys. From now on, I'll be using that site to supplement my TV viewing

The ole black and blue division is back.

Minnesota played an amazingly weak team but their d looked great. They missed on some deep ball-homerun situations as well that would have made the score much worse.

Detriot's offense will keep them very competitive and the d is underrated.

Chicago won't face SD every week.

GB's D looks strong as well. I was disappointed in Philly but maybe GB is that good :wall:

All the teams in that division looked suprisingly strong this week, some big defensive improvements. Detroit could be a suprise team, although stronger competition may prove me wrong. I liked what I saw in the first week. Houston looks like a team that has put things together, albeit against piss-poor competition.

Roy Williams was over valued. Calvin and the other wrs are going to suck off a lot of receptions.

Maybe, I didn't learn that today. Their defense is indeed very good but I don't think their offense is even as good as last year.Losing Thomas Jones was a bad thing.

Learned? I'm not sure I learned anything but some observations:

1) Big Ben = ooooooohhhhh - he makes me quiver

2) HBO couldn't have picked a better team to profile than KC - what a train wreck - Herm Edwards is WAY overrated

3) Colts are what we thought they were- unbelievable!

4) Titans have a good running game - period - regardless of who's go the ball

5) I still don't know the WRs of the Jags

6) Did Greg Jennings play? If so, Brett Favre really hates him

7) Chargers have a Tenacious D

8) Michael Turner is STILL a stunt ####

So far, i "learned" what i already thought:

Waited to draft a QB til late because i had Big Ben in my top 5, and knew i could get him late in each draft.

Taking Addai with the 1.3 pick looks like the right decision right now.

Having Andre Johnson and Jason Witten in the top 5 at their respective positions looks good as well.

Last but not least, drafted and started the Vikings in 3 of my 4 redrafts.

Of course there were a couple things that dont look that bright at this point, but i will wait for those to pan out before i point them out. :(

-Start any DEF against KC, my Chiefs may set a record for offensive futility

-The Chiefs DEF actually maybe a decent fantasy option

-Plaxico Burress may end the year as a top 10 WR

-Travis Henry was not overvalued

-Fred Taylor looks slow and with one step in the productive-RB grave

-Big Ben will be money this season; the chemistry with Holmes is definitely there

-Calvin Johnson may have been UNDERRATED if that is possible

-Despite getting injured, Caddy Williams, looked like a rejuvenated back. He may have been undervalued

-Marcus Pollard may have been undervalued - could finish in the top10-12 at TE.

That is stream of consciousness from me from what i saw today so far.

Seriously, I had two games open and it was freezing me up horribly. I switched to CBS midway

Is this the same Thomas Jones that sucked today? Ok.....because I am sure playing against one of the best run Ds in the league (Chargers) had nothing to do with Benson not being as good as you might have thought him to be

From a fantasy perspective, the NE backfield situation is a mess.
:bag: They were up a lot so whats the point in handing the rock to Maroney anything more than the 20 times they did? He didn't see a lot of preseason action and they need him to last the entire year.

That St. Louis's offensive jugernaut is run by an imbecile (seriously, is there any other team who so quickly gives up on the run?) Down 4 going into the 4th quarter and you only give Jackson 1 rushing attempt the whole quarter????

FYI Linehan, Bulger will NOT win you games.

Same thing as last year, hopefully they get their heads out of their a## soon, like they did last year and utilize the talent (Jackson) like they should.

I learned that the people on this board hype the picks that they have. iF they didn't have picks 1,2 or 3 they were trying to convince that James Jones would have a better year than Calvin Johnson. :goodposting:

I even had a guy try to convince me that Lynch was better than ADP.

When Randy Moss is a happy camper he is one of the best WRs in the entire league. (5 leagues, 0 own Moss). The guy looked fantastic.

I learned that when your favorite team's starting QB,RB and DE go down, no amount of pepto bismal is gonna stop the heartburn

I learned that i could have gotten Plaxico and Kitna for DeAngelo WIlliams and did nt pull the trigger , guess what i lost week 1 but would have won with those two.

Ill take it with a grain of salt and say there always week 2.

I learned it wasn't Opening Sunday in the Shark Pool, so much as Overreaction Sunday
Agreed. I learned that people still tend to overreact after one week. I don't have the inclination, but perhaps we should bump last year's "what did we learn" thread and see how things changed by year-end.

I learned that I was probably very wrong about Tony Romo and Randy Moss.

I learned that I was right about the Chiefs, Giants, and the Vikings defense.

I learned that figuring out which WR#'s 2 and 3 to start can be a complete cr*pshoot. I had forgotten this aggravation from previous years but today I was reminded of this again. Yea bench points... :goodposting:
That is why I like to get two stud WR's. I would rather try to fill in at 2nd RB than at second WR. 2nd WR production is way more erratic than 2nd RB production is. Having Smith and R. Williams I will never have to guess, and I think I will be more than OK with Portis as my second RB. This year it is QB production that I am concerned about, being stuck with my 10th choice V. Young. I was hoping to snag Kitna or Romo in the 6th or 7th, but they were both gone.

That Mario Williams will be vastly improved from his injury wrecked rookie season and may show the Texans as justified in taking him #1 overall last year.

I'm learning to be happy when my favorite teams win (Redskins, Panthers) even if several of my FF teams don't. That's a nice change from last year. I've also learned that for whatever reason, I almost ALWAYS lose more FF games during week 1 than I do just about any week of the year. Seriously.
