I merged onto the highway today and was in the slow (right) lane as you might expect. It was fairly busy and there was a car in the middle lane traveling faster than me. Rather than pull out in front of him and cut him off, I put on my signal and let him pass. The guy who had merged onto the highway behind me, and who was following me pulled into the middle land and sped up behind the other car before I had a chance to change lanes.

**** move or normal driving?

I like to go as fast as possible. Every ####### in front of me delays this. The more cars I can get out of my way, the more open read ahead.

Depends if someone was in front of you. If yes, **** move.

Forgot to mention that. Yes, there was a car in front of me.

pretty sure as that guy was passing you with your blinker on, he was shouting "GOT EEM!!!"

Okay, I change my vote under this pretense. If he has a shot at open road, he has every right to take it.

I'll add this caveat - If he has open road in front, doesn't let Chet in, and takes off leaving Chet in the dust - I see this as fair. If he pulls this and Chet than wants to pass, the guy is a ##### who doesn't know how to drive.

how is he supposed to know that Chet drives like its formula one?

No, but he should know his own driving intentions. If he usually travels at a high rate of speed, he knows there is a very strong chance he'll be moving faster.

still a large range there. he could be going 75 which is say 10 over and would be considered a reasonably high rate of speed and then you have our boy chet approaching the century mark.

Then he moves over... I drive fast when I'm by myself in the car - nothing annoys me more than an ####### in a passing lane that refuses to move over... If I have a shot at open road, I take it, if someone is going faster, I move over, and then follow them as the lead.

Of course, the guy who cut him off driving a VW Jetta is chuckling this afternoon still at how he stuck it to the man driving a Mercedes AMG GT or whatever chet rides in now.

you brohans are living for your cars man and that is no way to live take that to the bank brohans

Need more info.

1) Did he also use his turn signal before moving into that lane, and was it possible that he actually turned on his signal before you did yours, in effect claiming the open spot first? If so, not really a #### move, IMO.

2) Assuming he didn't, was this all quick enough after the merge that, if you signaled from the merge into your current lane, he thought you might just not have turned off your signal yet? Probably still a #### move, but forgivable, I guess.

3) In my initial reading, I assumed neither of the above - that you signaled first and it was obviously a separate signal so your intentions were clear. **** move, in that case.

It's similar to when there's a line of cars that pull over for an ambulance, and once it has cleared, some **** invariably tries to beat the person in front of them back into line when everyone is obviously intending to move back into the original lane.

your problem was signaling for such a long time. He probably thought you forgot to turn off your blinker.

Did the 2nd guy get in your way or did he zoom right past you behind the 1st guy?

I always apply this principle when driving: if they don't make me change my speed or lane, people can do whatever they want.

This happens most often when someone appears to pull in front of you but then slams on the gas and doesn't make you slow down. Fine with me.

you don't specify whether your lane was ending, so I'll assume it wasn't. If not, it's normal driving as you have plenty of space before you need to get over.

Normal driving. 99% chance that dude had no idea what you were doing. Don't take it personal.
The turn signal was probably a pretty big clue as to what our hero's intention was.

**** move by the other driver, but pretty much the norm today.

Either way it isn't anything to get bunged up about.

Not even worth starting a thread about.
Well it's too late for that now, isn't it?

**** move.

Was almost certain you were going to describe one of my favorites: heavy highway traffic and right lane moving slowly, so someone in the right lane pulls onto the on ramp and pretends they're just entering the highway.

I've used this in a hurry. I don't claim to be a non **** driver though.

Damn. Got me there. You really are a lawyer, aren't you?

**** move only because you had your signal on. If you hadn't then it would've been completely normal and acceptable.

you guys who get mad about this stuff should listen to poisons 1990 super hit something to believe in one maybe you will find something to believe in other than driving and two if you want something to get mad about how bad poison sucks is a much better thing to get pissed about than some guy passing you and that is one to grow on take that to the bank brohans

If no other cars around, not a big deal.

If lots of cars around as you say, seems pretty stupid and dangerous of the other idiot.

How? The car in the left lane clears him before it clears the guy in front of him. So he has an open lane to merge into. Hardly dangerous.

Every single driver on the road other than me is a raging ****, got their license out of a gumball machine, deserves to be run off the road and into a ditch, etc.

Ok wait, that other driver pulled into the MIDDLE lane. I thought he did it in the first available lane, but the OP was in the furthest lane to the right, and the lane wasnt ending. It doesnt sound like the guy merged, sounds like he was just changing lanes after he merged.

I think I read it wrong.

Still not the brightest idea for the guy to change lanes and speed up when the car in front of him had the left blinker on, although it would be the OPs fault if he moved left and hit the guy.

Meh, seems pretty to be pretty normal driving.

i drive by the homeless sleepin on a darken street like bodies in a open grave underneath the broken old neon sign that used to read jesus saves rotortom rototom bomp bomp bomp brohans read it again and take that to the bank

If Chet didn't have on his turning signal then I would agree, but it appears he did and the guy didn't see/care.

I try to drive so as not to piss people off but I know I'm generally the #### because I'm driving above the speed limit whenever possible. I also use the car pool lane as my personal passing lane if you're driving slow and there's no other way around..
