12 team points league, keep 8 major and 2 minor leaguers.
I've been offered picks 2.02 and 3.11 for David Ortiz (I already own this teams' 1.11 and 6.02 selections, I traded Smoltz at the deadline to him). With the keepers involved, these are basically 10th/11th round picks or so. If I do this, I would have 10 out of the first 70 picks in this draft (I already have 1.03, 1.11, 2.10, 3.03, 4.10, 5.03, 6.02, 6.10, etc). Ortiz is just a Util/DH player in this league.
My keepers without Ortiz would be:
Pedroia 2b
Tejada ss
Braun 3b
Granderson of
Rios of
Francouer of
Willis sp
Felix Hernandez sp
Maybin of (my minor keeper)
Wood 3b (my minor keeper)
(just left off would be Snell and Delgado)
You start one at each position, plus a Util, 5sp and 2rp. My holes would be at 1b, c, util (getting rid of Ortiz makes my lineup more flexible for a hot bat in this spot), SP's and RP's, then minor leaguers.
I do this because I can protect both Pedroia/Tejada, open up my Util spot, and load up on leftover bats and arms with 10 out of 70 picks. Hopefully this turns into a very deep team where trading 2 or 3 for 1's could be huge during the season.
I don't do this because there is no way Ortiz is worth a 10th and 11th round pick, but I already have this dude's 1st (9th) and 6th (14th) rounders.
Do you do this? Why or why not?
