What do you think of this trade? (1 Viewer)

I own Shields. Seems like a no-brainer at first, but for some reason I'm hesitating. Am I over-thinking it?

I could use some steals and I have a spot for Crawford which is currently occupied by DeJesus (formerly Nady).

I like Shields a lot - he helped me win last year. I've tanked saves, so strong SPs top to bottom is very important for me. I need to finish top three in the four other 5x5 categories. If I lose Shields, his spot would be filled by guys like Millwood, Baker, Perkins, Kuroda & Bush depending on match-ups and health.

We start 10 pitchers. In addition to those listed above, I have Vazquez, Lowe, Myers, Meche, Maholm, Danks and Braden.

Any advice?

This should be a no-brainer and I'm a huge fan of Shields.

Always take a batter with stud potential over a pitcher with the same potential.

Almost any pitching deficiencies you may have on your team can be made up by doing the research and streaming guys in ideal situations through the season. Every week there is some nobody on the waivers that has a dream week ahead of him rather it be by playing for a hot team, playing it pitcher's parks, playing at home, another pitcher being injured, or a closer's job lost.

You're not going to be able to find a guy with that kind of steals and run potential hitting out of the #2 hole in a top 5 offense ever on waivers.

I don't know that it's a no brainer either way. I just fear for you a little bit, strategically.

If you tanked saves, and need offensive help, I'd like to believe you're loaded at SP. But not the case. Lot of mid-level talent, but not a top 20 guy there, IMO. And I'm thinking w/o Shields, your chances of meeting your goal of top 3 in three P categories is a pipe dream.

How's the rest of your O look?

All things being even, I take Crawford over Shields every time. But here, I'm not sure all else is even.

I won with the tanking saves strategy last year, so I thought I'd try it again. Rollins, Youk, B Roberts, C Lee, Hart, Holliday, Hamilton are the big names on offense. It should be very solid as long as Hamilton and Holliday start to hit But the steals aren't coming as quickly as I'd like. I'm thinking that Holliday and Hart might not get the same SB numbers as last year, so I'll need a boost there. The consensus here is that I should take Crawford and run, as I expected. That's what I'll do. Just a little more work for me during the season trying to get the right pitching match-up in the Shields slot. Thanks

The consensus? or the consensus you would like? Not trying to be an a**, but Shields is your best pitcher and Crawford would not be your best hitter True there is a big SB differential between Crawford and DeJesus (but just as big a differential in Shields vs X unless you can guess right every week which no one can)Crawford has five steals so far - sure five more than DeJesus, but not a TON, and IMO the real questions are not your other top hitters (only one of which is a SB guy) but who the REST of your team is and whether there is a better SB option at a different position that wouldn't cost you as much in pitching - whether from FA pile or via trade.
