The lightning strike that knocked out a chunk of concrete I was referring to, was under a basketball hoop. The lightning hit the hoop, and blew the chunknout underneath.

I suppose the lightning could have hit the tree, and did something similar underneath.
Wouldn't it be pretty obvious if it hit the tree though?

Righetti dance off was out of control
Looks like kids were playing with your rocks.....Vandalism - that is a stretch.
They would have to be like grown adults. Too heavy for "kids" imo.
Teenagers
Why though? Seems like a weird thing to vandalize and a weird way to vandalize it. Hey let's go over and take apart that stranger's rock garden?

I guess teenagers are stupid. But there have to be about a zillion cooler things to vandalize. It's almost like "hey let's go kick a tree."

Andy Dufresne:

[in a letter] Dear Red, If you're reading this, you've gotten out. And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further. You remember the name of the town, don't you? I could use a good man to help me get my project on wheels. I'll keep an eye out for you and the chessboard ready. Remember, Red. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. I will be hoping that this letter finds you, and finds you well. Your friend, Andy.

To move the boulders out and no foot prints on the dirt area, it would have to be more than one person or big foot.

A local contractor trying to setup for a new job. You'll get a knock on the door soon to suggest he either put it all back nice for you and plant some flowers while he's there, or replace and upgrade those rocks. Either way, quote will be $5K.

Jesus. I don't even know what to say. I remember people who pooped on other people's rocks because it was not their property and because they could.

There aren't any reasons, there's just a mob mentality sometimes.

I'm just looking out the window and note that this is under a streetlight, and therefore one of the brightest parts of the property, and easily seen by all the neighbors. And in that planting bed is an address sign that is untouched, along with a small spotlight for uplighting the tree that is also untouched. Makes the vandalism theory seem even less likely to me.

So what's your theory, Sir Isaac?

lol for calling the cops on this.

Crazy kids these days.

On warm summer days we used to pick up sprinklers that were on, open the front screen door and toss them into people's living rooms.

The tree had an errand to run and knocked over the stones on the way out. Having no hands, the tre couldn't replace the stones when it got back.

Drunk guy hopped the curb in his car. The sprinklers must have run early that morning, causing the grass to raise back up and look normal, basically destroying any evidence. If the car wasn't parked there for a long time, and if he didn't peel out trying to get away, it might not leave much or an imprint at all.

I'm guessing the rocks aren't as heavy as you think they are. Maybe for a middle aged, out of shape lawyer, they're heavy.

But not for everybody else.

And that bare, unwelcoming "flower bed" is in the front of your house, easily visible? WTH does Mrs. Oats do all day? Wait, wait, she takes care of two kids.

I'm guessing some long dormant egg, possibly alien, possibly a chupacabra, finally incubated and the critter forced its way out from underground. It is undoubtedly still around your property looking for its first meal or two before it is strong enough to move on and terrorize your city. I suggest you do not sit outside after dark enjoying a nice cigar. If you do all that will be left of you is your wedding ring, shoes, and belt buckle. Exercise caution instead of exercising your body. BTW, chupacabras do not like attacking folks who smell of almonds and dark chocolate. Your best defense is finishing off that jar of almonds you have been working..

BTW, before Otis points out that there is no alien pod or chupacabra egg shell left behind, I would point out that it is well known that each eats their birthing chamber. In fact, I would argue that the lack of evidence of such is perhaps the best evidence that this is indeed what happened.

If a car hit it that hard it would seem there should be some evidence like scrape marks or paint chips on the rocks. I wouldn't think the tire tracks would disappear that quickly if a car was going that fast to hop a curb and damage the wall.

I think it's a buddy messing with you.

I haven't picked up the rocks to examine them closely. I will do that this weekend.

Side question -- insurance claim on this? I could probably slap on some mortar and restack the stones, but I have a little masonry work I want to have done in the yard anyway, maybe this is an excuse to get a guy in and have it done right.

What about a meteorite? There could be a quarter million dollar moon rock under there still.

Aerial shot of the scene from the house. You can't see the wall knocked down as well here, but it's a better shot of the overall surroundings. There is the street light near the curb towards the right. This area is well lit during the night. Note also, while I mentioned there was one rock thrown towards the house, about in the middle of the lawn, I have since moved it back with the rest.

  1. Aerial shot: A shot taken from a plane, helicopter or a person on top of a building. Not necessarily a moving shot. The main source of light is behind the subject, silhouetting it, and directed toward the camera.

Fat shaming.

One of the guys who bet on you over woz knocked it over to give you a little more exercise.
