WHAT happened to Thomas Jones? (1 Viewer)

For those with a week 17 title game, would it be reasonable to suggest that A-Pete could be worth a WW pickup? They should run all over the Packers in the final game at home, and Benson even figures to be rested a bit.
I think that is a stretch and would hope you have much better options.Any "garbage" time carries, even in this senario, I think would fully go to Benson.
How do you explain the APete TD last night? I would have bet anything that Benson would have gotten the call there.
I can't explain it ... dunno if anyone really can.My best guess is that Lovie wanted to spread the love to all his backs. Both of his primary backs have been very successful lately, and perhaps he didn't want to ignore his 3rd stringer (who is actually quite good) that works hard every day in practice, and had a 20 or 30 yd reception earlier that contributed to that drive.
Pretty much my thinking. Lovie threw him a bone, that's all.
Huh. I figured Lovie put Peterson in to give him some reps, since he's going to be the #2 behind Benson next year. Makes perfect sense to test out Peterson some more before trading Jones in the offseason.

All this talk about Lovie "resting" his #1 RB. Lovie sure didn't "rest" his #1 QB, his #1 WR's, his all world MLB, etc - all who played the entire game..

Here's a question.

We haven't seen Peterson much all season. Now with Cedric getting more carries, Peterson gets 3rd downs.

What does that say for Benson next year as a prospect, or even the tail end of this year? If Jones is somehow out of the picture (bear with me Jones backers), is Benson only an 1st & 2nd down back? Can he catch and pass protect?

Curious, because as a dynasty owner of Jones and Benson (and Peterson not available) this might suck if he was not a 3 down back...

They already know what they have in Peterson.

Anyone catch what John Clayton said on Inside the Huddle this morning on Sportscenter?

His first topic was Jones/Benson. I missed most of it and only caught the tail end.

KFFL has reported T. Jones as questionable:

Bears | Jones questionable for Week 15

Wed, 13 Dec 2006 11:29:43 -0800

Chicago Bears RB Thomas Jones (ankle) is questionable for the team's Week 15 game.

Hopefully they go ahead and let Jones sit this one out to repair. Finally, justification for keeping them both on the roster all season.

Time for Cedric to shine!

Benson: 120 yards and 3 TDs

 I am so torn right now. On the one hand, I ate crow all year from the "I TOLD YOU SO" Jones backers, when T.J. remained the starter. On the other hand, those people were right on the money.... and I kind of feel bad for them if they don't get to use Jones this week.

The main reason I kept the faith in Benson is because the Bears figured to be very, very good, and you had to assume that Benson would get some meaningful carries during fantasy playoff time.

ETA that if they were playing a good team in a MUST-WIN situation, I suspect that Jones would not even be on the injury report. Or "probable" perhaps.

If he sits, I will have to trade my Chevy (TJ) for a Cadillac-ac-ac-ac. That would be brutal! (For you young pups, see Billy Joel.) Sorry, I know it was lame. :bag:

If that's movin' up, then you'll be MOVIN' OUT....of the playoffs. ;)

Don't fret. Caddy should get 10 or 12 total yards.

For anyone that is interested, I started a thread that is strictly "Who should I start between Jones and Benson?" in the AC so as not bore anyone with the details of my own team

As an owner of both...I'm encouraged by the "questionable" tag, that Benson will be the starter.

I'm curious though why not probable? Seeing as it was reported as a minor tweak.

I'm in the same situation.... both on my roster. I just wish they would decide one over the other. Starting T.J. and seeing Benson in the game stealing play-after-play was not good for my blood pressure!!I think Benson is the better play this week, as far as the Bears are concerned. Fantasy wise, I could go either way, just not equal carries. For me, playing against Brees and L.T. this week is not the time to be waffling back-and-forth on my #2 RB....... also keep in mind this report was from KFFL, not sure how reliable. The published IR is not out yet. It could very easily be T.J. probable...

I'm looking at playing Benson over Jones this week too, but would love to get Grid's view on this.

Gridiron ASSassin, where are you? :excited:

Jones' pain may be Benson's gain

The Bears have talked about giving Cedric Benson additional carries this season. Benson's play, with an average of more than 4 yards per carry in four of the last five games, is dictating some of that. Fate also is doing some play-calling.

Thomas Jones injured his ankle late in the victory in St. Louis and did not play after his season-long 30-yard run for a touchdown on the Bears' first possession of the third quarter. He was at Halas Hall for treatment Wednesday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.

Jones has started every game this season and was on the injury list last week with a groin strain.

"Hopefully, he'll be OK," coach Lovie Smith said.
