What I learned from this years drafts (1 Viewer)

I got snookered into employing a preset strategy for my money league this year. 11th pick Drafted RB RB WR WR WR

I should have had Gates in the third or fourth. Also, took Maroney in the second.

ya, you should never go into any preset ideas. You can have a plan but you always have to be flexible and adapt to what is going on around you...

I always have a wish list before going into the draft. This is if everything went my way who I would take in any given round. Then I mock out every scenerio for each round and assume that my guy is not there and then mock it from there on. This year I wanted Gates in round 4. He was there so I followed my scenerio for that the rest of the way. In round two my guy was not there so I went to my scenerio for that. I ended up with FWP, Portis, Roy Wiliams and then Gates as my first 4. Doing just fine so far thank you with a 2-0 start.

Yeah, I bought into the "five good QBs" theory this year and took two early (4th and 5th rounds) when I usually go by QBBC. With Bulger and Brees in my lineups and a weaker WR2 (I lost out on the Andre Johnsons and Randy Moss'), I am absolutely getting smoked. I am in three leagues and on paper I look decent, but I have started out 0-6

What I learned from this years draft...

For the first time in years, had the 12th pick. When someone jumped up and yelled Henry's name early, I decided to try out the "stud WR" theory from the 12 spot. I won't turn this into a "look who I drafted" piece, so let me just say that it's been the best draft I've ever put together. Well, two weeks into the season anyway, :fingerscrossed:

What I learned, never be afraid to go against the grain.

Best advice is don't try to jump on the next big thing. You have to draft consistent players in the first couple rounds. I really wish though I would have taken a chance on Moss.

I find my problems usually do not lie with draft strategy but with player scouting. Sometimes those guys just don't perform up to expectations.

Best advice I've realized since leagues went from standard 2 WR starters to 3 WR starters, is take a stud WR with your second pick (unless it's a keeper and you get a top 3 pick). I can't believe how overrated RB's are in fantasy leagues, especially with the move to RBBC by so many teams now. I grabbed FWP late in the first round, followed by S. Smith, A. Johnson, C. Palmer and A. Gates and they've been producing big. There are tons of decent receivers, but few studs (consistent 100 yd games and a touch). I highly advise in future drafts a strategy of RB/WR and then the best RB or WR for the next 2 rounds. It doesn't matter where your points come from as long as you have the guys to put up big games. I laugh at those that draft RB/RB/RB and then are stuck with Lee Evans as your #1 WR and have the dilemna of who to start, S. Moss, V. Jackson, or L. Coles throughout the year. Call it the Colston/Boldin theory where a #1 WR will emerge off the waiver wire in week 1, but I even capitalized on that when someone grabbed R. Curry and dropped J. Cotchery. He's not a #1, but with AJ hurt, he'll step in nicely at my #3 WR spot....

I went RB/RB WR WR WR TE QB and I dont regret a thing. I cant see all the regret about Randy Moss, its only been two games and the recievers going around him were also pretty solid. TJ Housh, Andre Johnson, Plaxico! I mean, Moss was anything but a sure bet. I think most people are obviously regretting passing on C. Portis and going for a R.Bush/MJD/Ronnie Brown/Maroney-- but that too can change quickly.

I find my problems usually do not lie with draft strategy but with player scouting. Sometimes those guys just don't perform up to expectations.

Study on who picks what position in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round for next year. I noticed QBs go way early in the 2nd and 3rd for me and TE don't go until the 7th...
