What is Stallworth's contract status? (1 Viewer)

He becomes a FA after this season (not sure if the Birds will tag him), however if the Eagles do sign him to a multi year deal they must send a 3rd round pick to the Saints.

Man, it would have been nice to know this before I traded Driver for him in my dynasty league. Thought the McNabb to Stallworth combo would be productive for a few years. If he goes somewhere else, his value plummets.

Driver's value is going to plummet next year, regardless.

Eagles | Team unlikely to re-sign Stallworth before free agency starts

Reuben Frank, of PhillyBurbs.com, reports Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert said the team is unlikely to re-sign WR Donte' Stallworth before free agency starts. Heckert said, "If he's healthy, he's a really good player. I think that will be kind of a wait-and-see deal because I don't think even he knows what he's worth. Getting him done before free agency, that's probably not going to happen. There's not a whole lot of wide receivers out there. It's tough to gauge. When he's healthy, he's a good player. People are going to say the same thing — if he's injured (often), how much are you going to pay him? But he's young and he's fast. He's really fast. I think he'll probably end up signing a pretty good contract somewhere. If you look at last year, those (2006 free agents) got huge money and they were just OK guys."

Sure sounds like the team plans to stick with its fiscally conservative ways, and is set to move on without him.

Jeff, that link is valuable to know about. The link may be pinned-worthy.

How else you expect the Eagles to remain $12mil under the cap year after year? Hard to argue with a system that has provided so many championships. <disgruntled Eagles fan>

agreed... those last two sentences were prety telling...also the... if he's healthy, he's a good player refrain & recurring theme... too bad, because i thing stallworth is better with PHI, & PHI is better with stallworth...

Not quite. If the Eagles sign him before FA starts, they must pony up the 3rd round pick. After FA starts, even if the Eagles re-sign him, it's only a 4th round pick.

I wonder (read: hope) if this is a ploy to negotiate a cheaper contract with Stallworth. Lower his expectations so that when the Eagles throw out a mediocre offer, it seems decent. I think Stallworth would love to stay in Philly and might accept a less a Mil or two less to do so.

unless it is a relatively small difference, i think he would take the most guaranteed money... he was picked between 15-20 i think & couldn't have had a monster rookie contract (not to mention if there were incentives, he might not have made them as he missed so many games in a few seasons)... this will be his first (& maybe only) chance to secure a big money contract...

the tone of the quote seemed to suggest they expect there to be a sizeable discrepancy between what eagles can justify & what they expect market will bear in a very lean year for FA WRs (& skill position players in general)... its unclear if they even want to pay what WAS gave randle-el & lloyd, & he is arguably better...

BINGO.The Eagles are posturing like they do every year with their pending free agents. I will actually be shocked if the Eagles do not sign him.

As noted, Stallworth is likely going to benefit from a weak FA crop of WRs. Same happened with Plaxico last year, when there weren't a lot of options out there. IMO, Stallworth's upside will likely be attractive to a WR hungry team, and will price him out of Philly's desired range.

Couldn't of said it better myself. So long

The Titans have expressed an interest, and they are an amazing $40Mil projected under the cap.

Trenton Times
that would be a nice fantasy location for Stallworth.
I think Stallworth makes the Eagles a much better team. Even if it costs them a 3rd round pick instead of a 4th, I think they should re-sign him before he gets on the open market. They've got a bit of leverage now. He had some injury problems again and could probably get him for a little less than market value. The problem is if he becomes a free agent, it only takes one team to be willing to over pay and he's gone.

Offer him #1 WR money and get him signed on.
