What is the best mattress? (1 Viewer)

After so many responses, this had to have been covered, but I will say it as well.

Mattress's are HIGHLY negotiable(in mattress stores anyway). Notice how mattress stores always have a sale going on? It is commission based sales.

Also, all the mattress stores get their mattress's from the same places. However, each chain of stores renames each model so they can say they 'exclusively' carry X model of X brand. Look for the spring count and what the springs are made of. That way you can go to another store and compare prices. One store will have this fancy names model, but you won't be able to find it at another store. This is on purpose so it is very difficult to comparison shop.
Good stuff. Wife and I are in the market for a new mattress and see all the early BF deals starting. We'll probably check out a couple places. I think this will be the year we splurge on comfort.

so what do we look for in count and what the springs are made of? Is it simply count (gotta believe more is better) or can it be a combination of size and count?

Yes to both items. The more springs, the better. Steel springs, not plastic.

Had a Eureka moment today and realized that my morning lower back/hip pain is almost certainly mattress related. (I'm always SUPER tight when I wake up, feel immediately a little better after a hot shower and then a million times looser as the day goes on. Figure it has to be my 16 year old mattress (bought at Sleepy's for like $1,400 back in like 2009). Its clearly too soft at this point and I'm sinking into it and getting no support.

Gonna experiment and sleep in my guest room for a night or two (which has a much thicker full sized mattress) but I'm pretty sure I'm in the market for a new Queen size. I'm mostly a stomach sleeper (occasionally side) and tend to move a lot. Seems like medium firmness is my best bet.

Lot of info in this thread. Try different types of mattresses.
Latex foam - tend to lay on top of the mattress.
Memory Foam - tend to lay in the mattress (some describe it like laying in wet sand molding to your body).
Hybrid -combination of layers of foam and springs.
Traditional - springs

Lay in them for 10 minutes as you try them out. Just testing it for 60 seconds won't help you much.
Realize that whatever you end up selecting, you will probably wake up with slight pains for 30-60 days as your body adjusts to it. Most companies will have a 90 day or more return policy.
