Isnt it no-hitters? Johnny Vander Meer?
Yup. My bad. I also read the original post wrong so I really #### the bed on this thread.
I was just about to mention your streak of days not ####ting the bed but I guess I'll have to change my vote to DiMaggio.

I think the Ripken one is known by everyone, partly because it's more recent but also because it wasn't celebrated as some amazing athletic achievement. It was just a guy showing up and doing his job every day for 20 or so years. I think the common man really took to that and found some appreciation in it (even if the common man has to work 12 months a year and Ripken technically only "worked" for around 7-8 months or so).
The fact that no one in the sport aspires to break that record devalues it a ton in my opinion.

Agreed.

Favre playing as many games as he did in a row in football is far more impressive than what Ripken did, considering football is a far more physical sport and Favre played a position that gets hit a ton.

It may not be famous as a streak, but just think about it. 106 years. And you'd have to be, what 6 or so to remember watching the someone win the World Series? So there hasn't been a person anyone on this board has spoken to in a minimum of about 30 years who could possibly say he saw the Cubs win the World Series? It's not even a Streak at that point. It's a scientific law.

It's almost a handicap in this poll. "What's the most important thing in the world?" Gets answered with "love" or "my cat" or something, but I think Gravity should probably be higher up on the list. That's what the Cubs not winning the world series is. Gravity. Just the way things are and have always been.

But hey, they got Jon Lester!! So the end is in sight! Or did he go there because he wanted Octobers off?

Joe D. But I was surprised the Oklahoma's NCAA football winning streak wasn't listed. They won what? 56 games straight back in the 1950s?

OU 47 straight

I thought of UCLA winning 88 games in a row first.
I thought of Johnny Vandermeer's consecutive no-hitters, but that works too.

Also, Oklahoma's - what? - 47 game winning streak in football.
:coffee:
Notre Dame handed OU both the last loss before the streak began in '53 and the loss to end the streak in '57. Without looking can anyone name the "oddity" between those losses?

Notre Dame was also on both ends of the UCLA streak. Probably the earliest specific sporting event I can recall watching is ND ending UCLA's streak.

Interesting, I did not know that.

You are probably the first person I told.

The general population doesn't even know who DiMaggio is.
Where do you live where the general population doesn't know who DiMaggio is?
Dude had a song written about him for Pete's sake. He married Marilyn Monroe. The only people who don't know who he is are younger than 25 and that's only if they don't follow baseball at all. I'm 37 and everyone my age knows of him.
NOW I feel old. My goodness I was still in my 30's when I made this post.

So, any changes to your answers in the last 10 years?
Lions have gotten a lot of attention lately. But does never making a Super Bowl count as a streak?

Jayhawks - most consecutive NCAA tourney appearances with 34 (we’ll ignore the vacated 2018 appearance)
