Boy there's so much bad info in this thread that it's almost a little startling.
The Dungy/Gruden thing continues to be dumb, as it was since day 1. Once again, Dungy took two very good teams to Philly in the playoffs in 2000 and 2001 and got boatraced both times. Gruden took the 2002 team up there in the NFC title game and dominated. Then he won the Super Bowl. Case closed. It's dumb to even continue to talk about.
The Glazers...are they cheap? Maybe a little. I find it hard to say that after they paid Gruden $15 million to not coach again, then gave Winslow, Ward and Clayton big contracts (whether deserved or not is another story) and went hard after Haynesworth, but what you CANNOT say is that they have been unsuccessful. From 2000-2009, they went to the playoffs 5 times, won 3 division titles and a Super Bowl. The list of teams/owners that had a better decade than that is pretty short.
I don't see the reason to spend good after bad right now. Clearly the team is a year or two away and there were no impact free agents. Most fans are impatient, dumb or a combination of the both and can't remember that the team was fairly decent just in 07/08 (9-7 both years) but also wasn't going to be getting to the 12-4/13-3 level anytime soon. You have to strip it down to start over, and that's what they've done. But sports fans now in the internet/mass media/sports radio world we live in can't accept anything other than instant gratification. I'd rather listen to Roseanne Barr sing the national anthem in my bedroom than listen to sports radio in this market. The hosts are morons who throw crap against the wall for ratings and reactions, and the callers fall right in line and soak it up. Dominik (I always forget how to spell his name) has done a decent job rebuilding this thing. He acquired a stud TE for a second-round pick, what looks like a franchise QB and had three other good draft selections last year. He also had the stones to tell Antonio Bryant to GTFO after he decided to pick up the prima donna act last season.
I'm looking forward to the draft next week. I believe we're in capable hands, and with Freeman and Suh/McCoy we have the foundation for legitimate optimism.
