What is the story with Laurence Maroney? (1 Viewer)

Is his shoulder going to be an issue? Currently I have to choose between: Shaun Alexander, Willie Parker, Laurence Maroney, and Deangleo Williams. I don't want to waste a keeper spot on a guy coming off a shoulder injury.

Thoughts on Maroney's health?

a shoulder injury to a RB will always be a cause for concern. in your case, FWP might be the safest bet. Alexander has a broken foot, D'will isn't a workhorse RB and could be involved in RBBC...Maroney showed that the shoulder is still bothering him at the May minicamp. Caveat Emptor. If you choose him over all others, make sure you grab Sammy Morris, early in your draft.

** Patriots reporters Mike Reiss is at the first day of training camp and says RB Laurence Maroney (shoulder) is wearing a red non-contact jersey. The status of his right shoulder has been ill-defined as most Patriots injuries are – but he can’t hide from open-media workout sessions. Red jerseys mean “fragile” and that’s not a good description of somebody when the season starts in 6 weeks. We’ll give Maroney a week to start hitting before we re-visit his projections for 2007.

Belichek's been playing a months-long game of "kiss my ###" with the media and Mangini. Game 1 of the regular season, he unleashes a completely healthy and ready-to-roll Maroney on the Jets. He dominates from the opening coin flip. He's then shielded from the media, and is only seen wearing a full body cast for the next several days...only to appear for Game 2 and again dominate. Belichek does this the entire season, long after people stop worrying about Maroney's health. By now, he just thinks it's really freaking funny.

Complete speculation on my part...but who here would put it past Belichek?

I communicate regulary with Reiss and he has indicated to me that the Pats are being overly cautious and that Maroney will be suited up and in the Week 1 lineup barring a set back. He mapped out weeks ago to me that Maroney would not do much heavy lifting or hitting in camp and to be prepared for him to see minimal work until then. I can't say that I disagree with the Pats on this one, as they will not be winning any games in August. As I spelled out in many other posts, I think people are over projecting Maroney's workload this year. IMO, they won't be going deep in the playoffs without Maroney, and I would guess that they will try to limit him to 15-18 carries a game. He may once in a while see more action if the game dictates it, but I would not expect many 25+ carry outings. Other guys on the roster will see a few reps per game.In response to that, I think the Pats running game will be slightly weaker than the past few years with Dillon in the fold and that the Pats will adjust by utilizing their new crop of receivers and passing a lot more than most people think. I also suspect we may see more short yardage ball control passing plays (also known as the dink and dunk passing attack) for 4-6 yards a pop. I think Maroney is a capable back, but I don't see him getting a workload on par with LT, S-Jax, LJ, etc.Losing some touches and some yardage will not kill a Maroney owner, and the big question I have is how the Pats plan on getting into the end zone in the red zone. I'd slot Maroney for 10-12 TD but anything beyond that in my book is hard to project. I can easily see NE going the fade route with Moss or jamming it to Watson over the middle. If I had to guess, maybe 1100/200/11 for Maroney = 196 fantasy points and just inside the Top 10 obviously with upside for more.
