What is up with Ocho Cinco? (1 Viewer)

CJ being double teamed is no excuse. I saw plenty of plays were Chad wasn't double teamed, and simply couldn't get serperation... and I saw plenty of plays, including the touchdown catch were Housh was double teamed and made the tough play. That's the difference between the two. Chad is all about the big play, and the big plays don't have time to develope with this offensive line. Housh is willing to do all of the dirty work, and work across the middle for the tough catches, and yards.
This is sooo false. Safeties roll his way every time. EVERY TIME. He is the MOST explosive WR in the league. Ya, Housh catches the dink and dunks and that is why he is more valuable. Teams would rather let Housh slowly beat you then let Chad murder you all day. It's a fact.

I'm going to hang on to him for a couple of starts after Chris Henry returns. His ability to stretch the field might give Chad the opportunity to run shorter routes and gain targets. I'm concerned, but Henry opens up the offense a ton in between his suspensions.

I'm going to start him this week. He's due. Sometimes fantasy football is all about the gut.
"He's due" is the only FF logic that gives "Take away the one long play..." a run for his money in ineptitude. I bet "all about the gut" is up there somewhere too.
Or, actually, maybe there's a ton of luck in this game, Bub. Sorry to break the news. Instinct is part of the equation. That said, math dictates that after his slow start, Johnson is, in fact, increasingly "due" -- if you also believe he'll come close to matching his typical season-long numbers.Nevertheless, I may backtrack and not start him after all, now that I've realized Duane Bowe is playing against Denver. (KC will be playing from behind all day, plus Denver's D isn't stopping anyone.)Long story short: Chad won't be this bad all year.

Just traded Chad Johnson, Anquan Boldin, NYG D for Brandon Marshall and D-Bowe (I also have Plaxico). Im glad to cut Johnson loose this year. I recommend you all try to trade him while people still think he will turn this around.

"Chad won't be this bad all year" isn't much of a stretch. Through three games he has a TOTAL of 8 catches for 88 yards and 0 TD's. I agree, he will probably have some games this season where he goes for more than 40 yards receiving. But the "math" only dictates he's due, given the assumption that he'll match his typical season averages. If we assume that in his remaining 13 games he will put up 1300 yards and 9 TD's, then of course the "math" dictates that he'll get better. But that's basically begging the question. The problem is I don't think most people here, now or even before the season started, expected that Chad would put up his typical season averages this year. The time to sell high on Chad Johnson is long gone, I'm afraid.ETA: Unless you're in this guy's league, apparently:

:goodposting: You will all feel much better once you have.

So over a three year span:- 85% chance of 50 yards or more- 50% chance of 100+ yards and/or a TD- 71% chance of 5 or more catches
You set the bar far too low.85% chance of 50 yards? 50 yards is a sub-par game given where you have to draft him.He has a 50% chance of 100 + OR a TD?You gotta be kidding me.
What do you expect these numbers look like for other top 10 fantasy WRs over a similar 3 year stretch?

for everyone who thinks CJ is so inconsistent, go check the game logs of other prominent WRs over the same span of his career. johnson has a very similar set as a guy like holt or fitz or wayne. who exactly do you people think is SO consistent? TO fits the bill, i will give you that, but if you look at 10+ pt games, non-PPR, i could not find anyone who blew CJ away. its the nature of the position, its just when johnson goes off, he goes OFF!i will happily eat crow if anyone can find a stable of WRs that do in fact put ocho to shame, but i think this is largely a myth.
:lmao:

I was there... and it is not false. Sometimes they would have him double teamed, and sometimes they wouldn't. He was NOT doubled on every play... and Housh was doubled just as much as CJ was.

Since becoming a starter, in 0 PPR leagues Jonhson has scored 10 or more points 45 times in 99 games played.Random sampling of other WRs:Larry Fitzgerald 32 times in 63 games played.T.O. 55 times in 84 games since 2002.Burress 42 times in 93 games since 2002.
that sounds about rightTOFitzCJPlax

give him a break. He's been busy this month with the name change and all. Think of all the marketing for himself. Who really cares about the team.

Ocho Cinco is just cute. He's a real player! He only thinks team first!

He needs to send Al Davis a box of Depends to help him find out where the leak is in his organization about the potential Kiffin firing.

CJ would be hated then loved as he follows the route Owens took years earlier. Owens dances on the Star eventually becomes a Cowboy and not a cancer. CJ sends Davis a box of depends, signs a lucrative contract with the Raiders - CJ gets his money and Davis gets his big play potential.

Johnson promises a break out Wednesday 9/24, 5:38 PM CT

Chad Johnson promises to break out in the coming weeks according to the AP. Cincinnati has a favorable matchup at home against Cleveland this weekend. "I've had a season like this before - I believe it was '06, a similar slow start like this. But once I break out, I really break out. So I'm being patient, just doing what I can, and when the opportunities come, I make the most of them."

Our View: Chad usually backs up his predictions and fantasy owners can only hope. He has just eight catches for 88 yards over three games this season. Carson Palmer looked better last week but obviously favored T.J. Houshmandzadeh. We won't be convinced of his "breakout" until he proves he is healthy and gives his owners something to write on the message boards about.

I'm getting the bad feeling that Chad is the 2nd coming of Herman Moore. A precipitous drop off from the face of the earth. I really hope this isn't the case but it sure is starting to look like it.

The biggest problem Chad has is the OC and the OL. Keep running 20 + yd routes when the line can only block for 7 yd routes, and you wont see much production. Keep running Perry up the middle like you have some sort of power blocking scheme, and you wont see much production. TJ finally broke loose because Chatman opened up the field making the defense account for short dumps that could result in big yards.

Some dude in one of my leagues offered to trade me Eddie Royal for CJ. This is like offering a piece of feces with corn in it for a slightly larger piece of feces sans corn.

LOL yes, the reason Houshmandzadeh went off against the Giants is because the Bengals put the fear of Antonio Chatman in them.

:) This is exactly why there are a lot of CJ/CHenry owners; they want to see CJ's production when Henry is there as a proven viable additional receiver on the field...

the team is just pathetic. the Oline is awful, I own CJ and I don't know that I'll start him at all the rest of the season. I'd be shocked if he ends up top 25 WR

Aside from one score last week he has been a poor fantasy start. Will he rebound this week? It is almost guaranteed he continues to fall if Palmer is out of the lineup? Or does it not matter whom the QB is given the poor line play? I have a gut feeling on him this week - he may be in for a solid day. But there are far more cons than pros at this point. Thoughts from interested homers and owners?

Him declaring that he will score and kiss the "Star" at midfield will not go over well with the Dallas Defense.Even if it's a tribute to the place..... could be ugly!

He has to score in order to do so... I hope he does so more than once if thats the case.

Ocho Cinco may be one of those guys that just needs to talk. He's been quiet this entire season and has been terrible. Maybe this is his way of lighting a fire under his and his teams collective asses.

I could also be wrong, but when he talks smack, he usually backs it up.

I actually like that he's going back to being the Ocho Cinco that everyone loves or hates rather than the guy that almost seems disinterested on the field.

In my league where we start 3 WR, I picked up Lance Moore and Steve Breaston to partner with Vincent Jackson. (I am assuming Boldin is out and Cotchery is on bye.) That is how much distain I have for Chad right now. I think next week I am going to drop him outright.
