What is your old-school food guilty pleasure? (1 Viewer)

I probably have a few more, but tonight, and what spawned this post is old-school Chicken Rice-a-Roni. I’m not sure why it’s the San Francisco treat, but I really don’t care at this point.

That’s my dinner (along with a few beers) while my wife is gone. That’s all I need. I’ll eat all 3 1/2 cups as indicated on the package.

Nom, nom, nom.

Love it.
I would crack open and down a can of freestone peaches if I had them in the cabinet….

Sliced tomatoes with mozzarella and basil in a Balsamic and oil vinaigrette.

Not even 1% Italian, but grew up in a big strong Italian community in NJ.

Whoops, guilty pleasure. ANYTHING Drakes, Lil Debbie, Entenmann's, Hostess, etc.

Hamburger Helper

I crave it two or the times a year and I tell my wife that I’ve got supper for myself tonight. I eat the whole package with zero sides.

Found out something new about my father-in-law recently. He dropped off one of our boys and heard we were going to the grocery, so he asked which one. When we answered he pulled out a $20 and said 'beefaroni is on sale for a buck a pop- get me 20, please.' Turned and walked away.

After filling the cart with it and looking at the label I couldn't get beef-a-reeno out of my head #RUSTY!!!

A flour tortilla filled with cheese and rolled up, covered in Ortega hot taco sauce, microwaved until the cheese is melted, and then topped with sour cream.

Oh yeah!

Also, tortilla, cheese, pepperoni....roll up, microwave. Maybe add some pepperonicinis in there.

Nutella on bread for breakfast. I've been indulging lately. My grocery store sells nice croissants. The jar of yumminess is sitting right there.

I’m a glutton for cereal, and my fave has always been Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

I bought a Cinnamon Toast Crunch protein powder. It's pretty awesome. Goes great in my coffee and with oatmeal making a somewhat healthy breakfast that reminds me of the old days.

Big cereal guy here too. Almost any cereal. I like eating it late at night best, especially after a little weed. Sadly, that's increasingly bothersome as I get older (the late-night food, not the weed!)

Potato chips. A bag rarely survives the night. I'm 3 servings deep by the time I get home. I don't even buy that giant cape cod bag from costco even though its a great deal and a healthier variety b/c I'll just keep eating them until my tongue goes numb from all the salt. You give me one food that if given the option I could eat without experiencing the adverse health effects and I'm choosing those every day of the week.

Sounds like you’re cheating on Chef Boyardee.

On the sweet side, still find myself eating orange Hostess cupcakes and Fruity Pebbles cereal from time to time.

Fruity Pebbles for my go to way back cereal.

Still love making a simple sausage gravy and putting it over ripped up bread. Great use of the heals. Poorer days didn't need the sausage.

Saltines with a little cheese and maybe some summer sausage.
Was just craving this last week so bought a summer sausage and a block of sharp cheddar. I skipped the cracker.

Every so often I will have popcorn for supper. Just popcorn and not a healthy kind. Popped in a Stir-Crazy and doused in real butter and popcorn salt.

I haven’t indulged in a long time as I’ve tried to cut back on sugar but I would absolutely house an entire box of Honeycomb if given the chance.

A few of these hit home for me.

This. Not often, but on rare occasions, I'll settle in to binge-watch a show with a sleeve of saltines, a few slices of colby, cheddar, and/or pepperjack cheese (usually folded/cut into quarters), and if available, some sliced up Johnsonville (or whatever brand) summer sausage. Perfect "meal" paired with almost any beverage and works great when you're not in the mood to cook. Of course, the only time I get away with it is when I'm the only one home. Side note.... When I was a kid, I can remember going through the cupboards when my parents were gone and settling for saltines with butter as a "snack" that we couldn't have if they were home. Ironically, I think we got the idea from my mom telling a similar story from when she was a kid. Man, those were the days (and we must not have had much in the house in terms of snacks/junk food). I also vaguely remember getting into my mom's baking chocolate one time and quickly finding out that it's not very good by itself.
Ritz
With almost anything on it.
Ritz are probably the most popular (and versatile) cracker in our house. Commonly eaten with cheese, some sort of spread, etc. And, on a very rare occasion (I'm talking like once every two years), I'll go rogue and buy a can of Cheddar or Bacon N Cheddar "Easy Cheese." No idea what that stuff is made of (which is mostly why I rarely buy it), but it is great with Ritz crackers.

In high school, one of the local pizza places was known for their pizza burritos. Pepperoni, Sausage, or Canadian Bacon. So popular that, 20 years after their closing, there's still a Facebook group dedicated to those burritos (where people share recipes trying to replicate the sauce, etc.). I've tried many times to replicate, and never quite perfected them, but come pretty close. Usually just pepperoni, shredded cheese (I've tried a variety), and pizza sauce of some kind. Wrap it up in a medium-sized flour tortilla and heat in microwave, oven, toaster oven, or even air fryer. Occasionally, I'll play with ground pork sausage, ham, or maybe add some green olives, peppers, etc. But, the easy go-to is just simply the pepperoni/cheese/sauce/tortilla.... you can make a couple of them in under 5 minutes (and they're usually devoured even faster).
