What is your old-school food guilty pleasure? (4 Viewers)

White people taco night. I haven’t had a white people taco night in a decade+.

You know the kind. Seasoned ground beef, hard shells in the pack. Shredded lettuce, tomato, grated cheddar cheese, and sour cream. La Victoria taco sauce is a must. Basically a bougie home made TB taco supreme. (Pickled jalapeño slices optional, but necessary)

It’s delicious & nostalgic.

I live in NorCal. I can get outstanding Mexican food all over the place. But this classic of causasity has to be made custom.

Imma have to have a white people taco night soon.

Grilled peanut butter and jelly.
Don't knock it till you try it. :excited:
Just tried grilled crunchy peanut butter and strawberry jam.
Do you butter the bread to grill it? Inquiring minds and all that.
Yes, just like grilled cheese, just replace the cheese with peanut butter and jelly
Sounds intriguing. I may have to give that one a go.
oh, it's jazzy alright

My wife mentioned to me that she used to mix a can of tuna, cream of mushroom soup, and noodles together and have that often. I have no idea what that was supposed to be, but it sounds disgusting.

She also mentioned this: Kraft Noodle Classics, Savory Chicken - Apparently, it's still available.
It's a variation of tuna casserole. It's wonderful. Total comfort.
I never got around to trying, but a buddy used to live on canned tuna mixed into boxed mac and cheese.

He called it Smack and Cheese.

Now slap a cheeseburger in the middle. Trust me on this.
I swear it’s delicious. Lazy Dog restaurant did a PB&J burger and it was epic.
I really dislike sweet and savory mixed. I don't even like honey glazed ham.

I've seen Kraft mac n' cheese mentioned, but for me I love browning up some ground beef and putting it in my mac n' cheese. So good.
Chopped up hotdogs and frozen peas gets you all 4 food groups.

On hot toast just out of the toaster works too.

Mrs. O loves this. She adds sardines too.

I agree. I consider pb&j to be sweet and salty and I prefer that combination. Or sweet and spicy.

It was jalapeño jelly and the peanut butter ends up tasting like satay sauce. A combo I adore.

Peanut butter burgers are great. The whole peanut allergy thing came along about the same time they were getting popular and they started dropping off the menus.

Not really. After we got married, Mr R expressed an interest in having a grilled cheese sandwich, so I made him a couple. He had no idea you were supposed to actually grill them in a pan. His mom had always just toasted the bread. It works in a pinch, but it's nowhere near as good. The cheese just doesn't get as melty, and the bread isn't as toasty. No bueno.

Agreed. Just something about the butter getting "grilled" just makes it better.

When I was a kid, my Mom used to make "grilled" cheese sandwiches by putting open faced sandwiches on a cookie sheet and putting them in the oven.
I much prefer the traditional method I use now.

It's weird because his mom was a really good cook. Her chili did suck, though. I guess you can't be good at everything.

I think most of mine have been mentioned:

Steak-umms
Capt Crunch
Hostess Sno-balls
Ham helper (stroganoff of course)
PB & Banana
Cinn Toast Crunch
Little Caesars pizza
Kraft M&C
Peeps

Yeah I'd do tuna instead of ground beef from time to time.

If it wasn't ground meat or tuna, it was chopped-up hot dogs!

I was talking about the peanut butter and jelly. Hot toast is more than enough to melt peanut butter.

Nothing really. I can think of A LOT of things from the past....but I either don't have access to them now, choose not to eat it because it's probably horrible for me or my mom isn't close by to make any of it. lol

Can't speak for Mrs. R's comment, but I've had peanut butter and jelly on toast right out of the toaster. Grilling it was a much better experience.

This thread reminded me of my dad's snack repetoire from back in the day. Cheese toast was his go to - a slice of American cheese on white bread fresh out of the toaster oven. He would slice the strip of cheese into three strips |||, so that's artisan cheese toast to y'all.

Related: Note to self, reverse engineer Frito Lay Bean Dip recipe. Last time I looked it was like $4 for a tiny can, for what, 3-cents worth of ingredients.

Deviled Ham on Saltine Crackers
