What makes a fan "Toolish" (1 Viewer)

I'll start it off with a few off the top of my head.

My definition of toolish fans are the ones that:

1. The fan that starts drinking outside the stadium at 8am and decides that they're going to recite the swearing dictionary in the general direction of anyone in the stands that they don't approve of. Usually it's in the direction of the guy in the opposing teams jersey who brought his 6 year old daughter with him.

2. The fans that call into radio shows and talk about how their team should trade their second round pick for Peyton Manning. And they're serious.

3. The fans that throw stuff onto the field.

The first and third example fall under the "idiot" category in my book more than toolish. i think of the toolish fan as someone like example #2, where they have no idea of basic personnel knowledge. Here in raleigh we get a show called Panthers talk and I am always surprised at some of the misinformed elementary stuff that comes out of people's mouths. Stuff like, "why can't we get another receiver like a Marques Colston to compliment Smith" and "glad we resigned Dan Morgan"...IMO, all this stuff stems from not knowing the limitations of the salary cap. They just don't understand why guys have to be cut or why it is so hard to upgrade all of your trouble areas in the offseason.

When they start a new "2007 Patriots are the Greatest Football Team in the History of the World" thread after every lopsided victory?

When they say WE.
I've gone back and forth on my opinion of this. I don't keep mental track of it, but I think it really depends on the audience. If I'm talking to my dad or fellow fans about the team I root for I'm sure I say "we." And if I'm on my teams messageboard, I probably use it there as well (again, I'm not exactly conscious of it).But if I'm at a bar with fans of other teams or on a board like here, I would guess I don't use the royal we and instead refer the team by it's name or "them."At the same time, I wouldn't label a person who does say "we" all the time as a tool. Teams are nothing without fans who shell out hard earned $$ to support their team. While they may not be on the field, they are a part of the sporting entity. If anything, I think it might be "toolish" to call people who say "we" "tools." :nerd:

Residing in Boston is a pretty good indicator of toolishness. And New York. And Philadelphia. Basically the entire north east.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

Can't speak for the folks in New York and Boston...But going on damn near 25 years without a championship in any of the 4 major sports tends to produce some bitter fans.

A tool is someone who spouts a party line, from the phrase "a tool of the system". In the sports sense it's a person who chooses to throw away most of their objectivity when their team is involved.
