What NFL teams are hurt the most by a lockout? (1 Viewer)

I imagine a team like the Colts, Patriots or Steelers will be just fine if a resolution to the lockout comes in July or August.

But for many teams, it seems like a disaster.

Take the Titans for instance:

New coach

New offensive coordinator

New defensive coordinator

No QB at all (Rusty Smith is only QB on roster, but even that doesn't matter)

So you're asking a first time head coach to coach a team with a rookie QB (assuming they get one in the draft) and no off-season?

Even so, Munchak has been in this organization for a long time, so if he chooses, he could probably try to keep everything the same this year and "ease" the players into a new system.

I can't imagine any team with a new coach is feeling good about 2011 right now.

I'd throw the Bears into the mix. The longer it drags out, the longer Cutlergate gets talked about.
Ehh, it's a pretty stable offense and team. In fact, I'd say that the focus this off-season is so far OFF the playing field, that if we get a late start (August) to the season, the Cutlergate crap will be in the rear view mirror.

Any team with a new coach doesn't get the extra practice time that is probably useful in implementing the schemes. Chances are, these teams weren't good to begin with since there's a new coach so it's an uphill battle. I never rule out a non-playoff team from making the playoffs the next season though in the NFL as it's often a battle of attrition with all of the injuries around the league.

I think it helps the Giants. The Giants like to draft BPA so now they can do that, and based on how the draft falls determine what FA to keep and go after. The downside is Kiwi should be much healthier, he's already been cleared by the doctors, so he probably won't sign a 1 year "prove it" contract, he should get offers. Steve Smith and perhaps Bradshaw face the biggest risk f being gone if the BPA att eh Giatns pick is a RB or WR, unlikely though. I think it will still be Oline or LB. There are several LB FA so if the Giants don't take one in the draft they can drive hard for the FA LB they like.

I think it hurts the Redskins on numerous fronts. They have so many holes to fill, they were certainly going to look at a mixture of draft and free agency to fill holes. For instance, many mocks I see now have them taking a WR first -- most likely Jones -- and a QB second -- someone like Andy Dalton for instance. But, to do this, they would almost certainly have to shore up some defensive needs in Free Agency. To the extent that the lockout does not allow them to begin this process, it makes their draft decisions that much more difficult.

I wonder if this dynamic of Free Agent/draft mixture is affecting any clubs or if they will just "pick who they pick" regardless?

Also, no OTAs mean we will miss more Haynesworth drama this offseason and we may not even get to see him run endurance drills. :-D

Gotta add the Panthers to teams hurt by lockout. Same issues, New HC, OC, DC, QB problems, lot's of FA's that can't currently be re-signed, top draft pick. Missing 2nd round pick. Oh, and the coup de grace, Jerry Richardson (almost single handedly sinking negotiations) as an owner and Marty Hurney as GM.

Yeah, I don't think that the Eagles (especially Reid) have ever made a move without thinking of how it will impact the future. I'd say the Birds made a lot of moves this year with the thought that they would get a kings ransom for Kolb. While they were probably right, it looks like they won't be able to capitalize.

Unfortunate, really.
