What players does homerism prevent you from drafting? (1 Viewer)

For me, it's Aaron Brooks. I see other FBGs pointing at the four straight top-8 finishes amoing QBs from 2001-2004, and expecting a return to form this season.

All I see, after watching Brooks for six seasons, are the negatives. The nonchalance, the acceptance of losing, the refusal to shoulder blame. Yeah, yeah, none of that shows up in the box score. I admit that homerism is not logical. Q.E.D.

I lean a different way when it comes to "homerism" and fantasy drafts. I tend to shy away from players on my favorite team, unless they are clearly the best player at that pick.

I can't bring myself to draft cowboys... I really do not like watching them.
It's taken me most of my ten years playing to break myself of that problem. It wasn't helped by the fact that I begrudgingly drafted Emmitt Smith early on (1998, I think) and suffered through an awful season of his where I had to keep him in the lineup but I kept on losing. But in more recent years I've picked up both Patrick Crayton and, yesterday, Tony Romo, so I'm making progress. :D

I'm a displaced Viking fan living in Chicago. I will not draft any Bears and I would be happy if they never won another game ever. Of course from a fantasy perspective, outside the D, they make it pretty easy to avoid picking one of them...

I also shy away from Vikings. They do poorly then I'm bummed on two fronts. They are much easier to avoid these days than they were in say the late 90's. Thanks Mike Tice.

Ahman Green in ANY round. He needs to be healthy for the Packers to have a decent run this year. With my "hex ability" and that horrid O-line, I can't take a chance.

I will draft any player. Period. And I am not sure your example is homerism. If you have zero confidence in Brooks as a fantasy QB, you feel that way because you have watched him a lot and you don't like what you see. To me, hoomerism would be passing on Cadillac Williams because you are a Saints fan that hates the Buccs.

Homerism has 0 impact on my fantasy drafts.
Same here. As a Steelers fan I drafted both a Brown (Droughns) and a Raven (Mason) in this mornings draft. I did not pick up any Steelers, but mostly because the league is mostly Steeler homers and they usually go above value.

:goodposting: I try not to draft Steelers, but i usually end up with their defense so I can have some Black & Gold on the roster. I'm liking FWP as a #2RB this year, won't touch Hines...

No one, really. At least not because of homerism.

If anything I avoid Steelers because I'm going to root for them no matter what, and if they suck, I'm screwed over in fantasy football too. I don't want to even have a small part of me wishing the Steelers would have passed for a TD instead of running for one because I have Roethlisberger starting. I have Big Ben as a backup in one dynasty league and I have Jeff Reed as my kicker. That's about it though.

There's nobody who homerism PREVENTS me from drafting. If anything, there are several players that I am *MORE LIKELY* to draft thanks to homerism. Not because I'm a blind homer who just likes grabbing players from his team, but because I feel like I'm very educated on the Broncos and so I tend to be higher on their players than others. It helps being the fan of a good offense. In the past several seasons, I've grabbed Plummer, Rod Smith, Mike Anderson, Jason Elam, and Denver's Defense, and was mocked for every pick. Every single one of them outperformed their draft position. :)

My favorite homer player to pick up is Jason Elam, because rooting for a kicker is the same thing as rooting for the entire offense in general. The more the team scores, the more the kicker scores. Plus there's the fact that Elam's been top 10 for 9 straight seasons, and no other kicker has been top 10 for more than 2 years running.
