What social problem could be solved eventually? (1 Viewer)

I'd like to see headway on absentee, deadbeat male procreators and a welfare system that seems to reward baby mamas along with little incentive to break the cycle.

Other than Rok thinking this is Twitter this is potentially a great thread.

Eliminating all of the social safety nets is a bad idea IMO. Nobody thinks they need them until they do.  Threre will be, heaven forbid, FBGs that will need to be caught. Also, it's obvious that many Americans don't have the a) means b) foresight c) discipline to see past or plan behind Friday.

We can feed the hungry. We can provide a good education and good basic healthcare to all. We can reduce pollution. Renewable energy. So much is in our grasp. Though Wikkid sounds like he's predicting centuries of Armageddon. I can see that too. Depends on the choices we make.

I think part of our taxes should be optional.

Namely social security and Medicare. If a person doesn't want to pay into these programs, that's fine. They just will not have access to the service.

Same thing goes for tax dollars that go towards public schools. If you don't want to pay them, fine. Your children just won't be able to attend public school.
This is an unfathomably stupid idea.

Don't let me ruin the internet for you.

Hit that ignore button.

Bill Clinton blocked-granted welfare in the 90s and now it's a shell of its former self and called TANF (temporary assistance for needy families).

All that did was create more poverty, but people swore up and down that if you capped it then it would make people less lazy and go to work.

20 years later, we can see that it little to no effect on certain people's work ethic. Disability became the new welfare.

I hope Medicaid & SNAP aren't block-granted. That would have terrible consequences.

I think it's time for the federal minimum wage to be increased. This is the longest period in history that it's stayed the same.

Most companies will give the lowest employees 8 or 9 an hour anyway. Let's make it $10.10/hour.

Move to CA...Flip a burger and get $15 in short order

Say what you want but fat chicks will end society way before Isis does. Gotta get a handle on the fat woman crisis.

Someone should arrest you for that you liberal twit!
I get your :sarcasm: but I do worry that people will read my statement as a condemnation of a specific political party rather than a condemnation of extremism in general.

Problem is that extremists are never aware that they are extremists. So I am not really that hopeful that any problems will be fixed before we go nuclear in some form.

We already have the knowledge and the technology to solve a few of our major issues but we can only do these things if we have a unified domestic and international society.

So the first social issue we need to solve is, how do we unify our people (our species)?

Dunno about Armageddon, but a Crash seems likely because so much & many of our present ways are unsustainable. Rok n Role is six months out of his parents' basement and thinking like a robber baron.

Due to tremendous advances in technology and hard-earned social justice, 20th century-born human beings began experiencing all the things that humans could be. It is the opportunity that life has worked toward for several billion years. We should feel enormously blessed that we can effect and afford independent life for all, yet it has made us extraordinarily selfish. This is wrong, but it is understandable. People have been clearing fields and digging trenches and dying in childbirth and fighting wars and feeling unmitigatible pain and scratching at the earth to stay alive for a million years - i suppose they are due some celebration time.

What is hard to abide is that they dont want to share. Those newly free from want and fear are using it to develop new wants and fears instead of pointing their lives toward sharing the miracle with all. That and the fact that since we threw away unified moral codes in the name of personal freedom we have chosen to ignore that fact that we had moral codes because we needed moral codes, leads me to believe that this all is behavioral, a yet-evolved species gorging on a windfall of supply.

This fits with what we know of brain science. There is a separation between levels of the brain that causes us to indulge gorging and hoarding as matters of survival.  The impulses from that part of the brain are so strong that the miraculous higher part of the brain spends most of the time indulging and creating abstractions for our lower instincts and urges.

Basically, we have two entities inside each of us - a masturbating, poop-throwing monkey and a computer more sophisticated than we can yet duplicate. And who still makes 99.44% of the decisions on how we act in this modern age? *wipes poop from face, glad it aint jizz*

We can change that. We are simply choosing not to so far. We are back on the path to victory as soon as we do, however.
