It also means that the Pats could have the #1 seed wrapped up before week 16. Of course, they'd still have the perfect season to play for so I doubt there's a huge impact especially given the way they've been keeping their starters in the game all year.
It's also possible that the Pats could lose a game along the way and still have everything wrapped up before week 16, but that's less likely. Their most likely loss would be against the Steelers. If that happens, Pittsburgh would have an otherwise easy schedule (Jets, Dolphins, Bengals, etc) and would have a good chance of being a game back going into week 16. The Steelers do play a Saturday game that week (meaning the Pats would know whether they'd already lost), but it's against the Rams so they should be OK.
In other words, the Pats could have a loss and already have the Colts beat by week 16, but it's unlikely the could also have clinched against the Steelers unless they beat Pittsburgh but lost to someone else. I don't see that happening.
All this assumes that the Pats would play it differently if they were 15-0 vs 14-1, which of course we don't know for sure.
