My neighbor growing up was in bed by 7 when he was like 10 years old...We'd be out playing in the yard in the summer in full daylight, and he'd have to go home to eat dinner and go to bed. So strange. I don't know how a kid sleeps when it's daylight out.

4 and 8- start at 8:00, asleep by 8:30. at this point, by 8:00, they're done and put themselves to sleep without any prompting.

but I see people with kids of all ages out and about in our neighborhood (downtown NYC) all night, even during the week.

5 yo - 7:30 on school night, 830-900 on weekends

9 and 10 yo - 830 on school night, 1030-1100 on weekends

I have friends we don't hang out with anymore because they don't have a clue how to control their kids. heaven forbid you tell your kid 'no' once in a while. but they can't because they never have, and if they start now the kid will have a monstrous tantrum and we can't have that.

Usually about 8ish we go up...by the time they brush and pick out clothes (for school days) and do stories, its between 8:30 and 9.

Weekends may be up a bit longer...or summers or vacations like this past week on fall break.
