What Vince had to say after the game... (1 Viewer)

QB VINCE YOUNG

(on if this tops last week)

Ah yeah. I mean a 60-yard kick by the man, that was beautiful. I’m real happy for him right now.

(on if they should get respect now after two come-back wins)

I don’t know. I don’t really care how people feel about us. Basically as a team, our fans and people that do like us, that’s all we care about is to continue making progress as a team and bringing the excitement back to Nashville for our fans.

(on his reaction to the punt/field goal call)

I thought ‘Oh coach, just give him a chance, I mean we have the wind blowing and all.’ Then I saw the punt team come out and I thought ‘Oh no, no, no.’ Then when the Colts called a timeout, I guess it gave enough time for Coach Fisher to think about it and then I saw the field goal team go back out so I was happy about that.

(on if him running more shows the game is slowing down for him now)

It’s slowing down, it’s slowing down a whole lot and just basically during the week, watching those guys rush up field and seeing how those guys leave different things open and I took advantage of that. Then the guys were dropping back real deep underneath the coverages in my routes so they gave me the opportunity to use my legs, so I did.

(on the protection he’s getting from the offensive line)

We’ll be taking them out to eat. They know I love those guys so much. I tell them everyday before and after the games I always go up to each and every one of them individually and tell them, ‘I appreciate your blocking and all the things you do’ because the chemistry of those guys is getting better and better each week. Those guys always come up to me in the locker room and say, “Hey man the things you do out there with your legs help us out a whole lot with our blocking.’ So it’s both of us, we help each other out.

(on if he though the Colts tried to change the defense for his running ability)

No. They did nothing differently. They played their game, three coverage and tried to get Bob Sanders out of the box to try and stop the run. They didn’t do anything different. They didn’t blitz as much as we thought they would, but at the same time that’s why I took advantage with my legs a little bit.

(on the Colts pass rushers)

That’s pretty much Indianapolis’ game. That’s what they teach. They try to let their linebackers make the plays and let Bob Sanders and the free safeties make the plays, but when you have a guy like Travis Henry, an explosive runner, he runs through those types of safeties and smaller guys like that so if you get him one-on-one with those guys, he will win that battle every time.

(on if he thinks his passing game is improving)

I put all that to Coach Norm Chow, Coach Sherman Smith and Coach Craig Johnson. We take time on Thursdays and stay after as a receiving corps and go over some of the things we are going to be running in the game so that we can get our chemistry down speed wise. That’s basically what I’ve been doing behind the scenes. It helps the chemistry and the speed of both the receivers and me. It helps a whole lot. From the running backs to getting down and checking the ball to those guys and then knowing where my receivers and tight ends are at every time that helps a lot.

(on how important it was to get the touchdown right before halftime)

When the defensive guys make stops like that and you come to the sidelines and you have guys like Lamont Thompson, Keith Bulluck and these guys saying, ‘Hey don’t worry about it, we’ll get the ball back to you,’ that helps your confidence get higher from an offensive stand point. When you come to the sidelines and when it’s your time you are ready to go back out. You are ready to go back out because your guys got you the ball back. Then we basically just put the ball in our playmakers hands, like Travis Henry and the tight-ends and then get down there and score a touchdown. It was a good time to score at the right time, even though we didn’t get that touchdown we got the three points and that’s all that matters.

(on if it was nice to see the receivers stepping up to help him today)

That’s what I said; we’ve been practicing all week on different things. Courtney Roby is a little guy and he’s real quick. I try to tell guys on the opposite team, ‘Don’t try to press that guy because he’s got good quickness and he can get off the line pretty good.’

(on if it was easier to play the Colts the second time around)

I wouldn’t say it was easier. Those guys look at that first game. Indianapolis is a good football team and they didn’t want the things that happened to them to happen again so they basically prepared for that. That’s why they had a lot of guys in the box. They wanted me to beat them with my arm, but I’m getting better and better each week and I’m getting more comfortable with seeing these NFL defenses. They are throwing a lot at me, but at the same time Coach Norm Chow is giving me a great opportunity with these great calls by executing them.

(on if he’s ever been invited to the Peyton Manning passing camp)

Yes, I’ve been invited twice, but I couldn’t make it because of other things I was doing, but yes I have been invited.

(on his confidence level)

I just get tired of people talking about us. When you have teams saying we are the worst team in the league or you have commentators saying this or that about us. You just get tired of hearing that especially when you know you are a good team. We are just a young team and once we get our chemistry down, everything’s going to work out. That’s what you’ve been seeing the last few weeks is our chemistry and team, everyone is working together and continues to believe and go back out each series and fights until there is no time on the clock.

Spoken like a true balla

That there says a lot. He pretty much showed that he has tons of confidence by not saying that he has a lot of confidence, instead showing that he cares about how his guys around him are getting used to his playing style.VY is going to be an excellent player quickly. So much for "raw" and "stupid." Wonderlic scores are useless anyway.s

Just giddily looking forward to watching the rest of this guy's career.

Im glad everyone in Nashville is getting to experience the transformative magic Vince has on a football team. UT is back to their underachieving, rudderless ways without him (although Colt McCoy did step up until he got hurt).

Stellar attitude - that's for sure.

And boy is he a fluid runner - like Burress he looks like he isn't even trying then he's blowing by somebody.

You can definitely see the mechanics issues that the scouts harped on but he looks to be graspinmg things pretty well. His WR aren't exactly ProBowlers though - he needs a littel help out there.

I thought he would be another one of those overhyped busts but if VY continues to improve he will PWN. He has been a lot of fun to watch so far.

I really, really thought drafting Vince Young and letting McNair go made no sense. I thought that resigning McNair and drafting a top lineman was the right choice. Second option would be to draft VY and let McNair stay on for a few year.

It looks like I was wrong. I still think TEN needs OL/DL help though...

:goodposting: :(
The thing is that it was not so much the loss of Vince (Colt stepped in and did a very nice job) as it was the almost complete implosion of the pass defense which was expected to be a strength prior to the season that caused this ship to be unguided. Admittedly the A&M game may not make it look like that but if you look back over the entire season the offense did pretty well at bailing the defense out, especially considering the talent we lost on offense (Young, a couple of very good OL, a good TE, etc.). I don't see the :tfp: being nearly as much the loss of VY as the total failure of the pass defense biting us in the ### all year long.
