What was your worst fantasy pick ever? (1 Viewer)

overall, it was my worst draft ever... i actually made the playoffs after a couple trades though...
Anyone else noticing a recurring theme here (in multiple posts)?
My first year, I got confused and took baseball players with my first 11 picks before somebody finally told me it was a fantasy football league. Oddly enough, I went on to win the championship that year, and the following six years in a row.

2003...drinking the "Marc Boeritger" kool-aid after his 8 TD's the previous season. Took him as my #3 WR on all 4 of my teams....BIGTIME OUCHIE!!!..... :wall:

1991- first draft ever - brian mitchell (was) @ the end of round one - only to be replaced after one game by brooks followed up by Stan Humphries with 2.01 - the night after he was concussed

My team was Humphries Folly for a couple of years after that;

part Deux:

Work Draft - round two - Corey Bradford!!!! ( this year - WOW)

First year of FFB, 2000, I take Troy Aikman in the second round.

He threw 5 incompletes, 1 INT, and then blew out his ankle for 3 games. Then he missed games on and off the rest of the year.

So many valuable lessons learned with that one pick....

In a keeper league (protect 3) I had the 1.1 pick due to a trade. The decision came down to which rookie running back I wanted to pair with Edge - Michael Bennett in the better situation in Minnesota, or the one I thought was a better player, but in a sucky situation - LaDainian Tomlinson. After much internal argument, I took Bennett    :bag: , as I thought he would score more that year and help me win right away. :X

Spent 20 million on Priest Holmes last season in a 55 million cap league.

Took JJ Arrington 4th overall in last years rookie draft.

Spent 5+ million on Chad Pennington.

I don't want to look any further into the past and relive the horrible trauma associated with some of those picks. I've blocked it all out and moved on.

All horrible decisions. :bag:

1999, my first year in FF...

1.04 Randall Cunningham

...Yeah.

And in 2002 I took Anthony Thomas 1.06 I do believe.

Best one ever was another guy in this league who took Ryan Longwell 3rd round a few years ago...especially funny since that ended up being Longwell's first bad year.

Christian Okoye with the ninth pick in 1992. It was my first year in fantasy football and, deservedly, the last year of the Nightmare's NFL career.

Worst pick ever? How ever could I possibly start to narrow that down.

Well, my worst draft by far has to be 1991, my second year. My first two picks weren't bad picks, but just didn't turn out all that well. First round was Randal Cunningham (19 yards passing, then done for the year) and 2nd was Christian Okoye, who was OK, but couldn't carry my team which was comprised of other notable running backs like Blair Thomas and Dexter Carter. Yes, I drafted Dexter Carter after making the newbie mistake of giving weight to preseason games. I saw him return a kick for a TD in a preseason game and was convinced he would be a stud for SF. And no I did not make up for it through trades, I ended up 5-9. or 4-10.

The next worst single draft pick was taking Yatil Green as a rookie AFTER he blew his knee out. That was the last draft I went to hungover.

not the worst ever since I did barely make the playoffs, but here are my top four picks in one league I was in last year:

1. Cpep

2. Deuce

3. Walker

4. Julius Jones

yeah, that season sucked...

2003 Keeper league, Chad Johnson still on the board and I need a WR in a bad way, guy that picks before me yells out proudly....

Travis Taylor.....

:lmao: :lmao:

He later picked Redmond Junior...(J.R. Redmond)

It's a tie for me...last year to Kevin Jones in rd 1 and the year before I took Barlow in rd 1. Granted, we each ahd 1 keeper, but those picks kill me.The worst pick all time in my league was someone took the Houston Oilers defense in the 1st round and that was BEFORE we had keepers...still a joke at every draft.
Lots of '04 Barlow mistakes so far. I did it too, and then took Moss in the 2nd. They both sucked, but CuMar and some other crafty mid-rounders led me to a 12-1 reg. season. Goes to show that you don't always have to have a great early draft. But it sure does make things easier.

1993 -- Took Lorenzo White way too early.

Other gaffes include Mike Pritchard in 1994, Troy Davis, Mark Brunell (where did the scrambling TDs go?), Curtis Enis, a hopeful pick that Terrell Davis would be able to come back...

I don't remember the year, but it was when Kurt Warner broke out for the Rams after Trent Green went down in preseason.

The league I was in had two halves of the season and redrafted all the teams after 8 games. One of my friends from work talked me into joining up at the halfway point after one of the teams dropped out. Neither of us had played fantasy football before......

We had the number 1 pick and we proudly took Warner with the #1 selection overall because 'QB's score the most points'. I can't even remember who else we ended up with, but I do remember that we were nowhere near contention.

It's not as bad of a pick as some of the others I've read, but it was my introduction to fantasy football. I didn't play again for a few years......

First year of FFB, 2000, I take Troy Aikman in the second round. He threw 5 incompletes, 1 INT, and then blew out his ankle for 3 games. Then he missed games on and off the rest of the year. So many valuable lessons learned with that one pick....
I used a second rounder on Aikman in 97, my first year in a local that I'm still in. I wasn't familiar with the drafting tendencies of my leaguemates and I was picking near the turn. I panicked when there was a mini run of the top QB's, and took Aikman. I was psyched when he threw 4 TD's in week 1, but he went on to have a very mediocre fantasy season and I went 4-10.I used a 2nd on Natrone Means the next year. There were other decent backs out there (I don't recall exactly which ones), but he proved to be a bust. Fortunately, I took Fred Taylor in the middle rounds and he saved my season once he took over the starting spot.

Last year was my first year playing FF. The first league I was in decided to draft via e-mail and started in like mid-July.

I was #3 overall and like many a newbie thought QB was the way to go in the 1st round. I hadn't looked at any fantasy football strategies or anything and had to wing it. I turned in my top 3 choices and sent in:

1. P Manning

2. T Green

3. M Bulger (OK I live in MO and couldn't think of anyone else)

Well, had I gotten Peyton, it wouldn't have been so bad, but the guy at #2 took him (LT went #1). So I got stuck with Trent Green at the #3 overall pick. :bag: I also took Joe Horn as my #1 WR :bag: :bag:

It was a miracle I didn't finish last.

(I did win my other 2 leagues, though)

Last year, without question - for all around ugly.

In the first 4 rounds:

J Jones (2000 yards??? mmm hmmmm  )

TO (suspened half the year)

DJax (knee still isn't quite right)

Still managed to scrape into the playoffs on a tie breaker by scouring the WW, but got pounded week 1...

Did get most of my $$ back though.

My first year I had the choice of taking Lawrence Phillips or Eddie George as rookies....I went with Phillips :(

One of the guys in my league took Rickey Williams in the first round literally hours bofore he announced his retirement in 2004. :X

Fred Taylor...hard to place the year as I've made this mistake on 4 separate occasions. :wall:

I draft RC at 1.01 in 1991.

Kordell Stewart the year after his 11rushing TD's

William Green after he was pimped to be the next big RB :wall:

Oh and last year the pick that cost me the playoffs. Took Barlow instead of taking a chance on a guy named Larry Johnson. My thought was that a starting RB is better to have than a guy that will more than likely only see mop up duty :wall:

1995 - I drafted rokkie and #1 pick Ki-Jana Carter with the 3rd overall pick in the fantasy draft. :bag:

He blew out his knee in the preseason game following my draft and was lost for the season.

I still won the season on the back of Steve Young, but have never drafted a rookie with my 1st pick, since.

My problem is that I'm a Penn State alum and am always tempted by the latest PSU running back.

So over the year's I've had Ki Jana Carter, Blair Thomas and Curtis Enis.

Which made last year all the sweeter when Larry Johnson led my team to the championship !

Now... Michael Robinson is looking good in 49er camp....

Tom M

This year Tony Gonzalez in the fourth round, ahead of Heap. The more I read about Gonzalez this year, with Roaf really retired, it looks like he's going to play more RT than TE.

Jim Harbaugh 2.01 in 1992 (After Taking Steve Youn 1.16)

Back to back QBs was bad enough. I had no clue what FF was, I was an emergency fill in for a friend of my brother's league. I ended up losing in the championship....I have been hooked ever since

My first year in fanatsy football, 95' I think, I took Bledsoe with the first overall pick, followed by Vincent Brisby in the second round.

My worst fanatsy pick ever, and I've had some bad ones was taking Scott Mitchell in the first round in 96'. He was coming of 32 td's in 95' and went on to throw as many int's as td's in 96'. 17/17

After back to back years taking QB's in the first round, I wouldn't take Peyton Manning if I had the last pick of the first round in a 20 team league.

All dynasty drafts, different leagues.

Peter Warrick #1 overall rookie year

James Jackson #5 overall rookie year

Charles Rogers #1 overall rookie year

Tim Couch #1 overall his rookie year

Akili Smith #11 overall his rookie year

I'm all set with the bad draft recap I have two this weekend.

Well, last year my draft featured (in a keep 2, no more than one per position)

2.11 pick - Javon Walker

3.02 pick - JJ Arrington

Fortunately, my keeper RB LaMont Jordan combined with 1.02 Shawn Alexander and astute waiver wire WR pickups overcame the debacle above and carried me to the title...

Year before was Barlow at 4.08 or so, so last year will be the last time I will ever take a flyer on the FBG "RB Special"

So far I think the 2002 Anthony Thomas / Kurt Warner is the winner. Seems to have been a very popular combo that year. One of the guys in our league took em at the turn and finished last.

For myself - taking Quincy Morgan over Chad Johnson a few years ago. Everybody immediately went "QUINCY MORGAN." The next guy immediately said Chad Johnson.

At least another six stories on this page alone of owners drafting horrendously...yet somehow pulling it out and making the playoffs or winning a championship.Gotta love FF message boards!
