What would you do? (1 Viewer)

I'm commish in one league where an owner submitted a lineup with two players that were on a bye. On his bench, he had players that he could have plugged in in there place, one of them being Big Ben.

If you're a commish and this happened in your league, what would you do. Would you take any punitive action, and if so, what?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'd send him an email reminding him that this is a competitive league and he needs to fill out his roster each week.

Then after the season he's DONESKI.

We have a $10 fine for each owner submitting an illegal lineup, including starting bye week players.

Write lineup requirements in your league rules, and you won't have to ask what to do after that.

We added rules for fines, to cover these situations. We made exceptions if they don't have suitable bench replacements. Can't really fine him if it isn't in your rules. Also, you can always boot him out of the league after the season is over. Another option is that anyone who commits this violation is automatically added to a post-season "retention vote" list. If you put that in the rules, then the commish doesn't have to be the bad guy at the end of the season, and the whole league can decide whether to retain the owner or dump him.

we had a similar owner in our league about 3 years ago. we sent him an email from the commissioners and said he has 1 more chance to set his lineup and handle injuries/bye weeks appropriately. He did ok for 1 week and then failed to handle bye week players again. we removed him as an owner and the team became "commissioner ran" for the remainder of the season. during the offseason we found a new owner. I do however like the $10 fee idea

Does your league have rules in place about lineups? If not, you leave it alone and have the league decide if you are adding those rules for NEXT seasonIf you already have rules then you enforce them

We don't have rules about lineups, but each year, we vote on rules changes, so I'm definitely going to suggest putting something in place to cover this situation.Based on what I hear you guys saying, I might just sent him (and cc the entire league) an email and tell him that if he does it again, he's out of the league next year. Do you guys think that would be a good approach?

This is what I did several years ago when we had a guy do this, he actually had won our league the first two years and about the 4th year his team sucked and he just stopped managing. Gave him a couple notices and the next year he wasn't invited back. A bunch of us had known him for years and he was one other owners neighbor and he never complained or #####ed about it.

I think part of the question is why did he do it?Is negligent or is he colluding with the owner who is his opponent this week? Is he trying to gain a better WW prioirity or draft pick? Was he trying to trade one of the bench players who could have started this week?Obviously if collusion is suspected, he should punished severly (I'll let you decide what that means) - but negligence and stupidity, while frustrating are certainly not grounds for kicking him out - although if it is a competitive league, a fine certainly would be appopriate. But I'd just thank him for his annual donation to the prize pool for the rest of us that field full rosters.

My league has a 50 dollar fine for an invalid lineup in the rules. It is wise to always have a valid lineup ready barring any emergency situations that may come up (death in the family, things like that.)

Two weeks ago, I failed to submit a full lineup simply because I ran out of time due to work. I traveled all week and was busy playing catch up with work at home. Either way, I still beat the guy with two byes.

So there are sometimes things where people just can't get to a computer.

great story.

If it were done intentionally by a bad team in an effort to submarine the year and get a higher draft pick (ie in keeper or dynasty), then I think its a problem. However, if its done by an owner that was negligent in their management for one week, i dont see a problem. One of my leagues the highest scoring team in week 5 (and division leader in a different division from me) started two players on byes and had players on the bench that could have played.

I don't do anything. it's a redraft and if they forget, couldn't whatever they get the loss, especiialy this early in the season.

If it becomes a habit - I'd say something. Haven't really had an issue but we've all known each other since we were kids and everyone "plays right".

At MFL they have an option that allows you to pre-set your line-up for any week/s you want, whenever you want.

if its a one time thing......these things happen. i started my team this week without a QB because I was too busy and didnt realize, ended up winning but was still pissed. Have a hefty progressive penalty for the bottom 3 teams and you won't have fools losing on purpose.

Another note - ESPN has a position called Head Coach that one of my leagues decided to put in for this season. I have seen countless teams not add drop a HC and leave the bye week in, which gains them a zero. HC is dicey because a team loss gets you negative points. In this situation, I dont see a problem with not finding a bye week filler if you are ok with a zero over playing the odds on a win or loss by an NFL team.
