Whatcha readin now? (book, books, reading, read) (5 Viewers)

Next up: The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester. I had this on my to be read list after reading the description from @Barry2 (it was #5 on his list)
Written in the mid 50s, I'd never heard of this book or author. Nice intro by Neil Gaman (pre-cancellation, obs). It has some interesting concepts (I liked the ruling corporate families being drawn from household names of the times like Westinghouse, Saks).

Now, time to finish the Three-Body Problem trilogy.

It's November so I read November Road by Lou Berney. It's a crime story set in the aftermath of the JFK assassination involving a mob fixer who knows too much and has to go on the run. Since he's well known in the underworld, he disguises his flight by joining a woman with two young daughters who has walked out on her loveless marriage. The plot plays out methodically with chapters alternating the POV between the fixer, the wife and the hitman pursuing them. It wasn't great or anything but it kept me turning the pages.

I am currently on a run of reading several music bios/memoirs. In the last couple months I have read about Thin Lizzy, Dave Mustaine, Steely Dan, Soundgarden, and I am currently on Prince. In the pile I have: Kim Gordan, Doobie Brothers, Chuck Berry, Little Feat, and others.

Mixed in are a few books about film directors and then some books that were made into movies. Bios about Kubrick and Bergman mixed with the books of stuff like The Running Man, To Kill A Mockingbird, 2001, The Chocolate War, and The Sweet Hereafter. I am going to do a few more books that Kubrick made into movies and a few others next. I am mostly keeping these to books 200pgs and under.

I will say, I do like the variety of the music bios. The ones about Steely Dan and Soundgarden had a big focus on individual songs and told the story of the bands that way. The others a more traditional birth to current time way of telling about the artist. All of them have been enjoyable and made me appreciate the music more or at least think of their music in a different way.
