What's going on with these WR's? (1 Viewer)

MSW- He has two weeks without a catch and one outstanding week with 10 catches. Is he ever going to be a consistent WR? Is it Garrard not looking his way???

Colston/Jennings- The Spread offenses that they are in is limiting their targets and FF production.

Steve Smith(North)- Production has dropped off. Why?

Ocho Cinco- One great week and 3 poor to average weeks. While TO gets huge #'s.

Crabtree- He has been flat out non-startable

Meachem- Where did that productive guy go from last season?

Bowe- Didn't the SP have a thread on how Bowe was going to break out? So far he has had 5 targets in each game...

Hoping to get some discussion on these underachieving WR's.

His slide already started at the end of last season...maybe he's not that good

Giants: Average talent and Nicks is way betterPanthers: no QB
Crabtree- He has been flat out non-startable
Alex Smith
Meachem- Where did that productive guy go from last season?

Pretty much every single one of these can be summed up by one of two answers:QB SUUUUCKS!Too much talent around him--competition for the ball/too many mouths to feed.Apply as you wish.

2009 weeks 9-16

Very productive
AND in that season (2009) Meachem had 10 TDs, BTW. Snort at them all you want but that's "productive", sorry. The guy is streaky but it's like he fell off a cliff. The OP was justified in listing Meachem as a WTF. In his case, it's the spread offense; Brees is not lighting it up with deep balls right now; Meachem was hurt for a while in camp and missed chemistry time with Brees. To their credit FBGs was down on Meachem all preseason in their rankings.I'm going to add that MSW just stinks. Garrard is bad; MSW STINKS.

ideas on bowe?
After a pretty nice start to his career Bowe is at risk of looking like yet another LSU tease. I think he still has a shot but I wouldn't be willing to count on him as more than a 3 right now or if complete devoid of roster talent at WR maybe a low, low 2 with room to grow. Bowe seems like a bit of a chuckle head but I don't know that for certain. It's entirely possible he's brighter than I'm willing to give him credit for but it sure seems like the KC staff that inherited him would love for someone else to be the guy. I like McCluster who they hand-picked but admit his size prevents from being a #1 type. It's possible KC has yet to add their true #1 but McCluster has an opportunity to be their darling until that void is filled OR Bowe steps up and grabs the brass ring.

For Steve Smith (NYG), the team hasn't been able to sustain drives due to foolish penalties, tipped balls and turnovers. The line hasn't been playing very well with the starting center playing hurt and out all 4 games. I think the team will lean on Bradshaw, since he's running well. If he learns to protect the ball better then Smith should get more chances.

I'm just calling these as I see 'em (IMO)... no stats involved... just an observation;

MSW- Not an elite WR... has had good games against weak DB's, but seems to get shut down rather predictably.

Colston/Jennings- Both are in offenses that spread it around too much to produce reliable numbers week in and week out. Both are WR3 caliper - leave 'em in the line-up and wait for that big game every 4-5 weeks (with lots of 4-5-6's in between).

Steve Smith(North)- Hakim Nicks is emerging as Eli's "throw to" guy... frankly I don't know why Eli doesn't heave it up to Nicks more often than he does.

Ocho Cinco- Similar to MSW, but does a much better job of marketing himself... feast or famine.

Crabtree- Still a pup... didn't see a lot out of him or the 49ers last season that would lead me to believe he should have a big 2010.

Meachem- Same problem as Colston.

Bowe- To me, the most puzzling of the group? He seems to get less consistent/productive every year... maybe a work ethic issue?

It's funny how people have good answers for all, but seem most confused about Bowe. Um, being a WR, it helps if you can catch.

Bowe used to drop passes pretty regularly at LSU. Prior to his last year, he had laser eye surgery, and all of a sudden caught everything in sight. I don't think he dropped a pass that whole season. So everybody just assumed that had been the problem all along. His first couple of years in the NFL seemed pretty good from what I know.I don't know exactly why but the bust ratio is through the roof with LSU players. My guess is plain old laziness.....a lot of those kids come from nothing and bust their butt to get to the NFL, but just getting there is such a triumph they get comfortable and lose their edge. That's just a thought.
