Whats going to happen in Cleveland (1 Viewer)

Does this mean that Leon Williams whom many of us were hoping would get a crack - just might be a starter? Will DQJax continue to keep up his fantasy stats. Does Cleveland have the talent to field the 4 linebackers without drafting or signing a free agent?

I think a lot will depend on who they draft @ 1.05. If it's Curry (probably gone by then) or a rushing OLB/DE Type (like Brown from FSU)?

Pretty much nothing, he lost his starting ILB job for the passed 2 seasons. Leon Williams and Dqwell Jackson have been starting. The only problem with Leon Williams is he gets nothing but tackles IDP wise, same with Dqwell. Dqwell also performed very well last year for me but I heard talks that their not really happy with him in run support because the fact that he is undersized.

Davis, when healthy, "started" and played in the base defense over Williams in each of the last two seasons. Essentially, it was a platoon situation. There's potentially an every-down job for the taking here, especially since the Browns aren't flush with secondary talent right now. Williams was falling out of favor with the previous coaching staff and front office, and it's possible that opinion hasn't/won't carry over to the new talent evaluators. Beau Bell, if he can stay healthy and looks good in OTAs, may be able to seize at least the base defensive SILB snaps. And it's pretty likely the Browns will find a cheap vet in free agency or target linebackers (inside and outside) early in the draft. Should be a wide open competition next to Jackson this summer.

I don't think that Williams was a 3 down backer though. Seems some of the games I saw - he wasn't on the field alot. I guess I was assuming he wasn't the starter. With the points the DQ was putting up he must have been on the field for all downs.

What's going to happen in Denver?
Williams at WILB, Davis at SILB. Reasonable chance that, if Mike Nolan wants two ILBs in a subpackage, Wes Woodyard could be Denver's Leon Williams to Davis. Nolan used a lot of dime packages over the past two seasons, though, so there may be only one every-down ILB this season. We'll see how that one plays out late this summer probably.

He might get a crack but you have Bell who might be ready to make a push this season.I think Cleveland is looking hard at OLB's this offseason. McGinest was a fixture at the end opposite Wimbley and he only recorded maybe 3 or 4 sacks last year. Alex Hall started two games early in the season in relief of Willie but wasn't pushing the old man for the starting position as the season wore on so I'd say they're looking for an upgrade there in a serious way. I like Willie but he was not good last season. In 2007 it looks like Williams started one game at LOLB with A.Peek starting at the MLB spot. I don't see Williams as OLB material so that may be a typo in the gamebook.

Williams had something like 5 starts over Davis in '07 while Davis had like 7 starts over Williams. In '08, Williams had no starts and Davis had 16. Look at the tackle numbers from '08 and it isn't even close. Whatever window Williams had in '07 closed in '08. New regime, who knows? I wouldn't bet on Williams though. It's worth keeping an eye out for through the offseason and camps if he's a free agent in your league, but I wouldn't invest alot of time in doing that.
