It's a more difficult argument to make after Jones started this season playing better than he has in years, but I'm still of the opinion that Jones is a 30 year old replacement level talent who hasn't played a full season as an every-down MLB or SLB since 2005. He was essentially out of the league last season before the Bengals grabbed him in a desperation move after the entire LB corps was injured.
I don't see anything in the tackle opportunity numbers or surrounding cast that provides a clear reason for his drop. The DTs have been playing and tackling better but not well enough to fully explain the drop.
I'd be concerned that Jones has lost a step that he can't afford to lose after eight full games of above-average opportunity. Part of that is likely due to whatever foot injury has had him off and on the injury list. Part of it is probably due to his age and overall talent level.
Longshot, but it might be time to watch for news about Abdul Hodge, who's been playing reasonably well on special teams and seen some time in goal line packages. If Darryl Blackstock doesn't get back into the rotation after coming off suspension, Hodge might get a look by default.
